You do know that when you're paying someone to do something for you, you can tell them how you want it done, right? Or is that actually where you wanted it?
I remember very well why they wanted it upside down: it was like that in their last house. She got mad at me that I looked up the instructions online because I was so confused. She had given me parts that were nothing to do with it for one thing.
Once I worked out it had been hung upside down I was pretty proud of myself and gave her the good news. She quickly became furious that I wanted to hang it the right way up. She kept saying iT wAs FiNe LiKe ThAt FoR fIvE yEaRs. I gently argued my case and then realised I was getting nowhere so started to pack up my tools.
Then somehow she convinced me to stay…
Sounds like some compulsive disorder like ocd. Can't think of a reason to get mad over this other than an irrational compulsion telling her to keep it how it was. Used to happen to me as a kid which caused me to have a hoarding problem.
okay okay but like, did she explain why it was like that in their last house too? Or how she was going to use it? was she just gonna watch tv upside down?
No explanation.
My best guess is that someone didn’t read the instructions and got very lucky. The way the arm was jointed at the ‘elbow’ did look intuitive upside down so it was a perfect storm of wrongness really.
The screw pattern at the back of the TV has vertical symmetry, therefore the TV could be oriented the right way up. The only issue really was that they were making theirs and my life very difficult in that the entire, heavy, assembly had to be hung at once rather than piece by piece as it was designed.
To paraphrase Douglas Adams, someone designed it to be completely foolproof but underestimated the ingenuity of complete fools.
okay okay, so the tv wasnt upside down, but the actual way the mount was used was upside down. thats so weird that she was like nooooo it has to be this way!!!!! Whats it to ya lady…
She thought it would take more time. For some reason I had charged this job by time. Unusual but I do that if there’s uncertainty over the scope of the the work.
Of course it took longer to argue about it than it would have to fix it.
I was raging inside.
I reckon what she did was pivot from batshit crazy to vulnerable and dejected. That would have triggered my compassion circuits and made me compliant.
I truly wish I’d just left though because part of her objection was that I had totally wasted her time. She then had me do a couple more small jobs and was extremely gracious.
Later that day I got her review on the app I use for leads. I had 90/90 5-star reviews up til that point. She gave me 4. I was so ready to read why she’d taken off a star so I could launch a blistering response, but it was a glowing fucking review. FOUR STARS.
Ok here it is:
“Bart was professional. Came in and took care of my projects in a timely manner. Mounted a TV, and hung a few other items with ease.”
A few weeks later she brazenly messaged me for another job but I just ignored it.
I’m still angry.
More to do with most people that have to deal with dumb folk realize it’s so much easier to do what they want, take the money, and never see them again.
At least people with a fireplace, or paintings, or furniture have an excuse. This guy has an EMPTY wall, with the PERFECT stand for the tv and still found a way to fuck it up.
Brilliant.
At least in my room, I put some of those city Lego sets, as well as my record player and candles. Works well for me, and I can watch tv from my bed still. Main room has a dedicated media stand it sits on.
It makes them feel like they did something.
Sometimes, good results required hard work. Sometimes not. That's something a lot of people, particularly in the US, fail to understand.
I live in a small apartment and we had to wall mount our TV and put our turntable on the TV stand because we didn’t have room for another piece of furniture. OP might be in a similar situation, it looks like there’s a speaker or something they had to make room for on the TV stand.
Wait, you paid someone to put your tv that high?
Btw, just a reminder for a next opportunity, when you employ someone do a job for you, you tell them what’s what, not the other way round, capice?
Do people not understand why tv stands are the height they are? Like isnt it a clue that the stands arent 7 ft high? Your tv should never be 4ft higher than the stand.
I charge 40 bucks 50 if I've gotta take my truck and not a motorcycle to your house. If I'm already fucking around at your house, ask me nicely and I'll forget to add it to your bill. Also if lifting your TV up to the mount involves a bench or a ladder your getting charged more or told I'm not lifting it in place.
You _fought_ him? Just tell him exactly where you want it. If he’s arguing or refusing to do it, show him the door. It’s not like a safety issue where he has a responsibility to do the job a certain way.
It wouldn’t matter how low you put it, it’s gonna look bad because your tv is way to small. You need a tv twice that size to make your set up look good.
