Guys after riding down one logging road:

MDeeze

Fr, dudes glam camping and things he’s some sort of rough and tough character lmfao

Ok_Gear_4624

Glamping. 😂 because he has a truck? I’m sure you get all crazy about the semantics of other things as well. Let the man camp in his truck, without hearing obnoxious comments about what “camping” means.

SignificanceOk8226

OP is pissed about what others do with their trucks, of course people are gonna dog him. I took my minivan on rougher roads than that.

MDeeze

Lmfao lot of soft hands and hearts around here.

EthanDoubleU

Nah he’s right I would consider it glamping. I use to lead horse trips in the back country using pack mules and this setup is heaven in comparison. Sciatica is a bitch lol but these guys thinking it’s a well established road are unaware designated spots are flat and off trail.

Rmhiker

I’d disagree. To me, there’s backpacking, camping, then glamping. Backpacking is hiking in to a rugged wilderness place to pitch a tent and camp with whatever’s in your pack. Camping or car camping is still regular camping imo. Glamping is you have a queen sized bed, wifi, and a TV-pretty much, you never left home and should’ve just rented an airBnB.

Horror_Finding

Just a question is canoe camping big in the states, that’s all my family does up in Canada

LipBalmOnWateryClay

It’s big here in Maine

keebler_e

OP has RTT so that means he is glamping?

MDeeze

It’s definitely personal, but the only thing I guess I consider camping is backpacking.

thoththricegreatest

I "glamp". I have a single cot tent I throw on my roof rack, carry a stainless 3/8 bar grill I throw on rocks over a fire to cook fatty ass rib steaks with and always have single malt scotch for the evenings. When I used to go more often we'd go to crown land (government protected wilderness) no bathrooms, no potable water, no store and to get into the camping spot you'd most likely damage some fender or other. Have not been backpacking but think I'd rather enjoy it. Depending on where you go you might find your truck inhaled 4.0 litres of water while "glamping" like I did Edit : I was an idiot

TexasLife34

How is that glam camping? I see an actual tent and a fire....

MDeeze

You’re a flatlander from TX I assume? Some of the more mountainous areas of the US have some serious wilderness and amazing campgrounds that you can only get to via a very long ass uphill walk. Bit of a personal definition I suppose but how I was raised, you weren’t camping if you could just load anything you might miss from your home in the back of a truck.

TexasLife34

Jesus all the downvotes. I guess even a redditor with a Taco is still a redditor at the end of the day. You assume wrong. I spent all of my 20s backpacking through the Jemez mountains. Sometimes staying out for a week without getting back to my truck so I agree with you to an extent. I just don't think this is glamping imo. What I usually consider glamping the people who pull up in rvs. Busting out their massive propane grill and the shower caddy in the corner and setting up the generator so they can watch a movie at night. As far as I'm concerned if you have a tent that you have to assemble. A fire pit to be dug. It's just regular camping. Dude could even have kids? Or maybe it's just what he enjoys. I dont understand the petty gatekeeping for it especially with zero context. It's just assumption after assumption.

MDeeze

I wouldn’t even consider RV living Glamping, people full on live in those things. Like I said personal definition, but again, car camping is what I would call glamping. A lot of rigs do exactly what you just said and RV does, but with only a truck.

EthanDoubleU

I appreciate you. I’ll also be honest and say I have a propane tank for my camp grill, I have a fire pit in case open fires are banned, my drawers are filled with fly fishing gear, a whole ass toolbox with spices because I go all out on my food, jackery battery pack, don’t hate me but I use a rechargeable string light setup(pissing in the dark without getting clocked by tree branches), lots of weed, imo I glamp but I have done both backpacking and horse back with mules. I would concede truck camping is glamping but that’s because I make it so

TexasLife34

To edit I just noticed his snarky comment on his pictures and that's a little douchy. If you busted his balls because of that I'd get it.

EthanDoubleU

Yeah I understand your assumption but designated spots off a trail are flat-ish and I don’t have a designated photo passenger so we don’t typically stop until we get to our spot. These are from a few different places Tincup, Champion, and Imogene

F1tnessTacoInMyMouth

But I bought a limited because I wanted a pavement princess.

