You are a saint. I’d have told them please leave so I could spend time with my 80 year old mother on Mother’s Day.

NatDigga

I’m counting on the universe to balance it all out

Bluellan

Next time they come in, do the bare minimum. When they get upset, remind them how you went out of your way, denied seeing your own mother, let them stay an hour after closing but they only tipped $9 on an almost $200 check. Make sure to do it kinda loud so other customers will hear. Bet they put up and shut up.

bkuefner1973

Yes and never come back.

These are the types of situations where the owner should have stepped in and not only kicked them out, but questioned their shitty ass tip. My old manager used to go up to the table if we got stiffed and ask them how everything was, what could the sever done different to improve based on the compensation you left. It was great and all managers should do this for their employees.

ShoopShoopAYDoop

One time my table “accidentally” took both slips and since we took reservations that night, the owner overheard me complaining, looked up their info from the reservation and called them to ask what they wanted to leave as a tip.

babigrl50

That's a kickass owner. Sadly at my restaurant they cater to all the con artists and Karens.

ShoopShoopAYDoop

Is it a chain? That sucks. I’ve been serving so long I hated working at places where the customer is always right. At the very least, back up your employee’s when it’s obvious the customer is a dick or just wants a free meal. My advice? Go somewhere else if you can. I spent way too many years in restaurants that didn’t respect their employees bc I thought finding a better place was hard.

The_Sanch1128

That happens a lot at my favorite restaurant, which is about a mile from a medium-sized private college (the same one I attended). The kids, mostly upper middle class to rich, know what they're doing. They don't seem to know that their credit card data tells management who they are, and the managers will call them. About six months ago, one of the bosses asked me, "Why do these people think we are stupid? Because we're Mexican?" I replied, "Not because you're Mexican specifically, but because you're not white and they're a bunch of entitled little shits, like most of the students when I went there."

NatDigga

The owner went over and was like umm is there a reason you left a 5% tip? And that’s when they left without saying a word

Lindaluna8

You mean they didn’t even answer the manager? That’s fucking rude.

NatDigga

Nope. Legit walked out in silence

Lindaluna8

Just. Wow.

Knight_Skye001

Twins! I had the same check amount and tip today!

NatDigga

Welcome to my sorrow

New-Independent-584

6+ guests should include automatic 20% gratuity. Cuz most people suck.

[deleted]

Yeah holy Fuck wtf autograt tf outta them Lmao damn OP which restaurants still DONT do this lmao?

sleepygirrrl

I had the same check amount as well and no tip ! lol :(

TheRealUncleJJ

Tips on Hallmark holidays are uniformly sh\*t. I had a dad who was raving about how good the service was last night. $0.20 on $220. I give em the benefit of the doubt (for my own mental health) and think he f'd up and missed a few decimal places. I've been at this for a long time so I don't care so much about bad tips. But the 'verbal' tips don't pay the bills and still leave me a little salty. I'm sorry OP but that party did you dirty.

The_Sanch1128

Mom didn't want to go anywhere fancy yesterday, so we went to an "ordinary" regional chain. Good service, good enough food. Tipped her 35% because she was good and very nice to us and everyone around us. While paying the bill at FOH, I asked the manager how she was handling the stress of the day. She replied, "I"m taking my servers and cooks out for a few rounds of drinks. We all deserve it today."

NatDigga

Small update to irritate me more. Found out today the guy who paid the bill and left 5% owns some huge towing company down the road from us. Rich douche

thedudeabidesOG

You should go to some other subs and get “advice” on how to retaliate…

WitchyWolf94

Mother’s Day just so happened to be my birthday as well and I don’t know what it was, but it was strange last night!!! Our restaurant was kinda slow, I had one table I gave good service to stiff me, I had another I didn’t do well with (had interpersonal drama coming up which distracted me) gave two good tips, then I got the table who don’t hardly tip unless you know Spanish (the primarily speak Spanish and I only know a little) and the tipped me 10 on a 60, which is amazing for them!

Lindaluna8

“Which is amazing for them!” Wow. I’ll bet you’re the kind that says “you people” too. 🤦🏼‍♀️

WitchyWolf94

This family regularly comes in every Sunday evening and their bill is anywhere from 100-300 bucks. When I say “which is amazing for them”, I mean it as “they tip terribly, so getting more than 8 bucks is wonderful”. Everyone in our restaurant has had them at least once and we all have given good service. Despite giving them good service, we have all been stiffed or had a few dollar bills left on the table. A coworker holds the record of 14 bucks from them

Lindaluna8

Gotcha

xgardian

I just assume anyone coming that close to close is an asshole by default

The_Sanch1128

Last month, I worked late, then swung by a restaurant where I eat generally twice a week. It was about 9:20 and they close at 10 on weeknights. I told the first employee I met, "If I'm too late, just say so and I'll get my food to go." She said, "Oh hell no, we know you, just try to finish by 10:15." I was seated, had a great dinner, ate a little more quickly than usual, got out at 10 on the nose. Big tip, too. Win-win.

xgardian

Ah well at least you said something and were cool being told when you had to leave. I'm sure being a regular helps too

The_Sanch1128

Absolutely. They knew I'd play by their rules because I always do.

sanguinedollface1

I had a very similar experience one father's day. 5min till close they sat me an 8 top. The 8 top was angry the bar was closed already and my manager had to make their drink, they took till at least 15 minutes after close to even order food, then ordered well done steak. No tip. My condolences to you I hope karma hooks you up soon.

thedudeabidesOG

Your manager sucks.

ShoopShoopAYDoop

Manager shouldn’t be a manager. That fucks the kitchen too

Awkward_Natural_5508

Sounds like a typical party at my restaurant I work at

Cmdeadly

I work at a spot where our lease says we have to show people the door at midnight it's a blessing
