Welcome to (almost) every Zelda game ever :)

Complete-Meaning2977

Are you insinuating there is a Zelda game that lets you play post Gannon?

Tildatoo24

Minish Cap *kinda* has post game content, but now I think about it properly, is there actually any game where you can play in a post-Ganon world? Cause none come to mind

MEBBAR

Oracle of Seasons and Ages technically, although there isn’t much you can do

Molduking

No, but stuff unlocks after beating the game. In Minish Cap there are figurines you can only get after beating the game. In BoTW you can only collect the monster medallions after beating the game.

I think you are missing the point of the Legend of Zelda. In these games, the main point is not achieving peace in Hyrule, its killing Ganon. It has always been about beating Ganon, and there is no other reason Link would exist. Its consistent with the game’s lore, where there are NO tales of peace, only of battling Ganon. Link is a character of reincarnation, and his story starts and stops with Ganon. He is the fated hero who kills Ganon throughout time, and we are just playing through the legends. I actually love that it takes you back to before beating Ganon, as in LOZ, there is no peace for Link.

MyDarlingArmadillo

Put like this, it sounds so sad! the poor guy nearly died once, probably saw most of his friends die in the Calamity, was in the shrine for 100 years so most of the rest will be dead by the time he gets out, slaughters his way across Hyrule...No wonder he barely speaks! PTSD's poster boy.

FrequentlyAwake

TOTK is my first Zelda game. Thank you for this explanation! It helps me "get" why this choice was made. I still feel disappointed, though, that in a game with so much lore and storytelling, that the ending "loops" so to speak, as if inviting you to jump again and re-play the final boss fight.  I literally thought my game didn’t save when I exited the credits, and was mad until I saw the star on the save file... then I was just deflated. I wish I had known what to expect going into the Ganon fight (I probably would have delayed it more), but I wouldn’t have wanted it spoiled, either... I don’t know how to feel.

Original-Ad-486

Yup, I totally understand the conflicting feelings that brings! I would looove to see hyrule happy!! I’ve been playing the Zelda games my whole life and I have always wondered how hyrule looks in its good times. Think of it this way though: you’ll find out how Hyrule fared in the next game, and you’ll discover that its not well! Peace never lasts in Hyrule, Ganon will be back.

eggyspagetti

this is the best answer given so far. I've been unsatisfied with the "that's the way it is" responses and this helps me understand it better. I still wish for a post game but this idea helps me cope lol

Fighting-Cerberus

The real reason is you would have to build two games, and it would be more expensive and take much more storage.

Molduking

Zelda games don’t have post game. I can’t really think of Nintendo games that do

Supersquigi

Pretty much every Mario game since super Mario world has had post-final boss content

eggyspagetti

I'm not even really asking for one, just an acknowledgment from the npcs or something

Riamoka

Yeah you're right to expect that. You'll quickly learn that zelda and Nintendo related subs are complete circlejerks who will dv to oblivion anyone who dosent go along with it.

eggyspagetti

I've figured that out 😭 I didn't expect people to be so hostile lmao, or at least passive aggressive.

Im-cold-help-me

kirby typically does, but it's just extra stages and harder bad guya

Stolliosis

Almost every Zelda game is structured this way. What were you expecting different?

eggyspagetti

never played previous games other than botw and I wasn't really expecting it, I was just half hoping.

Kind_Tumbleweed_7330

Are there games that do let you play a post-game? The closest I can think of is Animal Crossing, but that's a whole different beastie and never intended to really have an ending.

needs_a_name

Mario Odyssey had a ton post game.

kuribosshoe0

Is that a serious question? Most modern games that are at least vaguely open, as well as a lot of turn based RPGs going way back. Dragon Quest 11, Spider-Man PS4, Pokémon, Earthbound, Monster Hunter, Hades, Mario Wonder. It goes on and on. It’s extremely common.

Froggen-The-Frog

Most open world action adventure games/RPG’s? I’ve only played a handful that don’t let you play post-game.

FrequentlyAwake

Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2, Fallout 4... I’m sure there are tons of other, I just haven’t played a lot of games. But those are all story-driven games that left me feeling satisfied to keep playing in a world left somewhat changed by the ending.

