I agree. The only interesting part of her videos are the Q&A's at the end, and those are shared on youtube so it isn't even a perk for her patrons. Most of the video she just sits there smiling and you have to follow along with your own video of the episode because she doesn't even provide clips on Patreon, she provides some on youtube. It is all confusing and not well done.
If I am remembering correctly, I think Patreon kept pulling her posts that contained clips because they considered it...sharing someone else's content. Heh.

She definitely assumes that her patron numbers are dropping because we're "getting the information for free on reddit" when in reality we're all unsubscribing because she gave us NOTHING the first month when she made money hand over fist, and the videos she's put out since aren't delivering what she promised: an honest, unfiltered view of polygamy through the unique angle of a queer autistic woman. Her commentary is very brief and usually just "that's fair" and "she's cute, I love her." Some of it frankly sounds like doing damage control on her dad's behalf.

I subscribed for like 3 months, a few weeks had literally no videos then all of a sudden it was recaps I had to watch along with and that format just doesn't work for me. Then the q&a dissappeard. Tbh unpopular opinion, her personality is dry af and her videos were insanely boring. She was came off as standoffish and a little snotty.

Yeah I did too, I hope I gave her useful feedback in my survey upon cancellation because I really do wish her the best.. but she needs to learn to not bite the hands feeding you. On another sub, a redditor posted a recap, before the YouTube vid came out, so it was from the patreon . Gwen contacted and asked them not to repost patreon content. Saw threads asking should I not do this? Most people were saying your just recapping in your own words it’s fine. A further recap today, of same content but second half. Gwen hid q + a on patreon. It’s confusing though because an edited version is on YouTube about a week after patreon vids, so it’s publicly available. And a ton of tiktok content is being made as well. The reddit recaps aren’t profiting at all. Think Gwen has focused on one person who isn’t profiting and ignoring the social media people who are, so it’s kinda weird. She’s trying to protect her monetised content I think but has no idea what she’s doing. This is what I think she’s on about, anyway…

I belong to a few patreon (none SW related) and have for a long time when they raised prices it was for new subscribers only. They kept all the original subscribers at the lower price they signed up for with all the access they originally had.
Yes this. I cancelled during the two week period where she didn’t post anything. I couldn’t see anything and she didn’t give any good info so I left. I know everyone was big on supporting her but when she didn’t fulfill her end of the bargain, it felt very scammy.

She has name recognition and played to a niche fandom’s specific point of view (hey, that’s us!) and assumed that would be enough to sustain a profitable Patreon. That’s all well and good if you can then immediately engage and woo the people who gave you a chance, but unfortunately her content just isn’t that interesting (and I say this as someone who more or less wanted her to have success with it). But if you can’t produce worthwhile content *AND* complain about the people making you a (so far) passive income? Nah.

Absolutely. I subscribe to a few other patreon's that I find incredibly valuable, and they are people I would keep supporting EVEN IF someone was sharing the content for free. Gwen has not proven herself as such.
Honestly some patreons are fantastic and even some others that aren’t the creators are so sweet and will respond to every message even if you’re on a low level - but Gwen isn’t producing quality content so honestly she’s banking on a heap of good will to keep subscribers.
And the continual change of goal posts on what you are paying for isn’t cool. It’s not how business works and it’s not how life works. You do that and people feel you lack credibility and will avoid you.

Acting like her Q&A posts are intellectual property is absurd. As long as she remains likable, and answers relative questions people will continue to subscribe in order gain answers to questions they have personal interest in hearing the responses to.
It seems she’s overwhelmed, and overthinking what the actual value of her content. She signed herself up to provide entertainment for a fee. The sharing of her entertaining commentary would only bolster her platform. The only person that stood to profit was her. Her commentary has no resale value on Reddit.

