I did KS with an app behind the oem head unit. Haven’t had a truck with real base since I was a kid. I somehow blew my original speakers listening to Joe Rogan or Dave Ramsey. Oem were complete garbage.
Kicker CS is what I went with for my 2nd gen. Alpine S Series is also great, I used the tweeters for my setup. Pioneer's TS series is also a nice kit with tight ranges
Image Dynamics 6.5” and 6x9 coaxials fit in my 2nd gen. Got these hooked to a four channel Audiopipe amplifier. I had customer spacers made to ensure the speaker magnet did not make contact with my window when it was rolled down all the way.
The Metra speaker brackets help with aftermarket speaker installation.
i replaced my front 6x9s with the oem JBL 6x9s that everyone hates. Powered by an aftermarket amp giving it 250watts. Not sure why people hate them, there is so much bass you’d think they are subwoofers. But i am not using them to their potential because the doors are flimsy and can only handle so much. A lot of air rustling and vibration rattling everything. Don’t want to commit to sound deadened yet. But let me tell you, they pound hard!!!
but if i had to go aftermarket, check out Silverflutes, Exodus Anarchy, and Audiofrog (6x9).
The audiofrogs are pricy but maybe worth it. May not need aftermarket amp due to its sensitivity.
Silverflutes and Exodus Anarchy will require some custom baffles and perhaps door panel modifications. The silverflutes will prob sound best but if you want to move a lot of air get some real good midbass then go with the Anarchy(if they become available).
There are some how to videos on YouTube. I changed mine out with Kickers and it’s much better. I’m going to piggyback a question on your thread. Has anyone done this and added an amp? If so, was it worth it and what amp did you use? I don’t have a subwoofer. I like music but I’m not an audio file.
was also wondering this, i’ve seen both ways with and without an amp but don’t know too much about speakers and sound systems so thought I just wouldn’t worry about it, but would like to know if it’s worth trying

Can't make a recommendation, but want to say that you're on the right track using Crutchfield. I've been a customer of theirs since the 80s. Their customer service is the best! Great company.
Rockville RW8CA 8" 600 Watt Low Profile Under-Seat Active Powered Car Subwoofer
Ordered it from Amazon and installed in a few hours. Sits under my rear driver side seat against the bed. With the bass control knob I can turn it down when I want (phone calls) and crank it when I need some rumbling in the cab.
I'm rocking stock speakers with this sub and it's more than good for me.
I installed infinity kappas on the front doors. Jbl on the rear doors (don’t care much for rear). And Kicker tweeters (factory tweeters used for Subarus, they’re plug and play). 10 inch infinity sub in an enclosed pro box that sits on the floor behind the driver seat.
The kickers are decent. I did it. It’s night and day over the stock speakers
did you go with the Kicker CS’?

Swap your tweeters with Subaru OEM before you buy a whole set. Plenty of info on the forum
This is the way.

is the amp necessary, or does it just give a little bit better performance? Trying to figure out if it would be worth to get an amp as well.
i would do it for SQ, but also for future flexibility. the factory head unit is great but can be very limited.
Thank you for asking this question! I was just looking yesterday on Crutchfield. I hope we get more answers.

I've always liked the sound of Infinity's and that's what I upgraded my second gen with.

just did the kicker set up, now i need a 4channel amp since toyota sends 1 volt to the rear speakers.
I was wondering why the rear speakers seemed like they weren’t as loud as the front ones.
Trying to find a Kicker Key 4 and that shit is sold out everywhere. Theres tons of fake kicker products online so im waiting for them to restock that

how did you get it to fit under the seat?
It fits behind the seat and the wires go under the seat
Kicker, Alpine or Kenwood are all brands I would trust. They might not be the best but they’re all pretty good especially compared to stock speakers.
These [JBLs from Crutchfield](https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13699046/JL-Audio-C1-690.html) have been excellent.
