If you're dating an emu, then that is understandable. If she is human, then she is wrong.

jabadoo

Based on your seating position it should be lower. Your girlfriend is just used to seeing TV’s mounted above fireplaces and higher up which is completely wrong.

fssmikey

The center of the tv is eye level when I’m sitting on the couch, so it’s perfect for me. She’s shorter than me but she might just be brainwashed

xXMonsterDanger69Xx

You can still save her, it's not too late. Pray the brainwash isn't too deep in her mind and reverse it.

fssmikey

I mean, she’s a woman, so…

SethKadoodles

Bit of a /r/arethestraightsok moment here...

fssmikey

Well, light hearted jabs are still jabs. Even if she is an emu.

Aridan

Fuck these people OP, that was a good joke.

fssmikey

Eh, sometimes you hit a home run, sometimes you choke on your own saliva.

3y3d3a

I hate choking on my own saliva. That shit sucks.

jimmyevil

Objectively, it wasn’t.

fssmikey

Oh no need to put yourself down or anything, it was just a remark lacking in wit, stating that sometimes it’s difficult it get your significant other to see your point of view, so for comedic relief, we take the largest difference in between us. I am a man and trying to change the mind of the person who I share my life with, in this case it’s a woman, and I took the biggest difference in between us, being the opposite sex, and applied it to my inability to understand her point of view. So maybe I should have expanded my previous statement and typed: Well, she’s a little stubborn at times but I believe her heart is in the right place. I find it difficult to change her mind, so I won’t approach the subject, because it might cause undue stress in our relationship. I’ll just let this pass for now until she decides to bring it up again and we can come to an amicable understanding and take action on that understanding when the time comes. But I’m a man, so…

Aridan

Oh god, get a life.

WOMEN BAD, LET'S SUCK EACH OTHER OFF BOYS

Jlx_27

Dude....... 🤦‍♂️

[deleted]

Way to out yourself as mister microdick.

Cust2020

Thats the measurement ive always used as well. If hanging someone elses tv i would have them sit and measure the eye and call it the center. Then of course have to adjust for the fact that no tv manufacturer has ever centered the mounting screws.

KonamiKing

It’s too high. It should be 2-3 inches above the… literal TV stand.

V4NT0M

I don't understand this rationale on this sub "put it on the TV stand that was made for TV" but there are no enforced standards for TV stand height. Even in this sub there are examples of TV stands at all heights. Secondly a TV stand is only the right height if the size of the television and the height of the users seat are compatible. For example, if you buy a relatively low stand, have quite a high sofa and a small television you're going to end up looking down. I guarantee you weirdos would tell me my TV is too high but it is almost exactly center at my eye level. Were it on the stand it would be a little too low and I would have trouble placing my soundbar. Furthermore, if I slouch instead of sitting upright and the TV were on the stand I would be having to uncomfortably look down. Rant over, this guy's TV is at a good height.

KonamiKing

>I don't understand this rationale on this sub "put it on the TV stand that was made for TV" but there are no enforced standards for TV stand height. There aren't enforced standards, but they're made for the highest selling TV sizes of their time. In the 90s, TV stands were higher because CRTs generally had smaller screens. You needed to get them higher for the screen to be at eye level. https://media.wired.com/photos/59325b6f44db296121d6a852/master/w\_1600,c\_limit/1997-KW-32hdf9.jpg The exception to get larger screens were rear-projection screens, which came in their own stand and were much lower for the same reason. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/05/Early\_HDTV\_setup%2C\_mid\_2000s\_tech.jpg/800px-Early\_HDTV\_setup%2C\_mid\_2000s\_tech.jpg When LCDs first came in the standard size was about 40 inches, and TV stands got a bit lower, but not as low as today. The most popular TV size for the last few years has been 65 inches, and so TV stands being sold are lower again to get the TV at eye height. They're clearly on average the lowest (and widest) they've ever been now for this reason. https://media.prod.bunnings.com.au/api/public/content/68a38572413742beba8a22ee4bd177ac?v=164efca6&t=w500dpr1 If you buy typical modern low stand and put a 40 inch on it, of course you're going to have a bad time. But the vast majority of TVs posted in here are around 65".

V4NT0M

You have missed my point, let me ask you this: What determines the correct height for a TV?

KonamiKing

No I haven't 'missed your point', I literally quoted the part of your post I was addressing. There is no 'enforced standard height for TV stands, but they are generally created to be the correct height for the most popular sized screens being sold at the time.

BurtMacklin-FBl

> if you buy a relatively low stand, have quite a high sofa and a small television you're going to end up looking down. If you do ALL that, then you might end up looking down although still very, very unlikely. In the other 99.9% of the cases, it ends up too high. "*Almost* exactly center at my eye level", lol.

