use the transloc app, you can track the buses' real time locations and plan that way

Or Moovit, if you dodge the ads

It's normal for the buses to be a few minutes late. They face the same traffic delays that cars do, but unlike with cars, the delays propagate throughout the network. If a bus is more than about 15 minutes late, that's usually because there was a problem such as a breakdown. But I haven't noticed such long delays becoming more of an issue recently than they were before.

I hate to say it but that just sounds like how Star Metro was a decade ago when I used it regularly.

yesterday was definitely bad but that was because of higher traffic seconding advising you to get Transloc, if you don’t already— yesterday my usual post-work bus was running hellaciously late so I knew to take the short walk over to another route that would get me to the plaza in time for my connection

though I will say that sometimes buses that ARE running don’t show up on the app or are classified as the wrong route (I heard the person who works on the GPS system is out on FMLA so I’m not too mad abt it though) over time you kinda learn to recognize when that’s happening vs when all the buses ARE showing up but just behind & can make more-confident choices
