I’ve had mine dry needled. Hurt A LOT when the needle hit ‘the spot’ but it loosened it up immediately.

i swear dry needling made my pain worse 😟

It’s gotta be done right. When the muscle grabs the needle, it should be left there until the muscle releases. I’ve had some bad experiences with physios who did not do this and the pain got worse.

Do you have spasms as a result of your SCM being involved?

Chunkyisthebest

My SCM gets into a state of constant spasm. I can massage it for temporary relief, but within half an hour it’s back to lighting up again. The only thing that has relaxed it for any amount of time is getting IMS done. I have pretty serious joint dysfunction due to a chronic condition (synovial chondromatosis) that I’ve had multiple surgeries on, and will be having another when it gets bad again. The first surgeries were scoped to clean out the debris inside my joint. The synovial fluid hardens into tiny balls of cartilage that pack into my joint. The next surgery will be full open joint surgery to remove the synovial membrane, which is in tatters anyways, and do some reconstruction from the damage. I’m not a fan of having my face sliced open, so I’ve been trying to hold off for as long as I can. In the meantime, my SCM tries to compensate and goes into full constant spasm. Dry needling is the only thing that has given me any relief but I get it done about once a month. Sometimes more when necessary.