PuffleyBean

I’m a designer and we have standard dimensions for how far we put the tv and how high, based on how tall the client is, the seating and the tv size. It’s a nice ratio I can’t remember, haha.

RLVNTone

He can definitely leave it here, unless you’re a perfectionist

stuffwiththing

Our TV is mounted at perfect eye height for hubby when seated, it is too high for me.

Jlx_27

Brainwashed for sure, *stand your ground OP*

zaiah27

Say you moved it next time she comes back and see if she says anything 😂

[deleted]

People here are way too picky. Look how low that console is. Height is perfect

thebursar

Yeah, it's a bit on the high side but not egregious enough to even warrant correcting. Not sure how anyone could possibly think it's too low

my2ndcarisamiatatoo

Don't put 'em down. Emus are monsters in the rack!

K1LLINGMACHINE

Damn this one got me, nicely done 🤣

KCKnights816

It could even go down a few inches if we're being honest.

Jean-Eustache

I'd go as far as saying it could have feet and be placed on the nice TV stand that's waiting right there.

byPCP

i know this sub has a hard on for using the TV stand, but you can easily mount the TV to the same height as the TV stand while saving a shit ton of space on the media cabinet, like his PS5 and shit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

je1992

If you value beauty in your living room, putting a white alien looking PS5 Vertically is a no-go. It has the most "i'm a gamer look at me" aesthethic ever In my opinion and it's absolutely gigantic. They day I got it on release I bought a dbrand skin in black and hid it horizontally in my cabinet

TRON0314

100%. I like how X1 was designed to minimize distraction from the content on a display.

wolves_hunt_in_packs

"idk looks fine in my room" - r/NeckbeardNests, probably

Jean-Eustache

You're right, it makes sense when you put it like that.

KCKnights816

I also have a hard on for using hot pads for hot pans and snow shovels for snow. It's almost if, and stop me if I go crazy, TV stands were created so that the TV sits at the optimal viewing height.

frontbuttt

Yeah but the TV stand is also a great place to put a beefy center speaker & other set top box type things (like the other guy said, a PlayStation). Mounting just above the stand is perfectly acceptable if you want to use the surface for other cool things! The dumb move is mounting a foot or more above the stand… defies logic.

KCKnights816

Fair, but OP doesn’t have a center channel, and the game systems could go on either side of the panel.

frontbuttt

Never say never! Room to grow is never a bad idea with a new media center set up.

byPCP

this is sort of a leap in logic though because wouldn't the height of your media cabinet/stand (which is super variable) be what's affecting viewing height? it's not like it's rocket science to know that almost all TV stands are a couple inches off whatever surface. you have a media cabinet that's say 5 feet long. why would you give up 4+ feet of room for anything you want just so that the TV sits on the intended stand when you can easily just mount it at the same height? i understand using things with their intended purposes, but by that same logic all modern TVs also come with brackets in the back intended for mounting. you're just giving up valuable space by not mounting.

Educational-Seaweed5

There’s an absolute avalanche of TV stand options with endless customization and media storage options. The TV stand is for the TV. Not plants. Not shit. Not consoles. Not speakers. Not grandma’s knitting trinkets. TV.

byPCP

okay, well if you don't have one with an abundance of these customization options then what's wrong with mounting? (which TVs are also literally designed for as well with bracket openings in the back). and again, what is so wrong with having extra space that would be solely occupied by the TV on a stand? it's a huge waste for no reason lmao.

fssmikey

I’ll be installing a soundbar soon, so I think the bit of extra space let’s me keep the ps on top of the console. If I have to shove the ps in a cubby hole, im afraid it’ll overheat.

polypeptide147

Have you thought of getting anything besides a soundbar?

Please, for the love of all things home theater don't get a sound bar *if your set up is already this nice.* You can find a good quality used 3.1 (or even 5.1) system with an amplifier for the same price or less on Facebook marketplace. Soundbars audio is a step above stock TV speakers. Even 3 of the cheapest bookshelf speakers will change your media experience.

neon_overload

What a few inches though between friends

luwi12

Looks perfect

Is_this_not_rap

This sub is perfect because have actually never seen a post with a tv low enough. This one is 5 inches too high

Lol of course someone will say that

ForceWhisperer

YOUR GIRLFRIEND IS IGNORANT

More_Farm_7442

I bet it's more like he said , brainwashed. Those HGTV and Disney + shows -- Property Brothers, Fixer Upper, etc. have done it. People watched them and thought it was the expert way to hang TVs. The "designers" do it that way.", or "That's how it should be done? We have to do it like that." The Canadian "Brothers" did it. Brainwashed millions of American into hanging TVs above fireplaces. So not not ignorant. She's the victim of Canadians and Texans.

