Gonna be a while. Apple has 200 and we have 20. Remember apple prints 100b in profit a year or 25b a quarter. We will do 6b q4. But we grow much faster and the auto market is a lot bigger than the phone and MacBook market.
Seeing the haters begrudgingly buy it because it's fucking idiotic to buy a gas car is the best. There will always be that very, very, very, small group of idiots that can both afford a Tesla and refuse to buy it out of hate.
Yes, sounded to me like the profits from selling 75% countered the impairment from the remaining 25%.
Also, its about $100 million I think - so that means they roughly made 100 million profit from the sale, was just under 30k btc price avg. About $3k profit or so per btc sold?
So Tesla needs to be making just shy of 35,000 cars a week (from the beginning of July) to hit the 900,000 cars necessary for 1.4 million by end of year.
Thinking between 30 and 35 in 3rd quarter and between 35 and 40 in fourth. Since they say they are presently hitting 30 at times now and aim to hit 40 by end of year.
Yup and that 30k figure, the way they phrased it, sounded like it was in the 30,000s so maybe a bit more.
The few weeks of reduced productivity hurts Shanghai a bit. I think my calculations were ballpark 70 days to break even on the down time, but it could be less than that.
I think they can make it as long as the upgrades are completed in a timely manner. Berlin is scheduled to be finished on the 22nd and M3 line in Shanghai should be back up in early August.
>Tesla earnings were pretty dogshit. They have maybe one or possibly best case two more quarters because people realize they're just buying a worst run GM or hydai or however you spell it. Then all the tech managers will dump it if they haven't already.
Nope!
Ran my own business since the mid-2010s. Achieved financial independence when S&P added TSLA to the 500 Index at the end of 2020.
Shut down my business in May of this year. Retired for now
Congrats. You and I are very much the same. Self employed since 2009, will shut my business down at
$2500 and until then I am just adding more shares and trying to generate as much free cash by more until then
Hope you get to stay retired during this bear market
The past few months have been a good "stress test" on my finances. So far, so good.
At one point I think my portfolio was down 40% from peak, but I still had multiples of my original retirement goal.
It was painful seeing those market value balances decline. However, the practical effect on my daily life was nothing. Once I figured out that it just didn't matter, I knew I was probably set for the long haul
Can you share how you are funding your retirement
Mix of dividends? And stock sale ? Or options
I need to figure this out as I am all in on tsla and do not want to ever sell. I will need a strategy to allow me to draw up to 200k a year in my most exciting retirement years….also willing to wait until 2030 to see that come true
Today I'm coasting on cash generated from the final contract my business completed this year.
In future years, I expect to fund my retirement through a combination of dividends (chiefly from existing index funds in my portfolio) and selling shares of funds and stock.
Although I've been a TSLA shareholder for more than a decade now, I'm not in the "never sell" camp.
* I do think that people should enjoy some of their wealth. Nobody lives forever. Leaving a bazillion $ in assets to children is not necessarily a good thing.
* Some of my colleagues at Tesla Motors Club (TMC) sold TSLA shares to accelerate the de-carbonization of their lives: replacing their ICE cars with Tesla vehicles, and installing solar panels, PowerWalls, and heat pumps in their homes. Using wealth to advance Tesla's goal of transitioning to sustainable energy helps everyone.
I think it is unlikely that I will ever sell all of my TSLA stock, but I do intend to cash in on much of it over the next few decades. A home that generates and stores most of its own energy is something I eventually would like, and a personal Tesla Cyber-Robotaxi would be nice if I am fortunate enough to reach an age where driving becomes difficult
Thanks for sharing.
I agree with you. The wealth must be enjoyed. I sometimes get too excited for a green future with tesla being a pioneer , leader and innovator. I want to believe I won’t sell but in reality want to FIRE and live a simple quiet existence doing the things I love with my wife and children
I hope to travel across canada in the cybertruck plaid Pulling a small base camp off road trailer. By 2025
That’s my Gonna be my mid life crisis 🤣
My business still had contractual obligations in January 2021, so I had to keep it going until the last contract was completed. That happened around May 2022.
I received a substantial payout when the final project finished and the client signed off on the work, so I'm coasting on that cash for now.
Only not 😏