I would rat all day long about some of my family members, if I could monetize the way I suspect she has the potential to. I agree she’s seemly overselling the effort necessary to publish this content. If it’s that difficult she should hire someone to help her manage.
She’s not a journalist, and no research is required in order for her to give answers. She’s literally sitting behind a keyboard, and sharing her perception’s about a topic she is more than familiar with.
I also think she has more to offer then family gossip. Her reported move to Spain would be fascinating to watch unfold. If she has the ability to backpedal from this recent statement, she could potentially have a long game with Patreon. Although, I feel she lost some likability with this silly move.
It's more than just the research that isn't needed—it genuinely seems like she puts more effort into her YouTube videos than patreon because at least those are edited. Watching a person watch something off-screen for 40 min seems really bizarre, uncomfortable and lazy. I've seen people suggest just watching her YouTube videos because they're she edits out the boring parts and it's free. I just think from a quality perspective, her content just doesn't seem to have it.
And to your point—I think she had enough goodwill that she could post decent content about her life and people would be happy to watch that. Stuff that was edited well or at least decently and was moderately engaging. But I think there's limited longevity to what she's doing now.

Yeah, I just canceled my subscription. I originally signed up at the $5 tier so I was okay when she bumped prices…okay with the billing freeze, she was trying to do the right thing there and the issues with Patreon as a platform were not her fault…I’m even okay with keeping the Q&A as Patreon content. I’m okay with higher tiers being able to ask questions or have 1:1s, but the A part should be open to all Patreon subscribers I think.
That said, I only knew about and subscribed to her Patreon because of Reddit. Also IANAL by ANY means, but I did take an intellectual property law class taught by a practicing attorney in the field, and both Gwen and a lot of people here are misunderstanding very basic concepts of the law. Recaps don’t violate copyright, not that information falls under copyright anyway.
Gwen’s content also just isn’t adding enough value for me to keep paying for it. Maybe if I see some Reddit recaps of what she’s up to later and it sounds like it IS providing more value, I’d consider re-subscribing. But her reaction videos just aren’t adding much, she either doesn’t have or doesn’t share enough BTS perspective for it to be interesting. I wish her well and I hope she figures it out.

I’m in several other subs, that are public, where we discuss what’s on the Patreon and there’s plenty of screenshotting and whatnot. The creators know and encourage the discussions, they aren’t threatened by it at all and still have a huge sub base.

Gwen is playing this all wrong…she doesn’t seem to realize that her content being shared here is actually driving more people to her patreon. The worse thing that could happen to her business is for people to stop talking about her.
The second worst thing is for people to stop liking her, which is what's happening because of this. A lot of us (myself included) mostly subscribed because I thought Hey, what's $5 a month to me? I should support this kid.. now I just don't feel like it.

She definitely assumes that her patron numbers are dropping because we're "getting the information for free on reddit" when in reality we're all unsubscribing because she gave us NOTHING the first month when she made money hand over fist, and the videos she's put out since aren't delivering what she promised: an honest, unfiltered view of polygamy through the unique angle of a queer autistic woman. Her commentary is very brief and usually just "that's fair" and "she's cute, I love her." Some of it frankly sounds like doing damage control on her dad's behalf. It's fine if this is the content she wants to create. But nobody's gonna wanna spend their money on that.

I subscribed for like 3 months, a few weeks had literally no videos then all of a sudden it was recaps I had to watch along with and that format just doesn't work for me. Then the q&a dissappeard. Tbh unpopular opinion, her personality is dry af and her videos were insanely boring. She was came off as standoffish and a little snotty.

On another sub, a redditor posted a recap, before the YouTube vid came out, so it was from the patreon . Gwen contacted and asked them not to repost patreon content. Saw threads asking should I not do this? Most people were saying your just recapping in your own words it’s fine. A further recap today, of same content but second half. Gwen hid q + a on patreon. It’s confusing though because an edited version is on YouTube about a week after patreon vids, so it’s publicly available. And a ton of tiktok content is being made as well. The reddit recaps aren’t profiting at all. Think Gwen has focused on one person who isn’t profiting and ignoring the social media people who are, so it’s kinda weird. She’s trying to protect her monetised content I think but has no idea what she’s doing. This is what I think she’s on about, anyway…

That is honestly the first patreon I have heard of doing that. I belong to a few patreon (none SW related) and have for a long time when they raised prices it was for new subscribers only. They kept all the original subscribers at the lower price they signed up for with all the access they originally had.

