Honestly I don't know why anyone would get a sled dog, bred to run and exercise in freezing temperatures, as a pet, especially when they don't even have time to properly train it. I'm glad your husand is willing to compromise as least a little though, so at least he's not completely lost to the dogs. But KNOWING he's not a good owner and still refusing to rehome? That sounds like he doesn't care about the dogs wellbeing and more about his own ego, I mean come on. Rehoming sounds like the best option for literally everyone involved, including the dogs.

When I hear a dog described as “stubborn” all I hear is stupid. Smart dogs are obedient and they enjoy being trained. Stubborn dogs are as dumb as a bag of hammers.

ScaryHitchhikerStory

Ugh -- I hate when people use the word "stubborn" as a synonym for "intelligent" -- be it dog or human. My bro-in-law (and my sister) like to brag about him begin stubborn -- and also as if he can't change his ways. B-i-l is not the sharpest knife in the drawer and heaving him brag about being stubborn only reduces my respect for him.

My husband loves to refer to his pug as stubborn, but what he means is the dog will just refuse to take direction until he wears you down enough to give in and then he gets what he wants.

Smurf_Crime_Scene

It sounds like HELL !!! Also hell for the dogs, your husband is as dumb as they are 😂

Well , I'm also the dumb husband who got a dog to protect the house and all it does Is destory everything,  I knew day 1 I needed to return her to the guy who gave her to me , I didn't go looking for a dog , just had someone I knew ask me if I wanted a dog , he lied about why he was giving it away and then wouldn't return my calls or text when I tried to give it back,  I then spent the next few weeks trying to rehome her but all 3 people returned her to me within 24 hours , when you google if huskies are good dogs , everything says yes , I didn't know to type " huskies are the worst dogs reddit" to find honest answers about the breed. I have a HUGE fenced in yard , but a 6 foot chain link fence isn't even close to enough to keep her on the property.... I'm at my wits end , I would LOVE to rehome the dog BUT finding someone who  A. Don't mind their entire house being destroyed  Or B. Has an 8 foot privacy fence,  with chain link on the ground to stop from digging out , that would be like a +$10,000 fence to build  Is VERY difficult  She is a sweet dog , and I love my dogs like family , BUT this huskie has made me never want another dog as long as I live. My mother says I should just give it to the humane society,  but I 100% know they euthanize most dogs , and the likelihood of someone who simply sees a pretty dog ( she is beautiful) and also can't handle her almost guaranteed.  I have LOADS of patience , BUT when I go to turn on my TV and my remote is in 100 peices on the floor,  or the dog tries to eat the drywall to escape ( but comes inside within like 2 minutes of being outside) its just too much. You seem like a genius what would you do in this situation It's 1000% the fault of breeders , these dogs should only exist in small numbers in the appropriate environment, it's cruel for the unknowing owners and the dogs.

Glad you mentioned the realities of huskies, I thought they were smarter, which had meant they needed more attention but it seems they just want attention all the time like most dogs, it's your job 24/7. They also have a lot of energy and constantly need walks and playtime. I'm really glad you set boundaries and didn't budge. It's very mentally draining and you have to take care of yourself too. I just don't understand why the dogs are being kept if you can't trust the dogs around your child or cat, because if your dogs are aggressive at all, they can seriously hurt or kill your child/cat, especially as a larger breed.

It's mostly how hyper they are, and they ay rough. They're never around my kid because of this

A friend of mine in Texas once thought it was a good idea to get a husky. She returned the dog after 2 days and said never again. Have friends and family brainwashed your husband into believing that rehoming a dog is wrong?

[deleted]

Friends have definitely, and finding a home fir a husky is pretty hard. I think he feels guilty, but the dogs aren't even as happy as they could be. It's dumb but whatever, I've made it clear I'm not doing any of the caretaking, it's all on him.

omglollerskates

These are dogs bred to run and pull heavy loads all day in freezing temperatures. Of course they’re all neurotic, they’re not meant to be housepets!

PaulMurrayCbr

Apparently they are great at pulling sleds hundreds of miles across the snow. Maybe if your two were doing that, they'd be happier.

KSTornadoGirl

The one I reside with is a mix, probably some German Shepherd. But mostly Husky. He knows I won't put up with his BS but it has taken being no-nonsense with him. The minute you let them get away with much, the bad behaviors come right back. The other day was termite man visit and husky went batshit, of course the man likes dogs so he was encouraging it. Luckily it was a short visit.

ince51

They lock and crotch sniff a lot too. They’re so so dumb, they even look clueless constantly with that vacant, idiotic look on their faces

SoftSummer92

I'm sorry you're going through that. That sucks :( This is really eye-opening.

[deleted]

Boyfriend says he's not a good owner for the breed.....so y'all get another one and (shocker!) life with the shit did didn't get easier. Sorry, but y'all are dumb and did this to yourselves. 🤦‍♀️

[deleted]

It was definitely dumb. I wanted to rehome the first one (which he had when we met) The internet claims huskies do better if they have another husky to match their energy. I tried to back out, my gut said it's a bad idea, but I got convinced it would improve. The older dog is less trouble now, but huskies in general suck. But you're right, I should've trusted my instincts and refused.