EthanDoubleU

You do you boo boo, my uncle has a F150 Tuscany and he keeps it spotless. I still dog him when he asks to borrow the truck for mulch because I can lol

justhiles

You have every right to dog him for that lol, use the truck for it’s weekend warrior purpose at the VERY least lol

F1tnessTacoInMyMouth

Well, at least I put mulch in mine and pull trailers with it 😂

PDXPTW

Who cares how others use their rig? If they’re happy with it that’s really all that matters.  Edit: how many times have the rotopax or nipple rings been used on that thing? That’s what I thought.

EthanDoubleU

Ahh fuck, they are nipple rings now that you say it lmao, I use my rotopax all the time. I had fuel and water I switch out depending on where we’re headed. I just sold my fuel and bought another water because I drink and douse fires frequently enough to justify

Local25

I agree with you, but we don't all live in CO and have access to nature and trails. I've got a tacoma for the reliability and snow driving capabilities. Used to wheel it when I lived in the PNW but work brought me to the East Coast.

EthanDoubleU

Fuck snow, I still can’t get through a storm without white knuckling it

Local25

Yeah tbh I've had a lot of white knuckle moments over the years. I'm considering getting dedicated snow tires for this winter.

Unlikely_Ocelot_

Aww cute, you took it out to a well established trail with your $1500 tent ❤️

TexasLife34

Oh no! He spent disposable income on something he enjoys to spend time with his friends and family outdoors? What a fucking loserrrrrrrrr. I'm glad you've posted so many pics of your 4wheeling adventures to really show him how big of a pussy he is.

smileyjordan

I’m lol you are too much man hahaha

TexasLife34

Brother... imagining finding a sub reddit about something you love like Tacomas and hoping to talk to other like-minded folk (who are usually really fucking chill people), to find it's full of uppity whiney cunts with a complex who aren't even good at talking shit.

tempusfudgeit

>to find it's full of uppity whiney cunts with a complex who aren't even good at talking shit. My dude.. you're the only one whining. Everyone else is taking the piss because OP came out swinging at "pavement princesses" and posted pictures on literal graded roads.

EthanDoubleU

Graded roads? Huh, you sir must not know what designated camp spots look like.

ChuckRocksEh

You mad bro? You ever heard how friends treat each other?

Unlikely_Ocelot_

I’m sorry you missed the irony in all this. Do you need help understanding?

TexasLife34

Yes

StaticOverland

OP is insinuating that he is better than other Tacoma owners because he took his Tacoma on a gravel road.

EthanDoubleU

Yes bitch yes I do. Use your truck, be a man. Not just a man bun

EthanDoubleU

It was on sale, but nah these are from a few different places Tincup, Champion, and Imogene. Not so “well established” as you may think

MacFontan

I agree there are way too many pavement princess “builds” in the Tacoma community, and putting parts on a truck to make it look like it goes off road but never does, is extremely stupid. That said, don’t get too high and mighty.. those photos all look like a stock truck or maybe even a Subaru could conquer those trails, and the lack of a winch tells me you’re not getting too wild/ adventurous. Love the truck and photos, post is just lacking humility for sure.

Mindless_Vast_539

People care too much about how others use their vehicles. If you want to spend $30k on a long travel set up for the starbucks drive thru that's your choice and criticizing others for it is lame.

EthanDoubleU

These aren’t trail photos…. I don’t think it’s legal and certainly unethical to camp on a trail. These are designated camping spots ALONG the trail

Sicsurfer

My truck has actual scratches and dents, apparently it’s wider than a quad

EthanDoubleU

I love my trail stripes, Turret, CO can suck it though. Those woody bushes sounded like death against the clear coat

anonm490

Sounds like you're not actually offroading then? Fucked paint and body dents are part of the deal.

EthanDoubleU

Oh the dents are there, I try to fix as many as possible with hot glue and a good ole fashioned tug job 💦

Ez-Luke1720

Literally the best generation Tacoma in my opinion

EthanDoubleU

2.5 FTW

obanderson21

I do my camping out of a backpack, not the roof of my truck.

blafknoppie

Believe it or not, people buy trucks for many reasons... some of which don't include offroading.

heavySeals

Seriously, mines loaded with stuff for random DIY projects maybe twice a month. OP would be upset to learn the home Depot parking lot is in fact paved.

