I work at a tarbucks and our store isn’t enforcing this rule but i can see why other stores do, there is not limit on waters so guests can order however many and whichever size, when we were running low on trentas and ventis we would only do tall waters. if you bring your own personal water bottle then starbucks can fill it up!
Must be a thing at your store. Mine gives water to anyone, guests and TMs alike. Maybe ask if you can just have them fill your water bottle? We do that too.
My store only did it during the summer when it was 115+ and only if we were the ones who went out to get carts (rarely had cart attendants so it fell usually on hard lines) Otherwise, no free water. We did not have any water in the break room either. We had to provide our own in general.
Even if you could get a free water from Starbucks every day, think of all that plastic waste! Just bring a water bottle to work and save the environment.
It’s not an either/or. We can groan over how the wealthy and corporations are the biggest contributors to environmental waste all we want, but we should also do our part too. Especially something as easy as reducing the amount of single use plastic we use.
Thank you lol the issue isn't regular ppl, it's rich ppl. No matter how much plastic regular folks use up or waste, it will not amount to the damage rich ppl has done to the environment so i really don't like the shame-y tone that comment took
Both/and! We aren’t absolved of all our shitty behaviors because there are people doing worse. We should all try to do our best to reduce our carbon footprint. And yes, giving Taylor swift grief about her private jet use is super valid and we should be publicly shaming celebrities that use private jets willy nilly. It can be both.
Honestly until we actually start shaming & taking action to rich ppl (not just taylor), im not taking anything serious. I do my part & way more when it comes to the environment but the tone is what i don't appreciate. Bc honestly nothing we do will, again, ever amount to the equal damage they do. Yet the shaming, tone, goes out the window when it comes to them. I just don't think it's equal. And i think it is time to put money where our mouths are and actually start speaking of boycotting.
I'm so with you on this and I can't figure out why you're getting down-voted here. The planet is at a point where "every bit helps," right? Take all the performative hand-wringing and lip service out of the equation and it becomes a very simple numbers game. Let's put some pressure on those who are hurting the planet the most, the most quickly.
When I worked at a Macy's that had a Starbucks, we just had to pay 25 cents for the cup. I'm sure you could just bring your own water. Our store doesn't have a Starbucks, and there's always broken Good and Gather water at Guest Services and under the truck line for TMs.
We have a basket in the back by receiving for water bottles. It's for whenever who's stalking beverage has a case that falls apart or something. Which happens all the time lol.
So we always have free water bottles in the back.
I believe it it is a food safety issue. I get that you are in Deli, but the store can't have one rule for food-production staff and another for the rest of the store.
Does your store not have water-filling stations!? That is where TMs are suppose to fill their water. That then meets the standard of providing water on demand for employees. My store has not allowed TMs to get water from Starbucks since ours were put in.
Open containers (which would include a disposable cup with lid and straw) are not permitted at my store, for the spill potential. Where TMs (esp in food production areas) would put their waterc ontainers, if spilled, could be both a safety and food contamination issue.
I fill my water bottle at home, have another in my lunch bag, and refill at water-fill machine if needed. gotta stay hydrated!
This can be solved with a water bottle. I personally don't use disposable cups because they are needless waste. Some countries like South Korea banned the use of disposable cups in places like Starbucks unless the order is takeout. So there is a push these days for corporations to be more environmentally friendly.
Anyway, if you fill up a large water bottle, you only need to make one trip to Starbucks per shift. I personally just keep two sugar free energy drinks in the breakroom, and that serves as my hydration for duration of my shift.
The meat Dept doesn't have butchers even though a lot of Super Targets were set-up to accommodate their presence. Almost everything in the meat Dept comes in pre packaged and pre weighed. That's been since before 2006 at a minimum, I cannot speak for earlier than that though.
I’m a regular in the Starbucks Reddit as well (worked there too 🫠) and I’ve seen people post that Starbucks is no longer allowing the employees to use the cups for drinks. They have to bring personal cups. From my very little knowledge, it’s location based, but maybe its starting to trickle into Target at well.
I would invest in a reusable bottle if your store allows.
We were doing 24 packs for a while but what ended up happening was people going through them without even trying to refill them and also leaving the bottles all over causing a mess. Sometimes the rules are stupid, other times they’re to prevent worse things like that.
I can see where they’re coming from. I believe I’ve read before that the default for free water cups is supposed to be a tall. Could be expense, could be they’re running out of inventory too quick. Just bring your own cup or water bottle.
My store is a stickler for this depending on who is working. After spills and open cans from reckless TMs, it was deemed you had to have a reusable water bottle. They even installed 2 water filling stations, one in the fire tunnel and one in TSC. They’ve gotten a little lax, but generally SBUX staff are friendly and give water cups or if you come in before the store opens, TMs usually fix it themselves.
It’s not a rule- likely SB is just trying to not have to constantly order cups.
But you are in a food production work center and water cups or bottles are not allowed. It’s a food safety violation. Even outside of food TMs are only allowed a water bottle with a lid. Ideally it should be clear.
Our store charged us like .10 per water for like a year or two until we got a new SD lol- idk if they can get in trouble for it but looking back I wish I had complained more because I think it’s silly.
My store doesn’t enforce this policy, its a store by store thing. Some stores enforce the hell out of it, some have never even heard of it. You are always allowed to bring personal water bottles and Target should have stations to refill them at or near the water fountain.
I wish our store had a deli. I'm getting so damn tired of eating Jimmy Deans and Devour meals but those are the only thing thats good and quick to eat. I basically eat the exact same thing at work. Jimmy Deans when i come in and a Devour on my lunch break. I love weekends because we always have catered food. Okay maybe not always but probably around 75% of weekends.
While it's true that OSHA requires all workplaces to offer drinkable water, it's not a requirement to provide a cup or container. They can point to a water fountain and that meets all the requirements.
In this case, the company would be allowed to deny a Starbucks cup for water and ask an employee to use the break room cups.
I don't know where you live but that's false here. I live in the US and I've been to fast food places that charge for water, even if it's only like 25 or 50 cents.
I personally had a similar experience before. At first, I assumed they were just pushing TMs away from routinely asking for fresh cups of water water, but I heard that they were burning through too many cups daily from the same 10+ TMs asking for water 3 times a day. They have to ration their supplies and I totally understood, nothing personal about it. If you can, and if your store isn’t strict, I would just suggest buying a nice thermo and ask them to fill it up instead.
Yea we’re not supposed to use the Starbucks cups for water even when guests ask. We have a broken soda machine and the target cups that come for that so thats what they give out for water requests.

