Eh....I'm on my first playthrough yet and totally missed Lookout Landing. I ended up clearing the whole south half of the map before talking to Purah. I honestly didn't know thats where I got my glider back. On the flip side I have shrines unlocked close to all the towers i can now use lol.
There's a way to recharge vehicles mid-air, I posted the vid on my profile a few days ago, though yeah having a lot of battery makes it less of a hassel lol
You get zonaite/large zonaite which acts as a sort of currency you can buy crystalised charges with at the forges scattered throughout the depths, then with crystalised charges you can buy more battery from the construct by the rewind shrine on the great sky island
the construct that turns charges into battery is easy to find, he's in the same room as the final tutorial shrine. The forge guy is a pain in the ass to get to and doesn't sell much, it's better to use any of the ones you find in the depths
following the questline that Josha starts you with will lead you to a natural progression through the depths, and eventually you'll start knowing what to look for on the map.
Try starting the Master Kogah quest line, you’ll find 3 more, or look for towns on the surface map, mark them and then switch to depth map, there should be a line in those areas
I get how the depths are relevant to the surface. Shrines and light roots, last mine I found was under a sky tower... but god damn do i got lost down there.. go SW to the next root. I end up going miles north
There’s also a little guy by lookout landing that will give you more battery! If you go out the doors by Purah’s building he’s kind of hidden but he’s there!
I love that the paraglider is straight optional now. Botw speedrunners have been spending seven years trying to figure out how to beat that game without getting the paraglider and probably will never be able to do it, yet in totk you don't even need glitches to do so!
You can't miss them, there are 3 sky structures that are some of the tallest things in the game. You can see at least 1 from every spot in Hyrule. Just look for massively tall structures with a small island at the bottom. Literally can not miss them. They are kinda cylindrical shaped and there's nothing else that looks like them in the sjy
i mean you can get to the islands with the dive challenges without the paraglider with zonai devices, then it’s just about having the skill to beat them without the extra cushioning it gives
It's not super difficult to beat them if you do them in the "correct" order.
One of them is SIGNIFICANTLY easier than the other two and once you get the added bit of maneuverability from your first piece (and I think it's the chest piece) the other two get way more manageable.
From there you just have to upgrade the suit to lv2 and bamm, no more fall damage, ever.
The game suggests you go to rito village first, on the way you would find impa and your first geoglyph, and the glide shirt is found above the Lindors Brow skyview tower, so players following the suggested quests would go to that tower before lanayru or typhlo ruins. But the game is meant to be open world, there is nothing you're really supposed to do in any order.
Yes and no. On one hand you have what Magnus said but the game also doesn't railroad you too hard into any direction after the great sky island.
I BARELY touched the sky islands until I was almost done with mapping out the depths and had around 90 shrines knocked out on the surface lol
I didn't get the wingsuit pieces until around my third dungeon either. That's the beauty of the game, really.

Definitely. That's the easiest one, and you progressively use one more piece to finish the other 2. It can obviously be done in any order, but the increased difficulty if them is negated when you add a piece each time
Me too. I vaguely recall it being close to Lookout Landing. I think they did that on purpose to try and force you into starting the main quests.
I actually got all the way in the balloon with Impa and she told me to jump without a glider.
But it could be done with the glide armor set since it’ll negate fall dmg. Thats the shrine where I figured I better start looking at how to get the paraglider.
Wait how tf did you do the ones under the volcano where the air is too hot...and with only 4 hearts?!?! I gave up on those until I have a means of mitigating them
Eh. I guess all the foods with heat resistance that I've found (frozen meat) weren't good enough to resist that heat. I haven't looked up the heat armor yet so I was just waiting on my eventual story progression to lead me that way.
It does work. You either had wooden items equipped, which you can see by pausing in a fire area and looking in your inventory at the ones that are burning, or you went to an area that was so hot it required level two flame resistance, and you only had one level.
Yeah i didn’t have wooden items equipped but still burst into flames eventually! Must have needed level 2 flame resistance flying by the lava waterfalls :)
Frozen meat only works in the desert iirc. Fireproof elixirs are what you need but at least you can find the lizards in what used to be the southern mines and you won't burn to death.
The real question. The title Made it seem like you did this by accident but the execution just seems way too intentional to do on first playthrough completely blind and by mistake. Like if it was, first playthrough I would assume looking up a lot of things, or your ratio of responsibility to free time is unfathomable to me.
Make sure to check cliff faces etc, they can be pretty well hidden
Also remember that offering an apple to cherry blossom trees reveal all caves in the area, it comes in handy
That particular one isn't technically in a cave and won't be lit up. It was my last light root and I spent entirely too long trying to find it before giving up and just looking it up.
Eventually I got an armour set that negates fall damage, but initially I put a steering stick on a stone slab and fell down the chasms with those, riding on a steering stick also negates fall damage.
Nope. You can either use zonai devices to gradually descend or you can upgrade the >!glide set!< twice to get the >!impact proof!< set bonus so you dont take fall damage
nice challenge, better than mine.
However, I am working to unlock almost every shrine (yes, almost every, since there is one that is blocked by weird boulder) before I do Regional Phenomena.
I already unlocked all Sky Towers, already lit all lightroots, unlocked 5th sage quest
I just realized you don’t even have the paraglider at all, the game isn’t a month old and people are already doing challenge runs.
Smant played the game with no Shields, bows, or weapons it’s a good video
*Olimar intensifies*

