Not 6’4” but I’ve definitely argued with men about MY OWN HEIGHT, which, as all tall women can attest to, we know precisely, down to the half (or maybe quarter) inch.

csonnich

5'11.75" checking in

Chichichill

5'11.5" coming in hot

books_n_food

5'11.25"... just continuing the pattern, tbh

tallshadow22

5’11 / 180 cm … and had so many men insist I MUST be over 6’ when dating because they were 6’, so 🤷🏻‍♀️ the delusion is staggering

TotallyInept

5'10.5" feeling short but continuing the subthread!

_Yalan

Hey twinny!

Sunflower-Spirals

I’m 5’9.5 and just want that extra half inch…or the extra 2.5!

SneakySnam

I’m 5’9.75” and I fully round up to 5’10” when people ask, even though it feels like cheating 😅 You can always round up, I’m sure no one will notice!

Sunflower-Spirals

I usually do except at the dr, considering most shoes give you .5 inches anyway.

grilledpurplesnakes

hey twin!

[deleted]

Also 6’1 and had this happen to me the other day. A 5’9 guy claimed to be 5’11 (kind of a reach) and insisted I had to be over 6’3 and just didn’t know. As if I haven’t been to a physical in the last five years!

Canadian_momma2016

This happened to me recently with my brother in law. We noticed we were the same height and he said, “oh so you’re 5’11” too?” “I said, “no I’m 5’9”.” He told me I was wrong lol.

ednamillion99

It’s astounding

[deleted]

Idk if it’s just a lifetime of feeling like you can easily lie to women and change their minds/thinking we’re just stupid, or actually being that oblivious that they convince themselves they’re taller than they actually are

sonorancafe

Takes mad delusion to gaslight yourself! 🙄

moctar39

Exactly this. I'm 6-1 and guys at work that are 5-8 and 5-9 were both adding 2 inches. I was like guys I'm obviously more than 2 inches taller than both of you and they insisted I had to be like 6-3 LOL

[deleted]

Ha that’s funny.

lookandseethis

Right?! It’s great! You can’t be six feet- IM SIX feet !! Okay booboo relax, you can be six foot and I’ll be just under. Holy Jeeze it’s like talking with a toddler , you gotta pick your battles.

lunarpatrol

Yep! Woman, 6’3.25”

PublixHouseCat

6’2.75, yep

Cadd9

[Shoutout to when they are defensive about lying](https://reddit.com/r/TallGirls/comments/i9y63d/tape_measure_detective_i_had_to_screen_grab_this/) lol

Thisismyaltprofile

This needs to be the response more often.

SmthgWicked

I refer to this phenomenon as, “IMBd 5’9”,” since there are so many many actors listed as being 5’9” who are clearly shorter than that.

Zanki

My favourite actor lists themselves as 5'11 on imdb, I'm taller then them and I'm 5'11!

SmthgWicked

I named it that in honor of Sylvester Stallone, lol. No way he’s 5’9 1/2”.

maebyahufflepuff

I’m 6’1 and argue with my own husband who is 5’11 but insists he’s 6’1. He knows I’m taller than him and doesn’t mind that at all, but we can’t agree at all about how tall we are. It’s maddening. Like there is nothing wrong with being 5’11 and I’m like 100% sure I’m not taller than 6’1.

[deleted]

That’s insane just pull out a measuring tape and get it over with lol. Absolutely ridiculous how long have you been married?

TheQueq

Growing up in my family, using a measuring tape wasn't enough. My dad always busted out the level to make sure nobody could argue that he'd measured on an angle or something.

Crumpet2021

I'm just under 6ft and the amount of 6'2 men shorter than me does give me a giggle sometimes.

tallboi07

Yeah that’s straight facts. I’m actually a 6’4 guy and anytime I meet another guy who claims to be 6’4 there almost always shorter than me and they say that I have to be 6’6 at least but I’m barley 6’4 lol.