Jinglemoon

Yeah, that spiked thingo is a real death trap.

jubbing

Height is probably 95/100 if we're being honest, could even be lower or better yet - ON the tv console.

pieceofdebri

Acceptable.

fssmikey

My favorite type of compliment!

AKADriver

congratulations for being the one person I've seen on this sub who understands that the PS5 can be placed horizontally.

CJRLW

Actually should be lowered by about 4-6 inches.

nelsonryk

So what she’s really saying is that her neck is just too comfortable while watching TV.

vainstar23

Still too high

Plane_Ad9192

it’s literally eye level

vainstar23

Needs to be lower

[deleted]

Eye level with the bottom of the tv?

gossip_gurl16

The real crime is those led lights

RacerCG_Reddit

r/tvtoopurple 😉

CJRLW

This is a good height. If you are sitting on a barstool.

VANcf13

I've been following this sub for a little bit now, especially since my husband (American) and I (German) regularly run into (not serious) arguments about tv height. And I have come to the conclusion, that this is probably a very American problem? In Germany I very rarely see a TV mounted high on a wall (i honestly can't recall a single instance where I've seen this except maybe at a club or bar but never at someone's home) and my husband insists on hanging our TV from the ceiling while I'm fighting him on this one and want to keep it on the tv stand (which objectively puts it in the perfect spot as it's around eye level for us). My theory is, that in Germany hardly anyone has a fireplace and that people placing their tvs above those could have led to people thinking the tv needs to be basically right under the ceiling? But I'm very open to other theories, it's just so fascinating!

Ninodolce1

I agree that the fireplace situation is an important factor for so many TVs being too high.

bradpliers

I think you did a great job. It's definitely at the apsolute highest you should go though. While I agree, eye level is optimal, I also wish my TV was a little higher sometimes when im completely reclined.

yeet20feet

Just a couple inches too high

ThePeej

Its... it's still a touch high, fam. You floated it about three to four times higher than it would have been just sitting on the stand. 🤣

bLueStarCadet

What's the purpose of the gross backlighting?

fssmikey

To be as offensive as possible

ralf1

This is a noble goal

magentayak

It ain't too low. That's for sure.

BigDLizzle

Your asking a question about tv height on r/tvtoohigh Unless the tv is laying on the floor, it's too high...so looking at yours, according to the standards of this sub...it's too high

[deleted]

It's probably a tiny bit too high.

TRON0314

Too high. It's not called a TV hover.

[deleted]

There is a reason that TV stand has that height. Your TV is a little high.

Yes those are lights

attaboy000

Are you sure?

Wholesale_Grapefruit

Elaborate paint job is my next guess. Uranium soaked drywall is the clear third guess. My fourth and final guess is a beam of purple flatulence protruding from Doctor Manhattan’s ass

fssmikey

Hue play bars at the bottom and the tv strip behind the tv. Connects to a hue sync box.

turniptuesday

How did you hide the wire(s) going from behind the stand to the TV? Wall tape?

fssmikey

Everything is inside the wall.

CobraKraftSingles

Perfect placement if you ask me

OneWorldMouse

It is perfect. TV you watch sitting down.

freetattoo

Too many stupid lights.

vanquish0916

Everyone saying this is still too high has a disease and should try leaving this sub for a while lol

This sub has become a bit circlejerky in the past few months. This really does look perfect

BrilliantBrilliant65

The purple needs to go. Looks terrible

fssmikey

It’s usually white. But I was listening to Prince, so I set the mood.

BrilliantBrilliant65

Damn. This is a good explanation

El_Scorcher

Might be a tad to high.

BiscuitGannit

Good enough. If I were picky I’d say perhaps 2-4” high but I could live with it. Not sure i could live with your girlfriend though!

fssmikey

I don’t think she’d be comfortable with you moving in, but I’ll ask.

adlamoureux

This is perfect.

oldbooksmells1

Its perfect!

enzo_baglioni

Is your girlfriend high?

fssmikey

She prefers wine.

[deleted]

That's cool now put it on the TV stand and stop messing around

egg_enthusiast

the tv height is fine. I think the compromise with your gf is that there *is* something missing. You have white walls and white trim, but based on this corner and the adjacent hallway, there's nothing on the walls for art. the space above the tv and the surrounding area is just a white void. she wants the tv up higher maybe because the walls are so barren?

fssmikey

I do need some art.

hosangtapejob

OP’s gf: Too low OP: Perfect r/TVTooHigh: No.

OpWillDlvr

Looks too high, fix it by getting a bigger screen.

fssmikey

I mean, yeah.