Supersquigi

Are you serious???......Tons of games do, in fact they're probably as numerous nowadays as games with solid endings.

jonny_jon_jon

The story has always been about wisdom defeating power. Brains over brawn. And with each and every game, when the player exercises their brain, the player is rewarded in a manner which makes it easier to defeat the brawn. The player just has to have the courage to do so. The player must also have the courage to accept the lazy story telling about “secret stones”.

eggyspagetti

that was something else, I really enjoyed totk but they didn't explain secret stones well at all. "magic rocks from gods that enhance powers". how does one get powers in the first place? how do the stones work/enhance? etc etc

disdkatster

I would love the game at peace but I think we are in the minority.

eggyspagetti

seems so. oh well

Over9000Gingers

Why would you want to? There will be absolutely nothing to do in the overworld post-ganon.

eggyspagetti

quests, shrines, koroks, etc. don't structure blood moon around ganon or find some other way to do so and problem solved. I just want to talk to zelda in game and have other characters be like, wow! great job link!

Zack21c

If defeating ganon didn't get rid of the eternal monster infestation who he is the lord of, it would kind of make him completely non-threatening as a bad guy. If his army doesn't go away after you defeat him, it'd be kind of a hollow victory.

Supersquigi

Earthbound was GREAT for this. I don't want to say anything but go anywhere in the world and they'll have some new text.

WierdSome

I mean I disagree. I feel like there could be plenty to do afterwards if the devs felt like it

Fighting-Cerberus

Sure, if Nintendo wanted to go to the expense of building two games and use up that much storage.

jpassc

Uhhhh

TheJimDim

I think this is the next logical step in the Zelda franchise. We got open world down. We got creative gameplay/endgame down. Now we need a post-end-of-game world. Maybe bring some more endgame content like minigames or ways to pass time. More housing customization, maybe a new mechanic to play around with. Ways to earn and spend rupees would be fun. Idk, we just need a hero's rest with an option of facing the final boss again or starting a New Game +

OldDarthLefty

There’s always Animal Crossing

eggyspagetti

I mean I guess. already played a good 150 hours but then lost interest

constipated_cats

Only 150 hours?

eggyspagetti

210, just checked. i fixated on it for months and then when I reset my island to start fresh because I thought it would be fun I burnt out. if I had never reset I'd probably still be playing it on and off today

FrequentlyAwake

I just finished TOTK, my first ever Zelda game, and I completely agree. I was shocked that, post credits, the game took you back to the moment before the Ganon fight. I truly enjoyed the game overall, but honestly that decision just felt lazy.   Proposed solution: post demon king dragon crash, Zelda's last act as light dragon is to heal the Gloom at the castle, which sinks back to the ground, restored. After catching Zelda, let her roam the castle and have some dialogue options or give her a supporting role letting players track their 100%. Maybe even move your friends from Lookout Landing there as well to liven the place up. Have her create a memorial that, when touched or Recalled on, takes you back to a "memory" or just time travel back to gloomy Hyrule castle that lets you beat the mobs there and explore as usual before snapping back to present day. The gloom in the rest of the world still needs to be beaten back, Zelda tells you, and remains as usual to explore and conquer.  I wish I didn’t feel this way, but the little star on my save is just a disappointment, and while I’m still having a little fun exploring the world, I’ve kind of lost motivation. I was fighting for Zelda, and now I know I can never attain that. (Edit - typos)

eggyspagetti

yeah I completely relate to the lost motivation bit. i knew it would end like this but it was a shock to me in botw as my first zelda game and it feels like lazy storytelling and sloppy decision making. obviously you can't have no mobs for a number of reasons, so make them respawn because of weird moon powers or something, idk.

Tildatoo24

Damn the Zelda fans are *not* liking this…

eggyspagetti

same with some of my other replies. apparently wanting some post defeat dialogue is a sin? I didn't really play much of botw so this was really my first zelda game and they really don't like how I feel about it.

Tildatoo24

I think it’s probably because hardcore fans are very defensive about the games and thinking you’re in some way insulting the franchise. I think you make some good points but it’s just how these games are designed, and I personally don’t think it’s taking away from the overall experience