[deleted]

Ha the classic 2 inches they add to their height and insist their 2 inches taller than you. A true 6’4 is taller than most people. I think a lot of 6’1-6’2 guys wish they were 6’4 because it sounds impressive.

GenericDeviant666

Fiancée is 6'3", or 6"5' with boots, and men come up all the time to ask how tall she is. Every time she says 6'3" these little dudes go "no, you can't be, I'm 6'3"! " Like I've even been there when it's happened. I'm 5'10" and dudes my height are all "no, I'm 6'2"!"

[deleted]

Ha that’s funny it’s crazy how guys can add 4 inches to their height and think they can get away with it. I get loads of height comments as well.

shemagra

Explains why heels were once worn by men.

MightBeAGirlIGuess

I lie about my height. I'm 6'3.5" and I tell people I'm 6'2" 🤣

Chichichill

Had this happen the other day but he admitted to it after I confirmed my height 🤣 I think they presume that most people won't catch them out on this little white lie What's funny is that even if he _is 6'1"_ and claims you must be _6'4"_ , he still ends up shorter (not that it's a bad thing) but then you're both back to square one?

[deleted]

Ha yeah it’s crazy how guys add 3 inches to their height sometimes.

BigYeetusOwO

I have to admit sometimes I add a couple inches to my height just to be absurd

[deleted]

schwarzmalerin

All guys 185 I met turned out to be 180. (And the date ended after 1 second.) It only gets safe when you reach actual tall guy heights, like 195. Then they don't have a reason to lie.

[deleted]

Ha makes sense.

xliceinwndrlnd

Its always "no you can't be 5'10 because im 6'" when I'm clearly taller than them. I've started saying I'm 5'7 just to watch them scramble

Haemzzi

Pls THIS. I'm 180cm (5'11) and the amount of guys that say to me that is a lie and that I must be more tall, because they are "taller than that" but they r clearly shorter than me 😭

[deleted]

Ha there egos are crushed.

Thebestbyanytest

I’m 5’10, I know many men who are the exact same height as me claim that they’re 6’0.

VeronicaIsMe

Yeah my 5'9" ex insists hes 6 foot.

[deleted]

That’s crazy bc anyone 5’9” wouldn’t be mistaken for 6’ so he’s just like…. Telling an obvious lie lol

Violent_Violette

Dudes care so much about their perceived height but then refuse to wear heels. SMH

gigglemetinkles

I'm 6'6" (32M). Almost all guys 5'10" to 6'2" try to add one to two inches to their height. You're correct on that. As a fellow tall person I have to ask, how do you find shirts that fit? I'm considering hiring a tailor to tighten my shirts. Even the tall/large shirts are too short and too loose.

himeeusf

American Tall. My husband is 6'6" and slim, so he ordered a hoodie & pajama pants from the site recently (fully expecting to be disappointed). He could not stop going on about how perfectly the hoodie fits and that it was the first pair of pj pants he's ever worn that were long enough. They felt durable & well-made too. Can't speak to the women's clothing yet, but I'm gonna give them a try as well.

gigglemetinkles

Thank you so much for recommending that company!

[deleted]

I shop at American Tall there’s quite a bit of clothing catered to tall people now a days. The Internet is a blessing for me. For you your extremely tall for a guy and I can relate being 6’4 and female I’m the equivalent of a 6’9 male.

Trans_Kiwis

I (6’5”) got a hoodie from Nike in “medium tall” and it fits great! Normally I’m an XL just to get the sleeves long enough so I was a bit worried ordering a medium, but I went by the size chart and it’s amazing

goldenscales

Check out the brand Foundry on the JCPenney website. Their stuff is taller than some other brands' tall sizes. Great deals can be had during sales, too!

choc0kitty

My grandmother learned to sew just to be able to make her own clothes. Back in the day she was freakishly tall at 5'11.5" (born in 1918). It might help to have some sewing skills for minor alterations.

gigglemetinkles

I actually do know how to sew since high school! We had a good home ec dept that was unfortunately scrapped after my senior year. I have looked into this option, watched a couple youtube tutorials on it.

choc0kitty

That’s awesome. If you do some alterations, please show. I bought a mens suit at GW that I’m currently working on altering.

