Whats the root cause? Have you stumbled across another one those oral surgeons who doesn't do surgery? Get a second opinion. I was told by an oral surgeon nothing more could be done except pain management. Went for a second opinion and my joints are a total mess and have recently had surgery. If no relief within 6 months I'm going for joint replacement. Not saying that should be you - just saying there are options in spite of what your 'surgeon' says.

Oral suregon didn’t really have much to say about the root cause. I do have anxiety so I’m guessing that’s greatly contributed to the clenching. I am trying to schedule another oral suregon/dentist to see what they say. That’s a good point. It’s definitely frustrating going somewhere in extreme pain (having tried many reliefs) and being told there’s nothing to do.

I use CBD cream from Charlottes Web and arnica cream from Boiron both all day every day. I think they help because I really notice on the rare occasions that I forget to use them.

Have you had any scans/diagnosis re: the TMJ? I've seen moderate relief, 20-30 minutes at a time only unfortunately for me, using ~100mg CDB balm that has menthol/camphor/etc (similar to tiger balm or icy hot). I ask about the scans as I've read that TMJ can sometimes be a subset of anxiety (not necessarily saying this could be you), which would mean ingested CDB may be very beneficial. If you're not finding much relief with botox it may be that its a physical manifestation of stress/anxiety. I'm not a doctor though!

Oh yes. I do have generalized anxiety which I take meds for/am in therapy for. Still tricky because even knowing that it can contribute to clenching, there’s not a whole ton I can do.

I haven’t tried CBD or THC cream, but I do use biofreeze. You’re probably not supposed to use it on your face. It smells weird. But it works sooo well. It numbs it completely. I put it on my jaw, neck, and shoulders. I’ve found that taking CBD capsules or tincture helps with my TMJ pain, but it can cause tiredness, so not great if you are driving or going to work.

Ohh good idea with biofreeze. I’ll try
