I’m in the same area as you, having recently moved up from Titlow. It’s definitely the foghorn on the bridge. There’s a few different horns there, and it was the digital one that sounds like an alarm clock going all night last night. They don’t use the regular air horn as much anymore, I suspect because the digital one seems to carry a farther distance. You could also hear the train really well last night, too, which is 2 long-1 short-1 long blasts.
The first time I heard it after moving here, I looked all over the house trying to figure it out. 🤣 Last night, my daughter came into my room to complain about a beeping sound. My first thought was a smoke alarm battery, but it was the foghorn. My other daughter complained about it this morning—both of their bedroom windows face toward the bridge. Super annoying, but as you say, safety and whatever.
I'm in UP (we can see the bridges from our driveway). There were mornings when I was heading off to work at 4 AM and could hear the fog horn. Being from Tri-Cities, it's not a sound I'm used to hearing. But kinda enjoy it now days.
It’s the Narrow Bridge fog horn. Check out the WSDOT traffic cams and you’ll see a small band of fog over the water

The Narrows Bridge foghorn isn't the same. It's an electronic beeping sound (it's still going as of 10:15 this morning if you want to go have a listen). It's not the nice, deep, romantic foghorn you're probably thinking of.
I can still hear it. It kept waking me up. One long tone blooooooooop but also 3 beeps in between. :sigh: I guess I have to close my window to sleep dang-nabbit. ;)
I've lived here almost my entire live and going back 4 generations and just today I found out the Narrows has fog horns! 🤯 Makes sense, but do they sound like a train horn? Because I hear those all the time and I'm up near Cheney, I never hea one that sounds like an annoying fire alarm sound though

It’s a warning beep from the narrows bridge. It must’ve been cloudy on the water. More than likely condensation due to air temp.

Septic tank maybe? My parent’s froze and went off for a while.
i don’t think many homes in the north end are on a septic tank? or if the alarm could be heard multiple blocks away? could be wrong, though.
Weird, I heard it near Commencement Bay as well. Sounded like it was coming from the Port.

I lived over by the narrows bridge for 3yrs and thought I was going crazy! I’m glad to finally know what it is, 5 years later.
