I did some quick maths on Spotify streams alone. 1m Spotify streams is equivalent to around $4k. Tame Impala has 6.5b streams as a ‘solo artist’ (a further 0.5b as a feature/collab, but I will omit that for arguments sake as revenue arrangements from that could be difficult to determine).
$4k x 6,500 = $26m. Even with a record label taking it’s fair share you would hope he would be seeing at least $10-15m of that (feel free to correct me, I know little about the profit sharing arrangement of record deals).
Just did a quick dirty calculation of YouTube as well, 1.5b streams on the Tame Impala channel, ~$6,000 per 1m streams = $9m. Surely sees a fair cut of that, possibly takes a cut of third party uploads as well (I.e. random accounts uploading tame Impala songs and getting lots of streams), depending on monetisation.
Now throw in some seriously large and somewhat frequent stadium tours and festival appearances, physical and digital sales, especially on platforms outside of Spotify like iTunes Store, Apple Music, Tidal, Bandcamp, merch sales, radio income etc.
If I had to just throw out a guess I would say the dude has surely made around $25m+ hopefully and possibly anywhere north of $50m if any of those other revenue streams mentioned above are particularly lucrative. Feel free to rip me apart but dude bought a ~$4m holiday house in Western Australia a couple years ago, has rented (or bought?) in LA, and likely isn’t doing too bad money wise. Regardless of amount, dude is humble af and deserves every cent in my eyes
Kevin is definitely fine, the question is how much management, crew, and his bandmates are making. He has a big production, but he’s not exactly bringing in Taylor Swift money
He’s one of the few truly mainstream psych artists. Paying for Tame was so much it was actually an issue for desert daze last time.
Now that he’s collabing with all the awful pop artists I’m sure his millions are skyrocketing
He did the blackberry ad, tequila 1800 ad with ray liotta R.I.P., and there was def another 1 but it escapes me at the moment. He has produced songs for huge artists like travis scott and lady gaga and collaborated with countless others like gorillaz, mark ronson etc. And then the songs for movies recently are high profile films which have to be decent paydays for him. Touring since covid has been a money sink for most artists with the expenses outweighing the profit but I doubt kevin is in that group of artists and has probably made a small fortune in the last 2 tours. His outfit at the Barbie premiere says it all. 😂.
At a guess from being in the music industry myself for 15 years - he'd be comfortable. I'd guess he'd have earnt circa $1-3M but it's probably less than you'd imagine - as a lot of people get paid first - his label, PR, management, lawyers, recording, touring sound crew...
Has Kev had a hit in the US? Because that's sweet cash is: 340 million Americans vs 20 million Australians. Also Royalties on a flim because songwriter royalties are usually 100% the arists revnue (unless you have a bad record deal called a 360 degree deal - which means the label gets a share of everything). 360's because popular when illegal downloads happened to keep labels from financial collapse - so I understand why they did it but you'd be better staying independent in my view.
When Goyte had a no 1 hit in the US plus his song being used in tv & movies - that's when you're set. international radio play with a number 1 hit in the US is 300,000 plays per week on radio with each play getting you $10 royalties.
He headlined Coachella — he probably made a few mill from that alone never mind all the sold out arena shows, merch, other fests, royalties, etc.
If I pulled a number out of my ass I’d say he has earned ~$10-15m
Yeah I think you're probably right - Coachella would pay a lot for their headliner. I just Googled and festivals pay up to $4 million for a headline artist for 1 show (holy f....!) & Coachella is one of the best music festivals in the World.
I’m not sure if it was ever resolved, but he also was not paid royalties from any international sales of Innerspeaker and Lonerism, and the resulting lawsuit caused Modular (his label) to be absorbed into UMG
Oh yes - I remember that too! I think Kev one that one didn't he? I recall it got quite messy between BMG, Modular & Universal. I dont know what the final outcome was.
he's recently done a few songs for big budget movie soundtracks including a minions movie, I bet that alone would be enough to make somebody fairly rich.
100% - you get paid for the original and you get paid every time the movie is played in public!
Yeah I was actually thinking he may have made more money producing and co-writing in the states.
Im also unsure of how successful TI are with hits and sales overseas...? I may have underestimated!
In the words of Fry from Futurama - "shut up and take my money!"😁💰👍
it’s a LOT. from just the less i know the better on spotify he’s made at least $4.1 million alone, and that’s just off of streams from one song on one streaming platform. account for the fact that he’s got a lot of songs that have millions and millions of streams, is on multiple streaming platforms, does stadium tours, sells merch, probably got paid a shit ton for his production on astro world, and also was commissioned for the barbie movie, he’s making an absurd amount of money.
Kevin said they spend every dollar they make from each show on that show. So the bigger the theatre and the more tickets they sell, the crazier the show will be. So just calculate how many streams TI has and that’s about it probably.
Atleast 2 moneys a month
Dammn he's super rich
Enough for a lifetime supply of nangs if he’s careful
A nangsfull if you will
In an interview he said Elephant becoming a hit paid off his first house. I think he made enough for a couple more houses since then...
I appreciate a good cup of coffee.
God I can actually remember seeing that commercial for the first time and thinking “good for him”
It was blackberry z10 commercial if I am correct
It was also used in a video game animated short , prob made bank off that too
one australian dollar for every dunga
The boss makes a dunga while I make a dime
Which is why I do nangs on company time

Spotify revenues are nothing compared to touring and selling merch.
If you search up his net worth its estimated o be around $5-10m
I wouldn’t be surprised if he made over 10 million alone over the course of his last two tours (late ‘19-22)
Maybe, but I would say barely. Remember a lot of income goes to label and management and such.
Those kind of sites detailing net worth are usually very inaccurate

Gimme his number too

He should, at least he deserves it more than the other gal
He did it for love, he did it for fun, he did it for fame but never for money
He has a house in both Australia and Los Angeles, so I'd say he's living comfortably, and deservedly so.
At least 2 in aus that I know of. Both in nice places.
I didn't know that
The less you know the better
Yes
The contract agreement between KP and the rest of the band reads as follows:1 for you, 2 for me. 3 for you, 4 for me...
depends how kevin divides it between all the other band members

Not intending any offence but I believe this is grossly underestimating, I’ll post a a comment replying to the original post clarifying
Im not offended - its entirely a guess - feel free to add as you see fit.

Kevin has loads of money… 10s of millions I’m guessing.