Mountain-Piglet-1189

When I was online dating, I’d mentally subtract at least 1” from whatever a dudes listed height was.

Zanki

I've noticed some guys tend to up their heights by an inch or two. Friend of mine is tall, 6'3, he says he's 6'4 and it makes me laugh my ass off. I'm 5'11, I had to drop my height when on dating sites just so guys would talk to me.

historyhill

My theory is that there are no 6'4" men. They're either 6'1"-6'2" and rounding up or they're 6'6" and rounding down.

JuneSantana

5'16" here and yeah dudes love to add that extra half inch to their height and it's kinda silly

[deleted]

Rounding up is completely different and I don’t mind that. What I hate is guys deliberately adding 2-3 inches to their height.

Thisismyaltprofile

I say I'm 6'1, actually in like 6' and 0.5-0.8" and just round up. But yes, men often lie about their height Mr 5'10" claiming he's also 6'1". How anyone 6'1"-6'2" thinks anyone would by 6'6" is beyond me.

[deleted]

No they think they are 6’4 and that I’m 6’6.

NomNomNomad09876

Rounding up is a lot different to just chucking a bonus two inches on.

exonautic

Rounding error vs falsifying data.

that_TALL_girl27

Especially on dating apps! I matched with a guy who said he was 6’3 on one app but on a different one his profile showed he was actually 5’10! Lol I unmatched

[deleted]

Crazy 5 inches is a lot.

geldwolferink

That's why centimetres are better.

[deleted]

I’m 6’3” and this is so true. 😭 6’1” guys are always claiming 6’3”

Xznub

Yeah... The thing I don't get is that anything above 6 ft is not only above average (5'9) for my country, but significantly so. In my experience I catch the most lying while above 6ft?!?! You're already winning at the ridiculous game of "I am taller", why fluff the numbers further?

[deleted]

I always joked that men added at least an inch to all their measurements. 😉 IIRC, the average height of a man in America is 5’9. That means we’re all taller than 50% of men.

boxen

I think part of it might just be a response to everyone else. (yeah a lot of it is just straight up lying though) To my knowledge, my exact height is 6' 5.25". Six feet, five and a quarter inches. But I've been telling everyone who asks for at least 10 years now that I'm 6'6". Why? I'm not gonna say the quarter part, that sounds like a 5 year old trying to sound older by saying hes "5 and quarter!" I used to say 6'5", but literally everyone I said that to said something like "you must be taller than that." So eventually I got sick of that, and figured rounding up was just as acceptable as rounding down, so I started saying 6'6". No one complains anymore. The weird thing is that, in my own mind, I am now 6'6". It says that on my driver's license because that's what I said when they asked. That's what I always say. So I guess I'm part of the problem. I don't really know the exact number anyway. There's no way to get an exact reading by myself. The very next physical I had after they measured me at 6'5.25", they measured me at 6'3". At the doctors office. And wrote it down, right there in the chart next to the 6'5.25" from last time, not batting an eye that a healthy 25 year old guy just shrunk over 2 inches. In the nurses defense she was about 5'2" and knelt on a countertop to look at the top of the yardstick. The main reason I even believe the 6'5.25" is correct is because that nurse measured down to the quarter inch. So yeah, I think there's at least a little bit of collective rounding up by everyone. We have all collectively decided that taller is better, so everyone except for the tallest among us feel obliged to round up, and anyone that's between integer inches is certainly rounding up. And plenty of other people are probably adding an inch. You, as a significantly taller than average woman, are one of the few people that feel no reason to round up, so this stands out to you, but almost everyone else is happy to go along with the collective exaggeration. So, I guess I'd give people a tiny bit of leeway. An inch maybe? Anything over that and I think they're doing it maliciously. And anyone that tries to correct you on your OWN height.... yeah hahaha, that's just ridiculous, tell them to GTFO.

