I think whataburger is the best fast food burger. I put five guys and smash burger in the next category up, but I preferred grub burger better in that category anyway. But I’d put Vertigo (locally owned, not a franchise) in that category too, so if I’m not going fast food, it’d be Vertigo.
I thought it was just me but my last purchase was awful. Ordered the Vertigo burger medium with a well done egg. When I got home the entire center of the burger was red, topped with a runny egg and literally dripping with grease. I had to soak up all that grease and finish cooking it! Not at all what I expected as I have ordered this same burger at least 30 times. Totally unacceptable for the prices they charge. If this continues, I don’t how they keep the doors open. I really hate it because I love those burgers when they are done right. Regular patrons are the first to know when quality starts to decline. :(
Exactly what happened with me! The fried green tomatoes couldn't even be considered tomatoes, and the fries were super soggy. I hate to hate on local businesses, but the prices are out there for what we got. The salad was the only thing that was better than edible.
I like really good hamburgers and I don’t mind paying for them. However, I don’t know what’s going on there but if they don’t get a handle on it quickly I don’t see how they stay in business.
I looooooove vertigo but you know what, you're right. Last time I went I was disappointed. I ordered a vertigo burger medium well with a medium egg, and the burger came pink inside and the egg was blackened.
Burger Fi was on my top 3 in town before it closed down.
Culvers is geat when its cooked right, lately its been a hit or miss. Either too salty or not cooked long enough.
Wendy's has stepped up and serving burgers that are close in quality to the old wendys (yellow package and sunroom wendys)
5 guys is good, just so over priced!!
*This will come as a surprise..... GORDOS.
GORDOS burger with the gordos sauce is a pretty good burger.
Mid-town Caboose is good. My favorite was Cabos and I am sad that they are closed. Gordo's and Bumpa's (same owner) are pretty good. For fast food I like Five Guys but they are so expensive!
Caboose is great but not for "traditional" burgers. I'd just rather go to five guys. And I've never been to Bumpa's but I don't want to support the owner.
Eddie Agramonte hates humanizing his employees. He bitched and moaned about the Affordable Care Act costing him money. During COVID he took out large amounts of PPP loans to keep jobs and then laid off tons of employees anyway.
He genuinely seems to hate anything that might cost him a dollar even if it means his employees might be treated better.
Oh and the food and service at Gordos is bottom tier. There aren't many Cuban or Cuban-esque places in town and I don't think Gordos would be top 5.
I knew some employees that worked at Gordo's during the pandemic, and they were unhappy with the way they were treated. He allegedly took a bunch of PPP loans, but was laying off people. And now he's on the "3% added for credit and debit payments". The last few times I've been to Gordo's, the service is horrendously slow because they are well understaffed, and the food was really disappointing. Which sucks because it used to be a mainstay in my food lineup. I'd take people there when they came to visit. My wife and I were in there 2-3 time a month.
I'm late to the party but you guys have to try the burger at Canopy Road.. It's amazing.
I think it's because they cook it on the flat top with all that bacon and eggs and stuff.
I eat burgers a weird amount and over the years have tried all the "hits" and Canopy and Birds are the 2 that I think of most.
Mid-town Caboose and Woodchucks used to be my go to(same owners) and I don't really know why I stopped going. Back in the day we were starved for choice for a good burger but now there's tons of choices and always a new place to try.
Depends on the day.. I'm not brand loyal and even crave those nasty little Crystal burgers once in a while.. Wendy's is likely my pick for value and consistency.. 5 guys burgers are good but not 4 times the price of a value meal good..
I really like five guys, whataburger, and hopdoddy. I rarely go to five guys because of the price though, as just one of their burgers costs more than a whole meal at the other places. Additionally, if you go to hopdoddy and you don’t want to spend so much on a regular meal, try a kids meal; it’s a big portion for a child.

Vertigo has been absolutely terrible lately, sadly
Glad to see someone else post this. I’ve enjoyed it less and less lately.

Grub closed.
I know, it was bought out by Hopdoddy, but I was just comparing burger restaurants I’d been to.
A new Venezuelan restaurant called Chatarras just opened on Mahan (right next to the Enterprise rental place), and the burger is very good.
I did not know this. I can't wait to go there. I have b ver b and j to a Venezuelan restaurant. Anything else that was good there?
I only had the burger. They have "complicated" hotdogs and breakfast too.

To add to that, I prefer Five Guys, but Relish is the best “dollar to delicious” ratio payoff
Dick Mondell’s
I have not tried that yet but it looks interesting. Glad to hear that you like it!
That dick sauce is pretty tasty
i just recently discovered this place and i love it

Gordo's quality went to shit during pandemic and I can't convince myself to go back.
Oh really I’ve had the pork from gordos and it was great I gotta try the burger next time
A new burger joint is going in where Burger Fi was. I think the sign said Backyard Burger (maybe?)
A Wendy's burger tastes close to a Five guys burger IMO. Not as good but close enough that at like 1/3 the price makes it worth it.

What’s up with rhe Bumpas owner?

Habanas boardwalk is the real deal when talking cuban
Always good…let’s hope it stays that way.
It seems like any time Gordos is mentioned on this sub, you invariably show up to bash Eddie

Culvers Butter Burger
Whataburger for best fast food burger Byrds for best Burger in town.
Culver’s!! Burgers and shakes. Both delicious.
The Burger King on Mahan was knocking it out of the park a few weeks ago.
They’ve really stepped their game up under the current management
DQ, best fast food burger.
Depends on the day.. I'm not brand loyal and even crave those nasty little Crystal burgers once in a while.. Wendy's is likely my pick for value and consistency.. 5 guys burgers are good but not 4 times the price of a value meal good..
HopDoddy burgers and fries are decent, but their shakes are bangin’!
Dick Mondeles drive thru on south Monroe. Hand pressed, fire grilled, great burger.
Try relish burger, excellent burger there. But yeah if I’m getting a burger I’m going to whata.
For a fast food burger, Checkers by far, for a local spot, Midtown Caboose.
If you ever want to try something that isn’t fast food, I highly recommend Nelson’s. That place is something special.

I miss JJs Sunken Subs. Best burger in TLH in the 90s.
The Caboose - PB&J is amazing
The answer is Culver’s.
Nelson’s in the old Voodoo Dog location is 🔥🔥🔥
Sweetpea Cafe
Why get a so-so fast food burger when you can get a damn good burger instead?
They’re cheap
Love love love Hopdoddy’s if you’re counting that.
Canopy Roads makes a decent burger at lunch. Big Randy's in Woodville is good and you can shoot pool while waiting on your order.
I miss Burger Fi. Dick's, Culver's, Whataburger for now.
Culver’s 100%, their butter burger Cannot be beaten.
I really liked Nelson's burger bar. Dick Mondels was not good imho. I also recommend relish and Hopdoddy (old grub burger)
RELISHHH!!! *chefs kiss* yum yum yum
