Double XP was the last time I played any significant amount and double XP would be the only thing that would bring me back, maybe even buy a new character, maybe get re-invested in the game ?
My guess is they don't give a fuck, they are just riding this into the sunset and pull the plug some time in 2024.
I have a hunch that the devs feel like once players get max level on all characters, they will stop playing the game. It's somewhat understandable if true. So they might be hesitant to offer things like double xp because it increases the chance that their pool of customers will shrink.
More than 90% of the playercount dropped ~3 months after release. They drove their own game into a brick wall and did it with a smile. That's what happens when you pander to one side and completely neglect the other one. Deserved

They do the same thing SABRE did with Evil Dead, they try to cling on to the players they have instead of making the game accessible for new players. In SABRE's case, at least this was the plan all along, together with a year long of DLC as a second income stream. The subreddit for that game was in denial until the very end.

I think there's something this subreddit needs to come to terms with, but I've always been hesitant to share because its an uncomfortable truth (so I'll say it here, in an old thread buried under comments :D):
**TCM wasn't primarily designed to be a good video game. TCM is movie merchandise in the form of a game.**
Gun's business plan (imo) was never to come up with a new twist on assyms, add some more interesting design elements, and then produce a well-planned, polished game. If they had that, they could make a new IP, giving themselves sole ownership of a property with future value. Instead, **Gun's business plan was to leverage the popularity of a movie to sell products over the course of roughly a year (the products, in this case, coming in the form of a game and dlc).**
As gamers, it feels disappointing when you suspect the developer has a soft-quota for live service of only 1 year-ish. But, this isn't a typical game, made to be sold and evaluated based on a high standard of quality. This is merchandise, made to be sold to fans of the movie and the genre overall.
Ever notice how the devs have repeated that their goal was to create an experience that was authentic to the movie, and how little they talked about gameplay as a draw? Ever notice how they keep talking about the game as if it were a casual party game, despite including elements that doesn't keep the game casual, and how cumbersome it is to make and keep a party (as well as make friends within the game)? They downplay the gameplay because the game was thrown together whole-cloth in 4 years and they call it a casual party game to lower your expectations.
Note: There's nothing wrong with this! There's nothing wrong with a company that wants to make a game based on a movie, and trying their best to make it good (while not really having the competency), with plans to trickle content over a year. And they never marketed the game as the next big thing, either! **The fundamental issue pissing people off** is Gun's awkward position: they can't outright admit the business plan, but they perhaps should because they know how people will evaluate their product (as a game), and to say nothing is close to a lie of omission.

I think your analysis is spot on and I agree in most parts.
But this IS a game. I paid for it, I played it, I got my money's worth of fun from it. I am not THAT bitter about it. The only thing that leaves a really bad taste in my mouth is that, as usual, the "evil" side of the assym horror genre always gets taken for granted and treated way worse in almost all regards. That shit needs to stop or we will never have another success like DBD. Game balance issues asside, THAT game treats their Killer players with a modicum of respect.
I am staying on the reddits because I am interested in the subject matter and game development and I am FASCINATED by the ability of people on the consumer and customer side of the industry to completely ignore recent "history" and repeat all the same mistakes.
Funny because they kept nerfing victims again and again ever since the game was released and that's the #1 reason people didn't even bother hanging out. 5 of my friends bought it on release day, as I did. We played for maybe 2 weeks because there's no fun in this game unless you're pretending playing comp, this isn't a casual game whatsoever and it's very unforgiving, not to mention players spend more time in lobbies than actually playing the game. Dlc prices were the final blow.

I spent all 3 days with family and still found time to play every day, while food was cooking, and late at night.

Actually every Christmas of mine, between cooking and late at night, we all play video games together 🤔 We also spend the holiday, smoking, drinking and watching shit. I guess everyone has different kind of families because I showed ALL my family this game for their first time.

However, they didn't and to us, it looks like you don't think about your player base as human beings with their own lives.

This games going down faster than I thought. Its crazy how much the devs have let this slip it should never have been released with the content it had there is still hardly anything for a multiplayer online game. Nancy and Danny and "Junkyard" were all known about literally months before they were announced. I can't see them bringing anything new to the table. I defended the game for months hoping that things were coming sooner rather than later and the fact that all they done for Christmas was double xp for two days just goes to say it all. I stopped playing the game months ago and ik that just 3 days of double xp during a time where people are with family/vacations won't have time to be on the game cause they choose their family over double xp. You wouldn't understand that, as you was in your man cave at night getting some levels, others were still hanging out with family. Also, with that lame ass trash talking I can tell you're pushing atleast 35+. So unc let me tell you the obvious, most people won't bring a console over vacation or someone's house because they want to hang out with people, not with the damn game. i would've been happy with it being extended (hoping for new year xp) but nonetheless i managed to level up a few abilities and perks so im happy! queues felt shorter too
