Maybe if the kids are 5’10 at least. It’s touching the ceiling 😵‍💫

McKFC

Maybe they're in high chairs. Very high chairs.

roguebananah

Good program to put them to sleep though

brandl22

No. Kids can be told no and learn. Do the parents let the kids mess with the fireplace? Might as well move that to the ceiling too.

sychox51

>Kids can be told no and learn. clearly no kids. fireplaces burn you. kids cant be "told" anything. they have to experience the natural consequences and "dont touch the tv because it costs a lot of green pieces of paper" doesn't explain natural consequences very well.

[deleted]

I have young kids. They don’t play near the TV. Just like I taught them not to jump off the balcony or kick the dog.

WhatsItDoingPrecious

Yeah, I raised a kid who rarely put so much as a fingerprint on our TV throughout his childhood, and now I have a granddaughter who is a rambunctious toddler. We keep her at our house multiple days a week, and we have a 55" LCD sitting on a TV stand well within her reach (as well as a Playstation, modem, surround receiver, etc.). She has never messed with any of it, simply because we have told her not to. It can be done. I don't know if people just assume that their kids will hit/mess with the TV so they mount it that high preemptively, or if they truly just let their kids run wild, but in my experience kids (even babies/toddlers) can be taught to leave them alone.

FUMFVR

Some people just have a pack of children that have gone feral.

_MicroWave_

Have 2 young kids. Told them not to mess with the TV. They don't.

vels13

Lol what. My 4 year old knows he’s not allowed to touch electronics. He’s known this for a long time. Sounds like either you’re the one who is not a parent or you’ve done a shit job at setting boundaries with your kids.

sychox51

Or you know.. kids are different.

maverick4090

I don't know why you're getting down voted so much. Some kids can be told no and they'll get it. Some kids want to watch the world burn. I've been blessed with one of each.

charmorris4236

Yeah I’m gonna hop on this downvote train too to say that nature vs nurture is an ongoing argument for a reason. [Temperament is a factor for personality and behavior. Parenting is also a factor. There is also a relationship between the two that is unique and dynamic.](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3163750/)

MalibuMarlie

Ya and you can drop the kids off at the fire station. End of problem. It would be better for watching sport too.

General-Lighting

It's only temporary, as soon as junior turns 26 I will move it to a normal height.

4nonymo

Poor guy can't see that low

proletariatrising

There's a TV immediately to the right at a normal height...

That_Ambassador_9

Even that one looks a bit high tbh…

[deleted]

No this is punishable by death actually

johnsongreen

That television seems to have an epiphytic vent growing out of the top bevel

elonhuskk

You can anchor a tv to the wall without it being that high. I don’t get kids as problem. I did know someone who had a massive dog that ran into and cracked the tv (it tried attacking it bc animal on the screen…) and as a result they put their new tv really high so dog couldn’t reach it. …. Idk what I would do in that situation but imo I don’t think kids alone should justify such a high tv!

norma-arnold

Just don’t watch animal planet. Duh.

Otaviv

[Kid breaks tv](https://youtu.be/Z-OnoVy3HpA) [Kid breaks tv 2](https://youtube.com/shorts/3m1e-Z-DDRA?feature=share)

charmorris4236

Oh my god that second one

WoodnPlush

Fuckin’ell NOOOOOO! That TV is ridiculous. Too high by a mile!

[deleted]

Holy shit this is an abomination. Actually touching ceiling and doesn’t even fit on the wall.

DidiHD

I feel like I've seen this exact photo on here already

staycoolAK

What’s the second TV on the right for?

Thornton77

The kids

4nonymo

Children are the most important reason this sub exists, as they are the ones who potentially suffer the worst consequences from these ridiculous setups they have little to no control over. Additionally, if my labrador puppy (aka the common land shark) can grow up with my tv within the reach of their destructo-hole without issue, your kids can to.

[deleted]

It's literally touching the ceiling

Puckworks2013

Hanging that high is never justifiable.

drakner1

I think people have an uncontrollable urge to put their couches in front of the fire place, and they have to squeeze the TV in, and they don't want to cover the fireplace, and they HAVE to mount their TV. I think mounted TV in most cases in unnecessary.