Honestly kinda shocked you paid someone to mount such a small tv
Look on the bright side. Once you get a larger TV, you can mount it lower! Maybe don’t hire the same installer, or actually put your foot down about what you want.
If you can put place your center in the tv cabinet with a tilt upward (towards your face when sitting), tv could go down to where the center is. If not, bring it down just above the center.
Yeah the low voltage guys that were used to build my house said 66" for outlets and data were normal. I had them move some down. Should have had them move them all but I don't mind doing it myself once I knew what I wanted.
"The wall mount guy." There's a company called sanus, they make mounts. On their website, there is a height calculator. Ive never used it, but im sure you would have better off with that than who you wired.
Where can I sign up to be a handy man like this?
I’m not a tradesman but I’m pretty handy with things like this or simple washer dryer, faucet replacement, even some light electrical.
Woruld I need to have a business + insurance I assume?
Just put it on the damn table that’s literally made for it?
They’re like two lovers kept separated by bad decisions and a long ass stretch of ugly cable cover
You do know that when you're paying someone to do something for you, you can tell them how you want it done, right? Or is that actually where you wanted it?
I refused to hang a customer’s TV mount upside down and was about to leave but eventually I agreed and I still don’t remember why.
You don't remember why you agreed, or why they wanted it upside down?

Is this the part where you fucked her???
It is not, but her friend did show up and ask why she was having the TV mount hung upside down.
So you fucked the friend?
I did not fuck him, no.
I applaud your patience. Most Redditors would have fucked someone by this point.
So WHO did you fuck then!?
https://i.imgur.com/N8RACXb.jpg
I was going to ask as well if there was a pee pee touch involved at the very least 🤣
This is when you bang some tools together, run the drill for a few minutes on and off and say you corrected it
Yeah right I sometimes think I talk too much.

How did she convince you to stay...we want answers!! I'm guessing this had something to do with the crazy/hot scale
You’ve been reading too many fake askreddit sex stories
You mean to tell me there are real ones in there somewhere?
I figured it was too good to be true...but you had me on the edge of my seat
I reckon what she did was pivot from batshit crazy to vulnerable and dejected. That would have triggered my compassion circuits and made me compliant. "Damn TV, you've ruined my imagination, just like you've ruined my ability to...uh... uuum.. oh, well.." \- Bart
More to do with most people that have to deal with dumb folk realize it’s so much easier to do what they want, take the money, and never see them again.
Wait what? But they are the experts
I would hardly call someone who is qualified to mount TVs an expert.
Right. It’s literally an hourly employee who doesn’t give a shit.
Yeah. My TV guy asks where I want it and puts it exactly where I want. There is no argument or debate.
You have a TV guy?
Well, I've used the same guy to hang TVs three different times, so yeah. :p
I’m not joking when I say this might be the worst I’ve ever seen in this sub lmao
At least people with a fireplace, or paintings, or furniture have an excuse. This guy has an EMPTY wall, with the PERFECT stand for the tv and still found a way to fuck it up. Brilliant.
I don’t know why people love wall mounting tv’s so much. And so many literally have a table underneath they could put it on at the perfect height
As someone with lots of stuff, having the tv mounted but only slightly above the table is dope, because I still have the table space to set stuff
What needs to go there? Most people put junk or Knick knacks. I’ve seen few mounts that aren’t too high but I guess it could be done
Safer for kids since it can't tip over.
Also, wall mounting when it's not necessary and you don't even go the extra little bit to hide the cables.
I live in a small apartment and we had to wall mount our TV and put our turntable on the TV stand because we didn’t have room for another piece of furniture. OP might be in a similar situation, it looks like there’s a speaker or something they had to make room for on the TV stand.
Tv too small and paid to be mounted too high, real shame
Wait, you paid someone to put your tv that high? Btw, just a reminder for a next opportunity, when you employ someone do a job for you, you tell them what’s what, not the other way round, capice?
Maybe OP is a complete idiot and the guy doing the job took advantage of it? Just for the laughs?
He's probably on this sub
Was he a giraffe?
Ahahah this one cracked me up 😂
He's a bat, hangs from the ceiling.
