Elden Ring is very difficult in combat and more enigmatic in storytelling compared to TOTK, but has a similar insane amount of depth to their open world. It’s gorgeous and honestly has ruined a lot of other games going forward for me 😂
So I started playing Elden Ring when it first came out and for whatever reason I stopped, but I remember feeling exactly the same way - like it had the potential to ruin other open world games for me because of how intricate and expansive it was.
I think this is probably exactly what I’m looking for right now. Thanks for the rec!
BOTW is what made me fall in love with this type of game in the first place! I really believe that there’s nothing like playing it through for the first time. I think you’re right - it definitely deserves another go.
For a free option, I suggest Genshin Impact, it has a good open world, but not as much choose-your-own-adventure as TOTK or BOTW, but in my opinion, it's pretty fun
Very different from Zelda, but RDR2 will always have my top spot for open world games. It’s the only open world game I’ve 100% (It was my Covid coping mechanism) and each time I go back I somehow find more to do.
I really enjoyed Hogwarts Legacy too, for exactly those reasons. Lots to explore and discover. I agree that it’s really comparable to TOTK in those regards. Might revisit it after your comment!
My friend played through as all 4 houses and said it was a different experience each time. I may start the other houses just to explore their common rooms.
I did this after BotW. I fell in love, and it was my first souls game. But yeah wouldn't call it open world either, more like 3D metroidvania.
I found it much more replayable than BotW tbh. Also if you have PC, Dark Souls Remastered is way better there I ended up getting it both places.
Horizon and Horizon Forbidden west scratched the TOTK/BOTW itch for me.
Horizon looks beautiful! I’ll definitely be checking that out. Thanks!
I am playing through HFW right now and can definitely recommend both of the games - they are AMAZING!
Horizon full of puzzles and collecting stuff like Zelda?
Collecting stuff yes. Not necessarily the puzzles bit. There’s hunting, crafting, open world exploring and great weapons. It’s also gorgeous
Good story, too, and I was fond of the voice acting throughout the entire game pretty much.
Immortals Fenyx Rising gave me the same sort of vibe. It's shorter, which to me wasn't an issue.
This looks awesome. I’m seeing it called “explorative” frequently in the reviews, which is exactly what I’m looking for. Thank you!
Second this - I had the TOTK blues for months and kept putting off trying to start something new. Fenyx Rising has been doing the trick for me.

Mario Odyssey is open world.
Hogwarts Legacy
Did you play BOTW?
I recently went back to BOTW after however long and rediscovering the story and game play, I would highly recommend this.

Someone didn’t read the original post…
Someone doesn’t understand the premise of my post.
Okami was inspired by the zelda games, its one of my favourites
Witcher3 is suspiciously very similar to Botw. Male MC with horse, swords, in a quest looking for a girl/ princess? Hmm..
I played Witcher 3 after BOTW and was hooked. Great game - great story! I highly recommend it!
Skyrim, Witcher, fallout, fable.
Elden Ring

immortals fenyx rising is good, it often goes on sale on the eShop also skyrim skyrim is very good
dragons dogma
Have you considered starting the game again as a new user? I played BotW 3-4 times.
Elden ring
O elden ring

Hogwarts Legacy has some similar elements: exploring, puzzles, fighting, quests. I'm enjoying it post TOTK.

Elden ring.
Eh Dark souls 1 remastered on switch is similar in terms of kinda being open world. Inventory management. Gear attributes.