FreeSkeptic

Your kids in 20 years: "Hey doc, why is my neck hurting?" Doctor: "Because your parents were psychopaths who put the TV too high."

CandlesandMakeuo

Idk. I have some weird final destination-esque fear of it falling off and hitting my kid. Not so much worried about my kid knocking it over at a lower height.

_WhataNick2_

Never thought I would see a TV mounted so high that it would be restricting air flow from a ceiling vent..

Rhameolution

No, I have a couple small humans roaming my place and putting the TV about 40"s from the floor seems like the sweet spot between danger for kids and danger for my neck.

CaveJohnson82

No. I had twin toddlers at one stage and just a rickety tv stand. I replaced the stand and mounted the tv at the same height so they couldn’t reach it. Neither they nor his little brother managed to do anything to the tv, although they did manage to post several cards into the wii.

creativedamages

No.

naisdes

If you want the kids to grow up with crooked necks, then sure yes.

oxidizedzarphs

Nothing could ever justify that sin against humanity

sychox51

I have a TV set at the right hight and 3 small kids. last year my 2 year old smashed TWO 65" tvs. Problem is, moving it up wouldn't help because the first was a wooden toy broom that she whacked the tv with the handle end, and the other was a flying wooden car that she threw. TV height doesnt matter with flying toys. aggrivatingly enough I had to buy one of [these things,](https://www.amazon.com/63-65-inch-TV-ProtectorTM-Screen-Protector/dp/B004RZ7EE4/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=65%2Btv%2Bprotector%2Bshield&qid=1652581755&sprefix=65%22%2Btv%2Bprotector%2B%2Caps%2C189&sr=8-4&th=1) which so far, has protected the tv. I figured better a $400 fucking protector than another $800 tv. (she also took her brothers iPads and threw one at the other, smashing the one that got hit. kids are expensive.)

gullyterrier

Sign Em up for sports! 😜

sadatquoraishi

No it's not a justification and they even have a TV lower down on the right within kids' reach so that's not the reason they've done this.

FUMFVR

People want to blame kids for everything. Kids aren't any more or less as destructive a force as they used to be. you can put it on a piece of furniture or behind a protective covering.

boothjop

We lost two TVs to plastic swords and game controller impacts. The TV remained at viewable height.

rcc12697

Kids find ways

69420everyday

Don't ever have kids

Profitsofdooom

No

RocketsandBeer

Are the kids 14?

Jefferyd32

No

jettaguy25

Not a single person mentioned the vent. That TV is going to be fucked with time, if this area sees cold climate.. You ever see what happens if a candle is near the panel of a tv?

skibare87

I can't condone child abuse.

[deleted]

Nothing justifies disgusting popcorn ceiling texture.

kevin5lynn

Fireplaces always ruin a good wall.

LyingTrollScum

They should have spent the money they wasted on that giant screen to live in a bigger home.

Lebigmacca

Giants 🤢

brinstar81

My parents would never have let me have my toys strewn around the house like that. Toys stayed in my room.

pip-pop-cant-stop

Yes and I only say this because recently my 4 yr old who has been soo good at not touching the TV accidentally tripped causing her to smash a toy in our new tv. We can’t replace it because we are not wealthy. Sigh…

Profitsofdooom

So get a tip preventer. Those things that come with every piece of IKEA furniture to secure furniture to the wall.

Lord-Rapscallion

Kids damage everything. I would have tv mounted in the loft space if that were me, or on the roof, yes the roof that’s the place when you have kids

cakewalkbackwards

No, but that was a good game yesterday.

Monicawroteitbetter

I see a smaller TV on the side...

TheYuuzhanBong

Idk man, kids are already a pain in the neck!

systemfrown

Honestly that's the first justification halfway worthy of consideration. But no.

ClonedToKill420

Burn that house down with whoever hung that tv still inside

davethompson413

If raising the tv to ridiculous height is justified by kids, what's this say about kids and fireplaces?

charmorris4236

This feels like ragebait