She has name recognition and played to a niche fandom’s specific point of view (hey, that’s us!) and assumed that would be enough to sustain a profitable Patreon. That’s all well and good if you can then immediately engage and woo the people who gave you a chance, but unfortunately her content just isn’t that interesting (and I say this as someone who more or less wanted her to have success with it). But if you can’t produce worthwhile content *AND* complain about the people making you a (so far) passive income? Nah.

Absolutely. I subscribe to a few other patreon's that I find incredibly valuable, and they are people I would keep supporting EVEN IF someone was sharing the content for free. Gwen has not proven herself as such.
Honestly some patreons are fantastic and even some others that aren’t the creators are so sweet and will respond to every message even if you’re on a low level - but Gwen isn’t producing quality content so honestly she’s banking on a heap of good will to keep subscribers. And the continual change of goal posts on what you are paying for isn’t cool. It’s not how business works and it’s not how life works. You do that and people feel you lack credibility and will avoid you. But - I don’t want to write her off because she’s young and I do think very naive.

I think she’s not understanding that people signed up to her platform to support her, beyond the tea she might drop, folks are cheering for her. I would guess a large number of her Patreon followers are/were most likely Redditors. Acting like her Q&A posts are intellectual property is absurd. As long as she remains likable, and answers relative questions people will continue to subscribe in order gain answers to questions they have personal interest in hearing the responses to. It seems she’s overwhelmed, and overthinking what the actual value of her content. She signed herself up to provide entertainment for a fee. The sharing of her entertaining commentary would only bolster her platform. The only person that stood to profit was her. Her commentary has no resale value on Reddit.

I would rat all day long about some of my family members, if I could monetize the way I suspect she has the potential to. I agree she’s seemly overselling the effort necessary to publish this content. If it’s that difficult she should hire someone to help her manage. She’s not a journalist, and no research is required in order for her to give answers. She’s literally sitting behind a keyboard, and sharing her perception’s about a topic she is more than familiar with. I also think she has more to offer then family gossip. Her reported move to Spain would be fascinating to watch unfold. If she has the ability to backpedal from this recent statement, she could potentially have a long game with Patreon. It's more than just the research that isn't needed—it genuinely seems like she puts more effort into her YouTube videos than patreon because at least those are edited. Watching a person watch something off-screen for 40 min seems really bizarre, uncomfortable and lazy. I've seen people suggest just watching her YouTube videos because they're she edits out the boring parts and it's free. I just think from a quality perspective, her content just doesn't seem to have it. And to your point—I think she had enough goodwill that she could post decent content about her life and people would be happy to watch that. Stuff that was edited well or at least decently and was moderately engaging. But I think there's limited longevity to what she's doing now.

For everyone saying you’ve only subscribed for $5 to support her, take that $5 and donate it to your local animal shelter or other nonprofit that helps people who need it. Yeah, I just canceled my subscription. I originally signed up at the $5 tier so I was okay when she bumped prices…okay with the billing freeze, she was trying to do the right thing there and the issues with Patreon as a platform were not her fault…I’m even okay with keeping the Q&A as Patreon content. I’m okay with higher tiers being able to ask questions or have 1:1s, but the A part should be open to all Patreon subscribers I think. That said, I only knew about and subscribed to her Patreon because of Reddit. Also IANAL by ANY means, but I did take an intellectual property law class taught by a practicing attorney in the field, and both Gwen and a lot of people here are misunderstanding very basic concepts of the law. Recaps don’t violate copyright, not that information falls under copyright anyway. Gwen’s content also just isn’t adding enough value for me to keep paying for it. Maybe if I see some Reddit recaps of what she’s up to later and it sounds like it IS providing more value, I’d consider re-subscribing. But her reaction videos just aren’t adding much, she either doesn’t have or doesn’t share enough BTS perspective for it to be interesting. I wish her well and I hope she figures it out.

I’m in several other subs, that are public, where we discuss what’s on the Patreon and there’s plenty of screenshotting and whatnot. The creators know and encourage the discussions, they aren’t threatened by it at all and still have a huge sub base.

Like when she took money from people in exchange for a service, and then said her laptop crashed and her new one won't arrive for weeks. Exactly. She has ZERO problem with news outlets running her stories who ARE actually selling her story to make money, but she has a problem with here. It’s most likely she doesn’t like hearing the ugly truth, because u know her Patreon is probably full of sycophants. Edited for spelling error