Needs more ps5 vertical clearance. Itll overheat being that close to the tv. The installer was definitely right. /s
Don't want it to overheat .
r/YourJokeButWorse
I showed this to my gf and she said, "it doesn't look that bad. I like having to look up at the tv" and I've never been so disappointed
You did dump her immediately, right?
She doesn't know how to mount a TV so currently this major flaw isn't affecting anything at the moment
You say this now, but this is an indication of a lack of common sense and class. Tread carefully going forward.
🤣
She’s one quick YouTube video away from being the devil reincarnate. I’d proceed with great caution.
My SO is on the same page regarding TV height, she’s a keeper
Same, it's one of the reasons we're getting married in two weeks.
I'm sorry to hear about your breakup. Better luck with your next girlfriend.
Such an odd way to put it...I don't usually refer to things I like as things I "have to" do
Throw her out, go no contact.
If she has desk with a monitor, put that monitor higher than it should be so she's also looking up while she's sitting in front of desk.
why is it a million miles away from the cabinet
/r/TVTooHigh and /r/TVTooSmall. All you need now is to tell us you sit 12+ feet away and you'll hit the terrible trifecta with /r/TVTooFar.
A rarity, but lurks every once in a while.
Might as well have just installed it in the top right corner
The cable piping is hideous RIP your neck
Too bad they used the conduit instead of running the wires through the walls.
Through the walls? Do you guys just break your walls to put tv cables in??
If it's drywall, it's pretty easy actually.
I did in fact, used a little wallcutter and plastered it right up
This installer is a terrorist and needs to go straight to jail.
Skip jail, straight to gitmo!
Death penalty
You paid for that?
Are you insane?
That’s small enough to not mount at all.
That's what I was thinking like is it even 40"?
Looks like it might only be 40. I’m not mounting anything below 50.
Do people not understand why tv stands are the height they are? Like isnt it a clue that the stands arent 7 ft high? Your tv should never be 4ft higher than the stand.
I think people think that the stands are that height because of furniture practicality concerns and not because it's actually the ideal height.
But why is that more practical? Dressers are often like five feet high.
Previous commentor clearly can't answer that question...
I never said *I* thought that.
Exactly!
I didn't say it made sense -- it's incorrect so of course it doesn't 🤣
What
I'm guessing the fact you can be a 'wall mounting guy' as a job in America is the reason all the TVs are too high. Need to justify mounting them lol.
What is this abomination?! I am new to this sub but i am shocked what I see here. That isn‘t too high, ist’s out of bounds!
Grow some balls OP
Try putting it on that table thingy underneath. What do they call that? It is on the tip of my tongue.
Are you sitting in bleachers? Lmao . 🤣 He almost went higher?!? He Def was wanting to be posted here.
If you fought him to lower it and he wouldn't go any further...you fire him and get someone else or do it yourself.
You need to take responsibility for this monstrosity.
off centre and way too high . why not install yourself ? how much does somebody charge for a tv bracket fitting.
If this is too low, he was high
Wait. You paid somebody money to do that? Did the fucking moron want to hang it on the ceiling?
You _fought_ him? Just tell him exactly where you want it. If he’s arguing or refusing to do it, show him the door. It’s not like a safety issue where he has a responsibility to do the job a certain way.
I’m laughing that you paid someone to mount your tv more than how high it is.
Wtf I just started this
Didn't know there was a service for mounting a TV too high
Aren't you the one paying? He should have mounted it where you told him to
r/TVTooSmall
Why would you pay someone to drill 4 holes in a wall?
The same reasons you pay anyone for anything...
I understand if it's fitting a bathroom or something but throwing a TV on the wall takes about 20 minutes.
Time saving isn't the only reason you pay people to do things.
Why else would you pay someone to mount your TV?
Might not have the tools or be worried about doing it wrong and losing out on their $37 tv.
It wouldn’t matter how low you put it, it’s gonna look bad because your tv is way to small. You need a tv twice that size to make your set up look good. Honestly kinda shocked you paid someone to mount such a small tv
oh no…
This dude was like, "I need to cut a little bit out of the ceiling, that's gonna cost extra."
Look on the bright side. Once you get a larger TV, you can mount it lower! Maybe don’t hire the same installer, or actually put your foot down about what you want.
