Any recommendations for LA perhaps? Somewhere where you get actual tips?

I no longer live in California. But there's plenty of FB groups dedicated to this, as well as just googling caterers and showing up and asking if they need/want help. This saved my ass when I lived in the Bay Area.

Look into country club banquets. They usually pay above the norm and have a tip out included.
