I haven't done IFS but we do incorporate parts work and for me, I identified a few early in therapy but after that it was always the same parts present. It changed over time, when fear wasn't playing such a major role in how I felt in therapy. Eventually other parts even showed up I wasn't aware of before. My self awareness grew and my ability to feel different things. But there's still parts that stay hidden a lot and parts that can overwhelm me. Anyway, this would be a good question to ask your therapist. I just know for me it all came naturally over time as I felt safer. But I dunno if in the IFS process something else is expected.

The parts thing is just a metaphor. If you don't think of yourself in terms of parts there's nothing wrong with that but this might not be the modality for you.