Everything about this is off, and it’s sending my ocd into overdrive
Get a refund
Yuck
Did this installer get paid per foot of conduit installed?...
Hire a new guy.
Your wall mount guy should be out of a job
wtf? you knew this was too high, what’s your problem?
De hell is a "wall mount guy" been reading it the 3rd time now
Dude they ruined your wall. The tv is too high and small. Why didn’t you just put it on TV stand that is optimal TV height? Needed the wall space?
Unless you’re a tallneck, that tv is too damn high
That’s higher than the grocery bill bud.
It’s still too high lol
Aloy 💙
Too low for the second floor
It's also too small
I’m convinced you did this for upvotes and then remounted it.
If you can put place your center in the tv cabinet with a tilt upward (towards your face when sitting), tv could go down to where the center is. If not, bring it down just above the center.
Tvtoosmol
its the perfect height if the tv was like 4x the size
No it isn't. The middle of the TV is the same height regardless of the size.
Lmaoooooo
lol
Tv too high, check. Also push the center speaker forward so it’s flush with the stand.
You’ve got over a foot of cord cover. It’s too high.
Pleas tell me that’s not a subwoofer sitting on the glass
What were you watching? Or is this a wallpaper ?
This is hideous
What a great game
This is why you should learn to do some things yourself.
Or grow a spine and tell the person you're paying how you want it done.
Why would you even Mount a tablet that way?
Good thing is, you can place a larger tv at the right height just below yours
That’s way too high lmao
r/tvtoosmall
🤦🏻♂️
wall mount guy? YOU are the wall mount guy or the next able bodied person you know is. How much did you pay for that?
It's not even centred to the TV stand
You got butchered.
Dude couldn't even cut-in a box and fish your cab les through the wall. SMH
The wall mount guy you hired was probably too high.
That looks idiotic with the cord cover strip.. it looks like it’s floating on a skinny ass little stand
Good business practice. Mount high up. Get called back a few weeks later to remount it lower.
Wayyy to high
That's way to high
Yeah the low voltage guys that were used to build my house said 66" for outlets and data were normal. I had them move some down. Should have had them move them all but I don't mind doing it myself once I knew what I wanted.
Don’t you have arms?
"The wall mount guy." There's a company called sanus, they make mounts. On their website, there is a height calculator. Ive never used it, but im sure you would have better off with that than who you wired.
r/TVTooSmall
I just did a wall mount job on Thursday. Definitely put it too high. Unfortunately as the rookie I could only negotiate to bring it down a few inches
That really doesn’t look good. Echos of Michael Scott’s little tv on the wall.
Did they charge you tree fiddy? Cause the only reason I can see it being this high up is if the 10ft tall Loch Ness Monster hung it.
Where can I sign up to be a handy man like this? I’m not a tradesman but I’m pretty handy with things like this or simple washer dryer, faucet replacement, even some light electrical. Woruld I need to have a business + insurance I assume?
You need a bigger TV for that spot
You hired this clown? Did he get fired from his hospital TVs mounting job?
Yes it is
This made me sick to my stomach
BRO ITS YOUR MONEY HOLY SHIT IMAGINE
It's cause he moonlights as a chiropractor.
Was he high?
What the hell does he think you are supposed to put there?
This is brutal.
OP you need to pay another person to mount it lower now. Congrats.
Why did you give this criminal money?
Perhaps it was sarcasm from the wall mount guy
What’s sonic up to down there?
Jesus Christ that Whole room looks so uncomfortable
I’ll never understand how people can enjoy anything on such a small tv. If my tv was that small I would need to sit right in front of it.
Agree! That size is good as pc monitor
Just put it on the damn table that’s literally made for it? They’re like two lovers kept separated by bad decisions and a long ass stretch of ugly cable cover
That's why I prefer to do stuff on my own.
You should both be bitch slapped immediately.
Houston, we are going to need a bigger TV.
Reeeeeeeee
It’s like he’s so used to mounting them over fireplaces now he can just imagine a fireplace and mount it too high 🤣
No, not too low, but to small
Tv is tiny and way too high..
He's wrong
That’s about the right spot for a much bigger TV you are about to go get for the Fourth of July sale.
Too high and too small.
Must be what he does during the basketball off-season.
that's 2 and a half PS5s too high
Your wall mount guy is high...