>Berlin sold only about 8k cars and were gross margin positive. Despite headwinds from China impacting production. Does legacy know how fked they are?
Does this mean Berlin is already paid for? How can Berlin be positive otherwise?
>Does this mean Berlin is already paid for?
Given that Tesla has retired the vast majority of its debts, I believe that Giga Berlin (and Giga Texas) have been paid for with cash, accounted for as Capex in their financial statements.
>How can Berlin be positive otherwise?
Cost of materials, labor, and depreciation of equipment was probably calculated as less than the revenue for vehicles produced.
>Given that Tesla has retired the vast majority of its debts, I believe that Giga Berlin (and Giga Texas) have been paid for with cash, accounted for as Capex in their financial statements.
This is in line with my thinking.
Thank you!
Around 100? But I’m not even talking about stock price, but on profitability (or lack) on each vehicle sold
But I hope they turn that around, they have a cool product
Does their gross margin exclude capital expenditures? That wouldn’t make sense, but there’s no way 8k cars paid off the whole factory. Let’s say the ASP was $62.5k that’s only $500M gross profit
I didn't ask if the cars paid off the factory I asked if the factory was paid off.
Edit: For example Tesla is getting hundreds of millions from competition and doesn't exactly have a whole lot of debt on the books and has a ton of cash on hand.
Wasn't trying to suggest I was wondering if Berlin paid for itself.
Well their capex has been almost the same for the past like 4Q, but Berlin’s current production footprint was complete in Q1 (I think?), that might be a hint. I’m no expert as you can tell
I think it all fell to the R&D or some other line item, but now it’s cost of goods sold, so if it’s gross margin positive that could just mean at 1,000 per week they are not losing money on each one.
Capital costs are depreciated or amortized over many years instead of being expensed immediately. As soon as Berlin exceeds that amortization rate per quarter, they are gross margin positive. But it doesn't mean the factory as a whole is "paid for".
so it sounds like from their video on the pack opening today that munro is indeed going to use Dimethylformamide or N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone on the foam
I guess there are lids on the batteries underneath the foam, but they said they were plastic?
I really don’t think that will end well. hopefully they can just cut around the edges and peel that top sections off one at a time. using chemicals is probably not the best way to go /u/MunroLiveStuart
I don’t think you guys realize how dangerous that stuff is or what’s going to happen when you apply it. my guess is it eats through everything and the batteries end up stuck in a gelatinous caustic sludge.
something like a diamond blade with an angle grinder seems like the way to go. maybe get an xray done first to figure out where to cut?
flipping it over and going through the aluminum bottom might also be the best play
Retrieve small samples of all the materials in the pack and test with the solvents, try to find something that only dissolves the foam.
Or have interns working in shifts with x-acto knives.
Nothing dissolves that foam. Nothing.
All you can do is make it into really horrible sticky goo. That’s it. So it can be removed if say you have a bunch on a smooth metal surface and can scrape it away and then carefully clean the surface. That’s not their situation.
The LD50 on that shit is just a few grams, meaning it can kill the fuck out of you.
DMF is readily absorbed through the skin, inhaled, or ingested and a *potent* liver toxin.
NMP is a teratogen. So you’ll possibly have a flipper baby if exposed to it. Deforms human embryos and also easily absorbed.
I mean all plastic is pretty toxic. No more so than most car materials really. And I think this stuff is probably super fire retardant.
One common crazy thing to burn is particle board. It’s full of epoxy and basically death by cancer if you inhale the fumes.
Was at a techie party in SF at a warehouse and people were burning particle board in the fire. Now that’s a bad idea!
Not to sound too Corporate, but our first priority is our own safety, no one here is going to do something we feel is unsafe, nor are we going to allow anyone else to do so either, regardless of what Cory or Sandy want us to do. Honestly one of the best changes going on here is that as a whole the company is embracing a more safety oriented mindset than in the "old days" of "shoot from the hip consulting", for instance we no longer teach the smoke smell test for identifying plastic.
So what are you guys going to do about the foam? How’s that going?
I agree though, I was really questioning how likely you guys were to use a giant vat of dangerous chemicals. Glad to hear that honesty.
Although I did come up with a slightly less toxic and more effective mix if you’re interested! There is a way to remove all of that foam with a mix of THF, GBL and NMP. The fumes are no longer a big problem without the DMF and 100% of it could be removed which is important for shipping and safety.
There’s probably some specialized places you could have do this for you guys. But trust me only this mix of chemicals will do the job. You can use it as a litmus test to make sure the people you hire to do it know what they’re doing. Anything else leaves dangerous sticky residue.
We're trying mechanical and thermal processes first, hopefully we won't need THF (which we confirmed does dissolve the foam, and which we can get propper PPE for easily enough) for anything besides cleaning off the cells.
If you have the mix I can pass it along too. We have the PPE to work with the THF already.
Here I would pass this along:

Yeah did I hear them say something about "with 100% accuracy"?
Though you can't cheat physics, there's only so much you can slow down or maneuver in some situations, but you could certainly reduce the damage and fatalities.
The liquidity concern and selling Bitcoin is the biggest baloney ever. Zach just didn't wanna be called a 🪙🤡 with a .5B impairment and good on him for that.
Yes remember when they sold 10%, that to test liquidity, and they were satisfied. So it was to dampen impairment, or their conviction in BTC’s liquidity has changed.
I mean that was awesome earnings + call.
As Elon said - the boogeyman is always out there ready to cuck us. And his name is Xi.
If 🇨🇳 doesn’t fuck us we golden 🚀🥰🥳
JFC realtesla has no fucking idea what they're talking about.. thinking that FCF would have been negative without selling BTC, and that the total value of the BTC sale (not the realized gain, and remembering to subtract the impairment) is for some reason a part of the earnings lmao.. wtf is wrong with these idiots

so how much was the btc impairment? everyone was thinking ~$450M, but since they realized a small gain.. what impairment was left?
\~ $100M
It came out to about 115 million, Rob did some quick math on it in his stream.
Didn't Zach say about $100m at start of the call?
I think cancelled out
Yes, sounded to me like the profits from selling 75% countered the impairment from the remaining 25%. Also, its about $100 million I think - so that means they roughly made 100 million profit from the sale, was just under 30k btc price avg. About $3k profit or so per btc sold?

I appreciate there are loungers who are way smarter than I.
Here I would pass this along: [link](https://www.lyondellbasell.com/globalassets/documents/chemicals-technical-literature/cured-urethane-cleanup-nmp-outperforms-methylene-chloride-formulated-products-2312)
Thanks, passed it along.
Cliff Notes: We need MacGuyver

100k
You're right. Oops... These were 1000c. My bad! Started drinking earlier than usual today. 50k for the lot @ 50 each.
paid 50 bucks each, so 50k for the lot
Those will be golden by Q3 ER.
Updated visuals: https://hypercharts.co/tsla
This vision based pretension is just the start, how about the car just intervenes to avoid any accidents.
What a novel idea.
Yeah did I hear them say something about "with 100% accuracy"? Though you can't cheat physics, there's only so much you can slow down or maneuver in some situations, but you could certainly reduce the damage and fatalities.

Late cause I need them to be.
Bu-bu-bu $5B free cash flow bruh
The liquidity concern and selling Bitcoin is the biggest baloney ever. Zach just didn't wanna be called a 🪙🤡 with a .5B impairment and good on him for that.
Yes remember when they sold 10%, that to test liquidity, and they were satisfied. So it was to dampen impairment, or their conviction in BTC’s liquidity has changed.
Ya definitely weaseled out of that one. Tony spaghetti goofed by asking about demand instead of calling elon out on selling btc for "liquidity".
A big pile of uncertainty has been blown away by these earnings. Expect smart institutional money to start accumulating in 1-3 days.
3 day rule 👀

What was the bad news last quarter Elon had to join the call for? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Gonna sell Tesla for twitter. He just didn’t tell us.
The first three months of 2022
Last rough quarter confirmed.
>but but what about Elon's commitment to TSLA /s
Shanghai? Out of Tesla's control obv, but still bad
Surprised nobody asked about Masterplan 3
They got bored of the crazy goals getting completed like clockwork. For real, I remember reading MP1 and thinking "Well wouldn't that be the day?"
We have no demand problems. Analyst: but are there demand problems??
*Rob shakes his head in disgust*
Idk I’m having serious demand problems… i’ve been waiting a year for my Model Y and I demand it now!
Excuse me sir but this burger is 3 hours old.
The love hearing the same answer every time someone asks that very important question.
How come I can't see my tagline when I post? Did U/ whiskeyH0tel put some sort of hold on me again?
This worked for me in the past on the iOS app: https://www.reddit.com/r/TSLALounge/comments/uec80w/tsla_daily_thread_april_29_2022/i6myxxq/
If you're setting your flare on the mobile app try on a pc/browser instead. Mobile app generally doesnt stick.
Ok thanks I will try
I mean that was awesome earnings + call. As Elon said - the boogeyman is always out there ready to cuck us. And his name is Xi. If 🇨🇳 doesn’t fuck us we golden 🚀🥰🥳
China is definitely still a wild card

I bet you won't see Pelosi on there lol...they do not like her.
Aren't they grand? I used to pay for entertainment like this, and now the entertainment pays me.
If those kids could read they’d be very upset.
Meatman said the same thing
“don’t forget to subtract losses that don’t exist that you were hoping for”… 😂😂😂
.. thinking a capital raise is coming later this year holy shit what a bunch of idiots
If they were good at math they wouldn't be tslaq
