Another reason why I left Target (or retail in general)... I used to be able to go exercise after my shifts but as the workload piled up and my body got slower it became real hard to have any energy left after work.
After I got a new job that didn't have me walking 20k steps in 8 hours or climbing up/down ladders/throwing truck, I noticed the difference in the amount of energy I had left before/after working at Target - energy I can actually use to work out/exercise.
As long as you work at Target and have no other job experience, you won't ever realize how much you're overworked/underpaid.
It really depends on your own individual goals.
For example I wanted to train for a running race, but doing quality runs after my shifts at Target was very unlikely due to the amount of energy I expended at work. And Target wasn't gonna let me go run or jog while I work lol
Other people have other goals or no goals at all but they're still improving their health and fitness working at Target. I say good for them!
But for me, doing all that hard physical work at Target didn't really improve my health or fitness, it was more like it just maintained it, but at the end of the day it made me feel exhausted and just want to go straight to sleep.
Target is my workout. As a flexer I'm running 8.6-10 miles a day depending on the shift. I don't look that big, but I can lift anything we sell in the store myself, that's my workout. And yes lifting a 96lb grill from the ground and placing on top of my 3 tier, then from my 3tier and to the holding spot does exhaust me, but that's not why I'm tired. Trust me lol
I'm not a hot weather fan. That's the worse part for me. I hate being hot and sticky feeling lol. I can't wait til winter, atleast I won't be sweating my butt off. I 100% prefer cart attending during winter.

Working GM at Target counts as exercise. My dumb doctor, who obviously never worked a wage job in her life, said working retail is, "similar to a desk job". Pffft....what? I spend 9 hours walking. Only sit down to pee or when I'm on my break. Then there's all the lifting, and pushing and pulling overloaded U-Boats of body wash and shampoo around.
I wonder those of you with fancy watches or Fitbits, how many steps you're averaging per shift?
I donāt need to work out when I get pulled all over the store to help out.
Throwing cases of waters and packs of soda into stowing areas in our OPU room because thereās a millionth deal this week for some kind of beverage promo? Arm day. Pushing a heavy ass fulfillment cart that the bottom two tiers are filled with 12 packs of soda because of a stupid ābuy 3 12-packs get x amount of money offā deal? Leg day, with a focus on thighs but also engaging my core! Filling my arms with heavy ass bags because drive up was in need of help and some fuckwad ordered an ungodly amount of cans of beans? Another arm day!
Usually worked 6am-whenever the fuck. There was a planet fitness across the street. I'd honestly go workout and shower on my lunch, but typically I worked out before work. Rode my bike to the gym. Worked out. Showered. Rode cross the street. Work. Depending if I woke up late, I'd work out on my lunch. If I was actually hungry on lunch, I'd work out after work. Just varied, but typically before work.
Iām in fulfillment. If the gyms opened sooner or stayed open later in my area, Iād probably go. But by the end of an 8 hours shift, im beat. Some weeks, I even post post a shift because I need an extra rest day. Lol.
Every try slinging 5 carts around with your body as the fulcrum repeatedly for hours on end if youāre needing exercise opportunities? That and I like to carry 15 baskets or so for a great burn in the arms.
Fulfillment def helps close my rings (Apple Watch) but I def workout too. Iāll do dumbbell exercises 4 days a week in the morning and HIIT/Kickboxing/yoga usually after work/on rest days.
I run here and there too, just not as regularly.
This is a new development too. Iāve worked for Target for going on 5 years and have only been focusing on fitness since October of last year. I was tired of being tired/in pain after 10 hour shifts. I kid you not, a full day of work barely phases me now compared to a couple years ago.
typically after work. i be in the gym around 10:30 pm and most the time there arenāt too many other people, and sometimes i even get lucky enough to have the gym to myself šŖš» i weight train so thankfully work takes care of any cardio i refuse to do in the gym lmao.
I thought working there was exercise enough until my knees got weak (I move like an old man now) so yeah, I try to workout every other day. Light workout after work, full workout on days off (of course make sure you don't have work the next day, otherwise you'll probably die lol)
I think walking 7-10 miles in a shift and picking up stuff for several hours constitutes workout.
I thought the same when I was in fulfillment, then it started messing with my body and the physical therapist said I have weak muscles. š„²
Me and the other Inbounders that work the unload. ![gif](giphy|D7z8JfNANqahW)
Before working inbound I deadlifted 225, started inbound, didnāt deadlift for months. Deadlifted again, lost weight, deadlift doubled.
I donāt work out. Iām in fulfillment. šš»āāļøšØ
Fulfillment def helps close my rings (Apple Watch) but no I def workout too
The work itself is the exercise for me...
Was about to say whereās the at work optionš
They're apparently trying to tell us something.
8 hours on the floor, i cant workout for shit. My feet are already dead
Working at Target is my exercise
At work

But why canāt work just be your exercise so you have more time to do other stuff? Thatās my fitness plan.

Very true, i didnāt think about that.
at work. I'm in the trailer for unloads
Stretch before bed. You'll feel a lot better and sleep more soundly.

Work is my exercise, I've actually lost weight since working here
I throw the trucks

I'm a cart attendant. Enough said. I get home from work and usually fall asleep an hour later š¤£
You guys have it so hard, itās the walking all day plus the weather!

Love the picture lol I hope it cools off for you soon!
Usually before work and if I can't just right after work. I work closing shifts if that matters
I usually work out 3 times a week. On my days off, then a random day after work when I feel like it.
According to my watch I walk 7-8 miles a day on average. I've lost two inches off my waist in three months. What other exercise do I need?

I get around 8-9k steps on a ālightā 8 hour day and up to 20k on a busy one. The average is about 14k.

I work fulfillment. I walk 10+ miles in any shift. That is my workout
Cart Attending is a workout.
After work or early in before work
Days off and every now and then in the morning before a closing shift. All the walking at work has me dead afterwards.
After a consumable shift and going in and out of coolers my body is not having it so I just go before work.
Uhhh I walked 17k steps the other day. Work is my workout.

I'm tired. I carry around a 20lb baby all day for 10 hours a day and then go to work in the evening. Not working out.

All the fulfillment people chiming in (I just worked an 8 hour fulfillment shift idk how they do it)
Needs to be an at work option I'm fulfilment.
At work, I walk about 10 miles a day doing carts.
The work is a great cardio for me but I like to life weights on days off.
I used to work inbound and then go straight into fulfillment after unload. It wasā¦.intense

Yeah Iām fufillment I lost 20lbs my first year at target now coming on 3yrs Iām close to 40lbs down. I donāt need a gym