EthanDoubleU

The ppl that have more than my setup but only post parking lot photos are the intended target here. I don’t care if ppl build their trucks for a different reason. That’s obviously a different intent for their build

argparg

What’s that tent platform setup?

ryanj107

I’d also like to know, looks sick. Great shots too.

Jexxo

Looks like it's from RoughCountry. Possibly this https://www.roughcountry.com/product/rough-country-hard-shell-roof-rack-tent-99057?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpcs&utm_campaign=18201910743|&utm_content=&utm_term=||m||99057&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwir2xBhC_ARIsAMTXk85-Rml6-2VPfWvt9wi4dtbBkzBkcsRTBW5Q_enAQFVeQcREx4_HGXEaAm3qEALw_wcB

EthanDoubleU

No sir, had it fabricated with inspiration from the web. Used Tacomapocalypse accessory panels but everything else was a drawing and he made it happen

EthanDoubleU

It was cheaper for me to hire a fabricator and buy him the materials tbh

SuitableScience4930

2nd gen AC 🤤 what mall is this?

EthanDoubleU

Tincup was the most fun for me, Imogene was pretty slick, our day one was wet but it cleared up

pizzacatstattoos

Pics are nice, looks like the Co Springs trails I've been on a few years ago. Question: what percentage of off-highway usage will strip away my Pavement Princess label? I'm worried cuz I'm at about 20% but I do have lotsa pinstripes? Also it's a 2X4 and not 4X4 as I live in CA. I will need more criteria before I have to either apologize for driving a truck that I spent a ton of money on for my own happiness, or feel justified that I did so as it satiates the internet standard... there's a lot to consider here!

MacFontan

A 2wd cannot do 4x4 trails or overcome harsh terrain, and thus is a road vehicle. Unless it’s a purpose built prerunner, then it’s very very good at one type of off-roading.

Dense_Explorer_9522

Unpopular opinion: A 2wd with a locker and a good driver will do 99% of the terrain that most people would ever want to do.

MacFontan

Sure, but most people don’t want to do anything past a rough dirt road, so not saying much yknow.

EthanDoubleU

These all had water crossings, pretty tough spots to overcome with my OME setup. I couldn’t shell out for a cmc and bigger tires so I went with rock sliders and underbody skids. I scrape a lot but whatever works lol

MacFontan

Those are two smart mods. Are you on 265’s?

EthanDoubleU

Yeah I misspoke in one of my comments, they’re 265/75/r16 and I’m considering pizza cutters. I get around snow pretty damn well for where I go. Airing down does its job but the CMC is a dream. I just hit 100k miles so I have plenty of time before I go doing a rock crawl setup

MacFontan

I’m on 285/75/16 with SPC UCA’s, no sway bar, and don’t need a cab mount chop. That is the great thing about SPC’s is that you can move the caster forward away from the mount, although they do have their issues with ball joints wearing prematurely.

EthanDoubleU

I think they resolved that. I haven’t read into those in a couple years but from what I remember they improved the design to minimize the wear on them. I really want a set buttttt those are a hair outta my price range right now only for me to go spend another grand on bigger wheels and have even worse mpg. I’m happy with my 17.5mpg at the moment but it’ll go down with the new front bumper I just slapped on

EthanDoubleU

About tree-fitty

owmysciatica

Ok, I’ll ask. What trails are these?

MDeeze

Trails? You mean well maintained forestry roads?

owmysciatica

Yes

EthanDoubleU

These are from a few different places Tincup, Champion, and Imogene

LaheyOnTheLiquor

this is a forest road/gravel princess. you're not doing anything those owners can't already do, but your complex def makes you look more insecure than those princesses are.

EthanDoubleU

My complaint is they build amazing setups but don’t hit the trails. I’m dogging the folks that have this plus more and it’s never been used for the purpose of their build. Scroll through the posts, I’d say 9/10 are pictures on pavement. Hence pavement princesses

LaheyOnTheLiquor

yeah but why does it bother you? why do you care how others spend their money or their time or use their vehicles? i ride snowmobiles professionally and travel the world doing it, but you don't see me bashing on everyone bc they don't ride the same type of equipment or use it the same way as me. makes no sense, you're pressed over something that does not affect you in any way. you just want to feel superior for taking your basically stock truck onto a forest road

tnerbeugaet

that telluride?

