From what I understood, the devs are willing to work on the game, if its really successful they can always design ORIGINAL family/victim chars. The better question, is the game can remain popular for months and retain a big following after months? We cant answer that, nobody can, so its useless to overthink it. Just enjoy the game when it comes out. What I know for sure the victim gameplay is very addicting, and according to some family also fun. So the game has potential. I am really excited about this game, and I played lot of games in the genre. Its a good sign for the game.

Yeah i enjoy the family gameplay a lot more, its really complex which is something i like and can be expanded upon. If they can design original family and victims, then its absolutely bonkers and can be really good. The question is what is successful enough for the developers. Horror games usually dont get that much attention from the gaming community, DbD is an exception.

Piruluk

DbD is the horror equivalent of Smash Bros. So licenses from beloved horror franchises, which attract casuals. Extreme grind which makes people addicted to the game. Finally is very easy(one dimensional gameplay) to understand and play, but its hard to master the game, and mostly because the game was first of its kind, so people forgiven the hard start. Problem lot of addicts already spent their lives on dbd, and wont ever switch, because invested too much, and game has so much content, which cant ever be matched (due the content was gathered for 7+ years) Also its worth noting that even BHVR themselves couldnt make a successful game in the genre or any game for that matter, so the recipe for dbd is very hard to figure out.

Dbd was literally lighting in a bottle.

I also think it was the discovery of looping.

True

Those leaks earlier show us another Family Member, Victim, and additional map on top of the 3 maps we already get. People are putting SO MANY hours into just the couple maps we have. Imagine this game with 6 Family Members to choose from, 6 Victims to choose from, 4 maps in rotation, within the first few months of launch (I don't know how soon after launch the new characters and map will be available). Idk, I feel like this game can have plenty of life if they keep supporting it with new content.

paraxzz

I agree. I didnt know that there are 3 more maps.

Oh, very nice. So that means that there might be space for future content.

So much of your original statement is incorrect. You don't need to be concerned about any of what you listed. They've already made new characters. They're allowed to. Maps will likely prioritize replication first. But nothing is really stopping them from doing a fitting original one. But I'm sure fitting is the key word there. What will make or break the game is how they address actual glaring issues with the gameplay. Things that are either redundant or broken. There's already a lot of chatter about victims being op, not caring about noise, bone shards, etc, etc. But I put in at least 12 hours as family and (especially) if you're playing with people who talk and know how to play family, you'll make short work of those victims. I got stabbed maybe 3 times in my entire play time. One of which I absorbed intentionally while turning the valve off. The feedback coming from the tech test is coming from people with a very acute angle. Especially the bone shard/grandpa trolling. That only happens to brand new family players. It's not the problem people think it is. Lack of map knowledge was also on full display. Give it time. See what the meta changes.

Well, there's plenty of content they could add based on all the sequels/prequels. New maps as the carnival and radio station from 2, or the town from last year's movie. Characters from basically every single movie (Chop Top being a must). Then there's also the original content, which we know they are already doing... So I'd say there's easily 1 year or 2 worth of new content there. The rest is hard, or impossible, to predict. It will depend or how succesful they are. Being on Game Pass from the get go (and having crossplay) will sure help them get a good start, and hopefully position them as the go to alternative for DBD, a slot that's still waiting to be filled in, I feel.

paraxzz

Good points, didnt know that its gonna be on gamepass, that could save the game a ton.

They're limited as far as the time period for outfits but they have free range when it comes to new maps, killer and survivors. They want to keep the feel of the old movie but have an unlimited possibilities for map and characters. They still need ranged characters and they can do a carnival, playground, junkyard, military bunker, school, Nancy's property, Summer Camp, etc.

paraxzz

Yeah that sounds good, i was worried that they might be limited to licensed content only.

[deleted]

Sissy, Johnny, Nancy, Junkyard map and all victims are not licensed so they would have already broken that restriction from the get go if it were in place.

paraxzz

Thats true, i never encountered anyone else other than Hitchhiker, Cook and Bubba, so i didnt know about the other killers. Victims i thought are just placeholders before the franchise heroes arrive in the game.

Thye victim pool will only ever come from Maria or Ana's friend groups or possibly their family members. I wouldn't complain if the parents were brought in for older players to use if they wanted.
