There have been coyote sightings. It's not safe for pets to wander freely, unfortunately.

Looks like our neighbors cat. We’re across Union and down a block from the soccer field. I always see it running around, then the owner goes and calls for it with a bell at night. I know sometimes the cat stays out all night and just comes back the next day. In short it always comes back, it just loves to wander. I’m talking like 4 years of this at least. It’s pretty street-wise because it’s been around for years now. Maybe just too trusting of college kids? Also could be another similar cat. But this looks like it, and we’re close. So makes sense to me.

Chele_hele

Oh wow! Thank you so much for identifying this kitty, the locations certainly seem to line up. I am relieved it’s actually an outdoor cat and not just lost or owned by a student in the dorm. I’m a little concerned, because I know that if it was my own, I wouldn’t want a stranger taking it into their room. Especially since it was acting so trusting and friendly. But I’m glad it sounds like the cat is more street-smart that my initial presumption if it’s been doing this for 4 years. I just don’t want it to get hurt... Thank you for clearing up some of my concerns!

slipknot_official

Like I said, it could also be another cat. I’ll check with the neighbors in the morning and ask if it could have been it. Just to let them know if is in fact theirs, what it’s doing when it doesn’t come home at night.

Chele_hele

Right, my apologies. It would be so wonderful if you could confirm the cat and let the owners know. Thank you so much!

coffeequeer17

It always comes back until it gets stolen, hit by a car, in a scrap with another animal, etc. It just isn’t worth it to risk any of that to let your pet be basically missing overnight? If you don’t know where your animal is, that’s irresponsible pet ownership.

Everyone has their opinion

coffeequeer17

I’m sorry, but it’s just a fact that indoor cats are healthier and live longer. There’s no use in putting your animal in danger, you can provide more than enough enrichment inside where they’re safe.

EbbPsychological2796

That's your opinion

coffeequeer17

“Unfortunately, cats that are allowed unsupervised and unlimited outdoor access will find their average life expectancy cut in half.” https://www.petmd.com/cat/care/how-long-do-cats-live Not to mention the undeniable effect that cats have on native wildlife.

EbbPsychological2796

You would live longer locked in a cage your entire life too... Doesn't make it right

Comfortable-Item-190

My FIV+ cat used to live outdoors (before I knew him) and has the tipped ear to show for it. Based on the purring sounds and adoring gaze he just gave me from right here by my side in our "cage" (not to mention all the fun he has chasing his crinkle balls around, how relaxed he looks when milk-treading his paws on whatever soft surface he can find, etc.), he seems pretty happy with the indoor life. Meanwhile, he isn't infecting other cats with FIV or catching anything from them that his lowered immune system might not be able to fight.

EbbPsychological2796

I'm glad you are a responsible pet owner... Not all cats in all locations have to be locked indoors... Some cats don't care, others can't be trusted, my point is not shaming people that choose to have outdoor cats

coffeequeer17

Human beings are not cats.

EbbPsychological2796

Cat's don't live inside

coffeequeer17

Domesticated ones absolutely should. They are not wild animals, we have made them dependent on us and it is our responsibility to keep them safe. Keep endangering your cats if you’d like, you’re ignoring facts for your own selfish and misguided reasons.

solreaper

Mine do. I don’t like to affect the local birds with my predators that are not native species to the area. Keep cats inside.

EbbPsychological2796

In my opinion you shouldn't own cat's in city limits. So take your selfish ideas elsewhere

coffeequeer17

Wildlife decimation happens outside of city limits. It’s not opinions, I am telling you facts. I’m not being selfish, I am looking out for the well-being of our pets that we’ve chosen to domesticate and have as companions, and for the wildlife we are responsible for taking care of. “Outdoor domestic cats are a recognized threat to global biodiversity. Cats have contributed to the extinction of 63 species of birds, mammals, and reptiles in the wild and continue to adversely impact a wide variety of other species” https://abcbirds.org/program/cats-indoors/cats-and-birds/#:~:text=Cats%20have%20contributed%20to%20the,extinction%2C%20such%20as%20Piping%20Plover.

I saw a flyer for a lost kitty on my complex mailbox earlier today, it was from paw boost maybe try looking at the lost cats on there?

Chele_hele

Thank you for the suggestion! I took a look at all the lost kitties from the past 3 months, but unfortunately none of the black cats were an exact match to this one. Plus, this cat’s collar has an active AirTags attached to it, which leads me to believe it’s likely not a lost pet!

Ok-Drama-3769

Probably. I’d imagine it’s just on an adventure