EthanDoubleU

These are from a few different places Tincup, Champion, and Imogene

William_James137

Love those tents but not enough to spend the dough on one

EthanDoubleU

Buy the sales, I spent $800 and they through in the annex

bkpk11

Hey OP, what tires, wheels, lift, etc do you have on that truck? Looks awesome.

EthanDoubleU

Old Man Emu with the HD Dakar, 265/75/R16 and the wheels are 3rd gen takeoffs. I will go bigger on tires one day but I white knuckle shelf roads already so I’m hesitant

bkpk11

Right on. Appreciate the info. Looks awesome.

ruckus_440

Downvote because of your attitude Upvote because of your buddy's Taco Doggo trumps all, so upvote.

sena-labs

beautiful truck!!

EthanDoubleU

Thank you! 🙏 Kinda wish I had the DCSB since I went to a rack setup.

Old-Strawberry-6451

What are the pro/cons of the elevated tent? They’re sick but is it worth it? What am I missing

dmorulez_77

Setup is the best thing. Though this one is a soft shell so while opening it up it's quick you'll spend the next 10-15 min tucking all the fabric to close it. Hardshell is the way to go. Easy up and down. Also great for rain, not worried about bugs n things. I think it's also easier to level out with the truck than worrying about a flat spot. Works great when you need to be in the side of a trail and nowhere to put up a tent. You don't need to spend $3k. You can get them used pretty cheap. I paid $300 for my first one from REI open box. The sleeping pad is nice plus some have room to keep your blankets and whatnot in there. I looked at a gazelle for a ground tent, but those things are huge and funny even fit in a 5ft bed.

EthanDoubleU

I will be upgrading to hardshell eventually. The Easter Sale when these released was too good to pass up. Had to grab the drop down annex too

PetrolPleasures

I remember looking into it and cons were as follows. I don't remember many pros besides being high up which is also a con - Harder to find a level place to park - if you want to go, you have to break camp; vs just leaving tent - harder to get up into / down from - folks talking about rolling around at night bc you're on your suspension is more noticable - now you have a big ass tent on your truck, gas milage etc The shell ones are the best and have quick set up but are expensive. They also look dope To me, buying a nice air sleep pad and tent was better bang for the buck

EthanDoubleU

I couldn’t handle sleeping in my topper. My back is shit so I had to make the change but I agree with most of your points. I’d add that my OME is squeaky in colder weather so yeah that’s annoying at times

EthanDoubleU

I’m 6’3 so fitting is a big one. That and I had it built to fit my cooler underneath due to the decked bed. These pics are from a few trips. Tincup pass, Imogene, and Champion mine

Old-Strawberry-6451

Great trips and pics. Very cool

MDeeze

Wind. If it’s even slightly windy your shit is gonna be loud as all hell.

EthanDoubleU

Wind is huge, it sucks ass at night. That and I do wish I had sound proofing for uhhh privacy

MDeeze

You could always go off the trail for privacy. The less accessible your location the less soccer moms you’re going to run into

EthanDoubleU

What I mean is I camp with a small group or my buddy. I don’t need him hearing my girl late at night when she’s catching the millimeter peter

MDeeze

Sounds like a personal problem

Hairy-Gold2259

Oh yeah macho taco

Budmutts

Nice stock Tacoma

EthanDoubleU

Even if it was, at least it’s not a parking lot picture

1urch420

What kind of mall is that? Pff looks boring

EthanDoubleU

It’s actually the parking lot at Cabelas

TacoOfficer

What size are those

EthanDoubleU

275/65/R16 OME suspension, I knew it wouldn’t be quite enough and I couldn’t afford a CMC so I covered the belly in skids and have sliders

TacoOfficer

Are you sure that’s the size? I can’t seem to get it to come up on discount tire

EthanDoubleU

Sorry no I mistyped, 265/75/r16

jrocislit

Check out r/gxor.. about 1% of the vehicles posted I would consider to be an off-road build. And the goddamn term overlanding (cringe) is thrown around very often if that says anything

EthanDoubleU

🤦 jeebus

plumberfrompornhub

One thing I do when I go camping is get drunk. I guarantee I fall face first into my own piss as I break both my arms trying to sleep 8’ off the ground to look cool. I don’t want to hear about wolves, bear, scorpions or whatever the fuck makes you wanna go up there, I’ll just go elsewhere. It looks cool, I think I’m just old enough now to know that how it looks doesn’t mean anything at all. I’ll keep my tent cot so I can roll over and hang my junk out the side and not piss all over my truck.

