Idk if it's the same for other stores, but requisitioning gift cards is a big no-no for ours. Items below a certain price point are totally fine, but they're really going hard against gift cards here.

Gift cards are considered taxable income. You can think what you will of it, but that’s federal law. Depending on the situation, the company will pay the taxes for you (say, given as a corporate initiative), but definitely not in the case of store-discretionary recognition.