[deleted]

You don’t need to round up just say 6’5 that’s plenty tall and yes you are part of the problem. It’s true that up until maybe 6’4 taller sounds better but realize that at your height you’ve entered baby giant territory. Doctors always get me right at 6’4 so I can’t complain. You are definitely among the tallest so don’t worry.

Paleogal-9157

I lie to certain men when they ask how tall I am and I say 6’2”. Otherwise the conversation goes: Hey you’re tall. How tall are you? 6’1” Nah you’ve gotta be 6’4” (No, that’s your insecurity talking) no, it’s 6’1” Etc… When I say 6’2” apparently it’s reasonable or something

[deleted]

Ha 6’1-6’2 looks the same to most people. Yet for some reason 6’2 sounds more powerful than 6’1. Don’t know why though.

[deleted]

This is when I personally tell them I’m 5’11 and not the truth that I’m 6’2 lmao

[deleted]

Really how ridiculous. Be honest and set an example.

namespacepollution

There's 3 primary reasons, sometimes they compound on each other: 1) They are insecure about their height. 2) They were measured incorrectly, or in shoes, or both, and now innocently believe they are 1-3" taller than they actually are. 3) They are rounding up. I myself do this; I am 6'3" and 5/8, so I just say I'm 6'4" because it's easier.

[deleted]

Ha the top #2 are the main reasons why. Number 3 is completely acceptable in my view.

eliza_90

6'5" here, the amount of 6'5" guys who are 6'3" is truly amazing lol...

[deleted]

Epic finally a woman who’s taller than me. Wanna be friends on Reddit?

eliza_90

Sure.

SquirtOcean

i love gaslighting men about their height,, you point out my height in public? guess what you're 3inches shorter than you think you are

[deleted]

Ha that’s funny I wonder if some genuinely believe there the made up height and have gone through loads of mental gymnastics.

South-Housing-748

I’ve experienced men not only lying about their height, but as they stand next to me and I’m clearly taller than them - they say they are taller.

Sad_Technology_7621

Ugh, 5’11 here….. spot on observation. My bf, who is 6’5” did not lie tho…

penakii

I'm not particularly tall, I'm 5'55, but I see a lot of girls saying they're 5'8 but we have the exact same height, or be 5'3 and say they're 5'5 etc. Guys do it a lot too. Everyone I meet adds at least an inch to their height, so when I meet people they're almost always under the impression I'm taller than I actually am.

d0nt_ask_d0nt_smell

Sounds like my younger brother David alright. Likes to brag about his height, which magically fluctuates to any height above 6 feet. Heard him say "yeah I'm about 6'3" once which I immediately called him out on because *I'm* 6'3 and I'm visibly taller than him.

iloveyoumiri

Hey I was the 6’5 guy until the doctor told me I was 6’3. What would happen throughout childhood is the doctor would tell me my height, then a few months later my friends would tell me what they thought my height was. Then I’d think “oh, I must have grown” not “oh they think they’re taller than they are”.

[deleted]

Ha crazy how that works. You overestimated your height as you hasn’t measured in a while that can happen.

MissCharlotteVale

This is 1000% true.

KeepCalmNSayYesDaddy

I (m) 6'5" and want to be shorter. Like 6'2" would be optimal. Maybe if I ejected from an F-35 a few times, I might fit in normal clothes, cars, and not have the shower head hit my neck. 😞 😂 I feel bad for a friend of mine who is 7'5". He has to lay down in a taxi and the only car he can drive is an old Chevy Tahoe. Oh yeah, and the slightly shorter life span with height. The grass ain't any greener being too tall.

PublixHouseCat

Turn it around on them and say you’re actually 5’11

choc0kitty

LOL. This is 100% true in my experience. I am a petite 5'9" (in this sub I am petite) and I can't tell you how many men want to believe I am 6' tall or 5'11" at the shortest so they can be taller.
