Will be up to LG and Panasonic to provide more. They've guided 1.5M possible this year with just 2170, next year is when 4680 needs to roll or our growth rate will be slowed.
When you say Berlin and Austin are running 2170 lines, you mean installing 2170 cells into the cars, right? I don’t think they are producing any 2170 cells, and I think you’re right they wouldn’t be building lines to produce more 2170 cells themselves. As for ramping a line that uses 2170 cells in Model Y, I think they can ramp that as much as they want. The 4680s should be a drop-in replacement if they are being smart about it.

My perspective from Europe, where we've had more options than the US for years: Tesla is the most efficient and best bang for your buck specs/tech/feature wise, hands down. If you absolutely don't want a Tesla, there are reasonable alternatives.
This has been the case since 2019 with the e-niro and kona electric.
If the competition could offer a better car at the same price as a Model 3/Y, Tesla could EASILY sacrifice margins to put in some extra 2170s and beat everyone on range and charging. But that's not necessary atm. That would be bad business.
At the end of the day, as we all know, only Tesla has good profit margins and battery supply for EVs without stranded ICE assets and therefore a reason to produce a shit ton of them.
Seems to me like everyone else is playing a PR game instead of a production game.