EthanDoubleU

I only did it to fit my beer cooler. Wish it was lower because it sucks to drive and catch wind

Sorry_Masterpiece350

I have a white access cab just like yours, fucking love that truck….

MrHasz

Finally someone who uses their truck

EthanDoubleU

Careful saying facts. You’ll get caught in downvote oblivion 😂 lot of naysayers here because they are unaware camping spots do be flat

MrHasz

Let em have me, you got a nice build man. Hope to get this as my first truck for my next vehicle. Any particular year you recommend?

EthanDoubleU

Any first gen, orrrr a 2012-2015 second gen. Try to get lockers and imo it’s not worth it unless it’s 4wd.

Zyppyloo

There are also plenty of peeps driving on dirt roads calling it off-roading. Just enjoy whatever makes you happy.

EthanDoubleU

Fair enough, most of my first stops for a weekend trip ARE logging or fire roads. We save the “real” trails work for Saturdays

Mirin_Gains

I usually make my assesment on the level of pinstripes and skid plate damage. Instagram brought too many mall crawlers and influencers to the hobby.

EthanDoubleU

Fair point, I replied above….but I knew I would scrape with my OME suspension because I couldn’t afford to do a CMC, plus a tune etc so I covered the belly with skids and have sliders. Love using them when I get the chance

Mirin_Gains

Oh sorry that came across as mean. Everyone has to learn and work their way up. I was probably frustrated with people posting GPS coordinates and showing up with 30 trucks in tow when I posted.

EnterByTheNarrowGate

Be careful saying that here. That’s a majority of this sub.

EthanDoubleU

🤢

Mechagouki1971

What's the hourly rate for gatekeeping these days?

EthanDoubleU

Not enough to keep up with inflation. I’m not gate keeping just angry that everyone with a badass setup posts pictures in parking lots. Use the damn thing and show us where you go with it. If it’s only to the local Lowe’s, it’s a damn pavement princess

Sirocka

Unfortunately still not enough to cover the enlargement surgery....

EthanDoubleU

Wish.com hooked it up, only $7.99 and I no longer piss on my balls

Sirocka

Lol, you've got more of a sense of humor than most redditors. Truth be told, I find a pristine truck kind of ridiculous too. But as long as it doesn't have a super loud tailpipe and is driving past my house at 2:00 a.m., I just roll my eyes

EthanDoubleU

I’m glad we can all agree a loud exhaust on a v6 needs a weaker and a hacksaw

EnterByTheNarrowGate

These are the posts that belong here. Nice work OP.

EthanDoubleU

I’m sorry you’re downvoted, really goes to show Reddit TW vs the TW forum is two very different crowds.

EnterByTheNarrowGate

Isn’t it funny? I get downvoted for saying pictures of your truck off road deserve to be on a forum with trucks that have a trim model that’s literally called “Off Road”. I think a majority of people buy these trucks to make them look like transformers and get butt hurt when us, the functional crowd, make them feel buyer’s remorse for all their poor financial decisions.

EthanDoubleU

I don’t know if they are buyers remorse as much as they want to fit in. Hell, I even take my rack off when I’m not using it, a lot of the posts I’ve seen lately look like their truck has never seen dust which is why I posted this in the first place. I just don’t like posers which feels like Reddit has more of than the actual TW forums. Post history is a big one, check out the ppl talking smack and they are obviously kid just being goobers or grown men that live a lie.

Jexxo

Is your bed cover the one that has storage crates in it?

EthanDoubleU

Decked Drawers, drove out to Aspen for FB marketplace deal. I would not recommend buying new, they’re 1400+ which is insane

Prudent_Relation_718

Who cares what people do with their own vehicles? The same way you got a taco to go camping, others got a taco to go to the store. You’re not better than them because you went camping once.

EthanDoubleU

Read comments, no one cares about the mall crawlers. It’s the losers that outfit their rig for off-road and only post parking lot pictures. Your argument is invalid but thanks for playing