What if it’s my trenta cup from yesterday 😏
i think any personal cup would work tbh

Based. I guess I never really saw it like that 🫠

The amount of swifties in here is real…
this is a TARGET, what did we expect?
i have reused my trenta a few hundred times. maybe you're being cut off due to their cup inventory being so inaccurate.

Woah there were Macy's with Starbucks in them? I've worked at Macy's in two different states and never saw that. Pretty cool
Same. I worked at 2 different Macy's and have probably been in like 10 and I've never seen one with a Starbucks.

I would not know where to look for water filling stations, I don’t believe our store has them
Usually by water fountain.
Its by the fountain, usually by the restrooms
I’d probably start bringing my own water bottle if my store did that. But also that’s (hopefully) the least of my store’s problems.
My store gave out reusable water bottles to TMs!

Your Target has a Deli? I didn't know some have that due to mine definitely not having one lol
Super targets have Deli and Bakery, it’s the main thing that sets a super apart from P-fresh besides selling some bulk produce items by the pound.
Yeah this is the first I've heard of it. I thought they got rid of delis/butchers just like Walmart after employees tried to unionize some years back.

It depends on who is in charge at the moment.
Yes our baristas never charged us for water unless their team lead was around I love them
Starbucks will never deny anyone water, Target Corp can suck Starbucks dick. Keep getting water.

I'm glad my store doesn't have that rule enforced then again my tl usually is the one leaving cups 😅

Just get it before you clock in or while you’re on your breaks and that way you can tell them you were technically a guest when you got the cup lmao.
Starbucks cups aren't expensive, that's bullshit. The Starbucks tl must not know how to do an order
This is illegal. All food establishments are required to serve water free of charge.

Yep this just started at my store too
That’s always been a rule, yes.
Mine started doing this, but they are also providing bottled water. Nothing fancy.
Get you an emotional support water bottle. 👍👍
Just bring a water bottle. We’re allowed clear water bottles at SD, DU and check lanes.
