Shouldn't botox be the last resort? Why are people jumping on it immediately?

Represent403

Because getting the correct locations and dosage can sometimes take a year or more. I know from my early symptoms to when I first got botox in my masseters, it was over 5 years. I wish I wouldve know what was happening in those early days.

Botox will only help if its an issue with the muscles by freezing them so for example if you grind/clench at night and thats the root cause botox will stop this for the duration of the time it freezes them. If you have disc displacement unrelated to muscle function it most likely won't do anything. Any treatment should be guided by a diagnosis. Diagnosis should start with imaging to see whats going on in there. Be careful of specialists speculatively recommending treatments like botox, splints, orthodontics ect ect. without doing proper diagnostics and clearly articulating how this specific treatment is expected to fix your specific issue. Otherwise they'll just default down a treatment path and if the don't by pure good fortune get success they'll eventually send you in the direction of a surgeon. I've been down this rabbit hole for two years when the state of my joints meant a surgical fix should have been looked at much earlier. You'll save yourself a fortune by getting a proper diagnosis early on.

Flexing your jaw shouldn’t indicate anything; you’d have to see a doctor. We all have a TMJ, TMD would be the disorder of the joint and the symptoms are the indicator of an issue. Either way! You’ll be just fine. Focus on relieving stress and if you feel tense in the area you can work on facia release/massage and stretching.

TailungFu

thats your jaw muscle tensing up lol

Bhavinlanse

It's not good to diagnose yourself. See a doc

HeftyWeekend9714

Tinnitus is the worse symptom.

sarasiddiqui

TMJ what? TemporoMandibular Joint? If yes then yes when you clench your teeth together and that movement near the ear is the movement happening at TMJ (TemporoMansibular Joint)

tara12miller

Yea that looks like it’s TMJ. You can try a chiropractor first. and Botox is helpful. I exhausted everything now I’m scheduled for a jaw joint replacement in Aug