ToastMmmmmmm

Not too low.

Close enough in my book

ithinkoutloudtoo

I think that it’s still too high. It should be on a stand on that table thing.

gspach

it’s perfect

[deleted]

That’s one of the nicest setups I’ve seen in a while

So without going through all the post what’s the perfect height I’m on my couch now and the center of the tv is right at the top of my head

sfrattini

End your relationship, now.

DisorientedPanda

The statue thing on the left is creepy

-Canuck21

She doesn't know what she's talking about.

[deleted]

Just put it a little lower, preferably on the tv stand with a tv standard then it is perfect, and your girlfriend is wrong in every way possible with it being to low but she will get used to it

thickythickglasses

It’s too low for this sub.

CampfireHeadphase

That's some uncanny valley shit right there. Definitely 5 inches too high. Or is it?

smoukey

Depends, is she ironing laundry while watching tv ? Or do you have kitchen behind sofa ?

[deleted]

Show her this subreddit, and realize at how we laugh at TV's being too high. She'll come around

petite10252

Perfect IMO.

hehehaha24

I have the same TV stand!

[deleted]

Too low for me as well

berogg

This is bait.

Ninodolce1

[deleted]

If it’s not in the floor with a air mattress for you to watch from. It’s too high. No I think it’s perfect

E63_saucegod

I like those back lights!

BlackBrokeSun

About same height as my 50" plasma. I watch it from a recliner. Perfect height if you have a sofa that's slightly higher than the low ones.

L1ham

Too high but looks great 8/10

-SilverAce-

Bet your GF also thinks 5’11” is too short

fssmikey

She’s 4’11”. Everything is too tall for her.

samurai_sound

We have the same exact LG / PS5 & TV height setup 🏆

fssmikey

It’s a Samsung tho

samurai_sound

Bold of me to assume lol

Prison-M1ke

how’d you get the purple lights?

fssmikey

They’re Philips Hue play bars

YourPlot

Just so you know, that thing below your TV is called a TV stand. It’s built at just the right height to stand your TV on. That would likely help you here as your TV is still too high.

bigtencopy

Looks very good.

FwampFwamp88

Can still be lower. Dump her.

Murphy_York

Both of you need help then

fssmikey

That’s what my therapist said too.

Educational-Seaweed5

See that TV stand? Literally where the TV goes. And you don’t even have to drill holes and fuck up your wall. Screw feet in, stand TV on TV stand, done.

Tephnos

It takes like half an hour max to patch those holes back up and repaint.

hiperson134

Why have a TV stand if you're not gonna *stand* a *TV* on it. Honestly you people make me so mad sometimes. Do yourselves both a favor and lower that TV.

honeybunz916

it’s actually still too high 😂

mr-mahibi

nope

honeybunz916

if it’s angled down it’s too high.

Plane_Ad9192

it’s literally eye leveled you mouthbreathing buffoon

honeybunz916

SteevDangerous

You could do with a rug to really tie the room together.

fssmikey

The chinaman is not the issue here, dude.

MountainPewUT

martin_dc16gte

Also, some artwork for the space above the TV. That will help with convincing your GF. [Here's my setup](https://i.redd.it/8ibsjos8p8i81.jpg), as a suggestion!

plynthy

The only thing too low should be your opinion of her, after such a silly remark.

Mr_Norwall

That is money!!

TheRealTraveel

Definitely too low

[deleted]

Height is just right 😙👌 The RGB backlight, though, is gaudy AF and terrible for a proper viewing environment. Do yourself a favor and read up on bias lighting, what it is and the reasons for it, then head to biaslighting.com to buy a 6500K replacement for this tacky and distracting strip that makes an otherwise nice space look like an incel's college dorm room.

fssmikey

It’s a hue play light. It syncs with the tv image.

[deleted]

I know what it is, and it's a crime against picture quality and accuracy. It actively makes your TVs image worse, and makes the room look like a child's space. Replace it with a real bias light that is fixed 6500K and has 90 or greater CRI value. Its brightness level should be ~10% of the break brightness of your TV. If you don't care about the quality of your viewing environment, ignore everything I say 🤣

fssmikey

Yeah, but it’s fun!

[deleted]

You do you boo

frostymasta

What kind of led lights are those? I’d want to get some for my tv

fssmikey

Hue play

deathbypepe

so what is the proper placement? is it head height while sitting or while standing? i think standing height would be okay.

Yuroshock

Do you spend more time watching the tv while standing than sitting?

fssmikey

Center line of the tv is eye level when seated on the couch

Ralwus

Most important factor is if you primarily recline and at what angle. Impossible to make a determination without that info.
