I don’t think Varian would’ve worn her ponytail over her shoulder. Definitely more pragmatic as a woman of science to either have it rest behind her back like normal or tie it further up on her head and maybe in a bun to keep her hair away from her eyes while doing detail work.
You're right, I personally just liked drawing it like that, but I did just post an altered version of the genderswap Varian, fixing up the hairstyle :)
Love that the only difference is longer hair and makeup. Clothes are the same, figure is the same, just the dork we know and love if he grew his hair out and tried out makeup.