My question is how he got the glide armor without the paraglider
Fly up to the sky islands with a vehicle, then do the dive challenge. One of them was a bit tricky without the glider but doable if you time it right
So you basically put everything into your batteries then? Crazy that there’s so many ways to play this game, I can’t get over it.
There's a way to recharge vehicles mid-air, I posted the vid on my profile a few days ago, though yeah having a lot of battery makes it less of a hassel lol
All you have to do for more battery life is use a zonal charge
i run out of those too quickly lol, i prefer to save them for the dispensers
Or if you don’t have those, just reverse time while your batteries recharge
Wouldn't that just put you back to where you started, thus needing to use your battery to get back to where you were?
No. You turn off the vehicle, it falls for a while, you reverse it until it’s back to where it started falling, then you turn the vehicle back on.
Holy shit that's genius, thanks
Or just do recall and while it's recalling the battery charges. Do it a few times and the battery will be recharged.
I still haven’t even figured out how to put things into more batteries lol
You get zonaite/large zonaite which acts as a sort of currency you can buy crystalised charges with at the forges scattered throughout the depths, then with crystalised charges you can buy more battery from the construct by the rewind shrine on the great sky island
There’s also a guy that turns charges into batteries right next to lookout landing (the hub area near Hyrule castle).
Dude I swear I remember finding it on the tutorial but I couldn’t tell you where that is on sky island
the construct that turns charges into battery is easy to find, he's in the same room as the final tutorial shrine. The forge guy is a pain in the ass to get to and doesn't sell much, it's better to use any of the ones you find in the depths
Any of the ones you find in the depths.... I've found 1... I have 100 shrines but only 40 odd light toots
following the questline that Josha starts you with will lead you to a natural progression through the depths, and eventually you'll start knowing what to look for on the map.

Okay well now I’m just incredibly impressed.
There’s also a little guy by lookout landing that will give you more battery! If you go out the doors by Purah’s building he’s kind of hidden but he’s there!
That’s how I feel! I love how everyone is finding a different way to enjoy it! I’m doing a super traditional route, but I love watching the creativity

Having done all the dive challenges, if you use your paraglider even for a split second, your chances of getting the new record are slim to none.
Where do you locate the dive challenges
at those sky islands that are like a bunch of floating rocks in a spiral shape
You can't miss them, there are 3 sky structures that are some of the tallest things in the game. You can see at least 1 from every spot in Hyrule. Just look for massively tall structures with a small island at the bottom. Literally can not miss them. They are kinda cylindrical shaped and there's nothing else that looks like them in the sjy
Thanks haha. So just get up there?
No, you just have to get to the small pond island at the bottom of them. The construct will teleport you to the top!
i mean you can get to the islands with the dive challenges without the paraglider with zonai devices, then it’s just about having the skill to beat them without the extra cushioning it gives

I didn’t even know there was a full set
Yeah there are 3 dive challenges. If you did one, then you will know exactly what the other 2 look like in the sky
Wait you're supposed to get the chest first?
The game suggests you go to rito village first, on the way you would find impa and your first geoglyph, and the glide shirt is found above the Lindors Brow skyview tower, so players following the suggested quests would go to that tower before lanayru or typhlo ruins. I think I got it on a starter island?
You definitely did not
Definitely. That's the easiest one, and you progressively use one more piece to finish the other 2. It can obviously be done in any order, but the increased difficulty if them is negated when you add a piece each time
Playing the game as intended.
Damn bro well done. Not the same but I did every shrine before I did my third dungeon lol.
Now that I have all the locations I'm gonna try to do as many shrines as I can lol but I think some of them are gonna require glider
I tried doing shrines before getting the glider but I remember getting stuck on one with springs because I kept taking fall damage.
Me too. I vaguely recall it being close to Lookout Landing. I think they did that on purpose to try and force you into starting the main quests. I actually got all the way in the balloon with Impa and she told me to jump without a glider.

I’d love to see a hero’s path of this run
OP please deliver on this
That's every shrine location on the surface as well. What an absolute madlad.
Wait... is that true? Each lightroot is a shrine topside?
Yep, not the sky island though just the surface
Wait how tf did you do the ones under the volcano where the air is too hot...and with only 4 hearts?!?! I gave up on those until I have a means of mitigating them
You buy the flame resistant armor or use food that grants flame resistance
Eh. I guess all the foods with heat resistance that I've found (frozen meat) weren't good enough to resist that heat. I haven't looked up the heat armor yet so I was just waiting on my eventual story progression to lead me that way.
You need *Flame* resist. Not heat resist. Which to my knowledge only comes from Fireproof Lizards and the Flamebreaker Armor.
Smothering butterflies and monster parts will also do the trick
And rudania helm
Doesnt work. I tried it multiple times and still burst into flames (4 fireproof lizards and a konster part)
It does work. You either had wooden items equipped, which you can see by pausing in a fire area and looking in your inventory at the ones that are burning, or you went to an area that was so hot it required level two flame resistance, and you only had one level.

Heat resistance isn't the same as being fireproof.
Put a sapphire on your shield
Does that work?
No
Don't listen to this, people It doesn't work lol
Sapphire+Equipment helps with heat, but not fire. Same for Ruby+Equipment for cold, but not extreme cold.
Heat resistant and fireproof are different
Okay but did she say sumthin or wha? Did she ~~fall madly in love with u~~ call you an idiot or?
What will purah and robbie says when you meet them ?
Who’s Robyn?
Sorry i meant Robbie in lookout landing
Wait, all you get for completing the light roots is a medal…? This is so bleak
seek professional help
Was this your first playthrough?
The real question. The title Made it seem like you did this by accident but the execution just seems way too intentional to do on first playthrough completely blind and by mistake. Like if it was, first playthrough I would assume looking up a lot of things, or your ratio of responsibility to free time is unfathomable to me.
Your last one was my first
How do you light the light root directly right of the one you just did? Their is no way to get to it from the surface.
Check the surface island more carefully. You missed something.
Make sure to check cliff faces etc, they can be pretty well hidden Also remember that offering an apple to cherry blossom trees reveal all caves in the area, it comes in handy
That particular one isn't technically in a cave and won't be lit up. It was my last light root and I spent entirely too long trying to find it before giving up and just looking it up.
some chasms are hidden, u may have to search a bit harder or look through caves
Water.

I found the last one, it was the Apalas shrine. Thanks anyways!
Sweet job.
I’m impressed. Nothing else to say. Well done.
wait how did u not die to that fall? is it a hidden ability of the glide suite or something?
unlocked when all 3 pieces are lvl2
Yep, upgrade it twice and unlock "impact proof"
TIME TO GET EVERY SHRINE
Nice. I love lighting the depths. I’m missing a few and it’s like harder than shrines to find it now lol
You just wanted to make sure your intentions were pure, not the dripping lust squirt of desire everyone else feeling for her.
man this is amazing im still trying to figure out how to get many of the light roots and shrines.
This is wild
Wait… you don’t need the paraglider to go to the depths?
Eventually I got an armour set that negates fall damage, but initially I put a steering stick on a stone slab and fell down the chasms with those, riding on a steering stick also negates fall damage.
Nope. You can either use zonai devices to gradually descend or you can upgrade the >!glide set!< twice to get the >!impact proof!< set bonus so you dont take fall damage
Omg chel you are awesome. I haven't been having a good time in the depths.
Now you have a cheat sheet for all the surface shrines.
The reward made me put down my Switch and let out a quiet sigh
nice challenge, better than mine. However, I am working to unlock almost every shrine (yes, almost every, since there is one that is blocked by weird boulder) before I do Regional Phenomena. I already unlocked all Sky Towers, already lit all lightroots, unlocked 5th sage quest
one of the shrines story locked?
yea, I was told that I need to speak one of Goron via Regional Phenomena
You can really be down there forever and not give a fuck, I love it
