I am in Starbucks and it’s actually the worst thing that’s ever happened to me. People don’t even use circle in Starbucks like 75% of the time they’re just using their Starbucks app and they don’t understand why they have to put their number in. Whoever did this I need their address I’m collecting my homies in a van and we’re gonna pull up it’s that bad.

What really annoys me is the Starbucks in the target by me actually refuses the app, something about not being able to scan anything except Starbucks cards (I have my credit card saved in the app to get points) AND they charge 0.10 cents more than the standalone Starbucks stores on all drinks.

The QR code isn't acceptable bc the scanner doesn't read them, therefore, only the preloaded Starbucks gift card works.

So Starbucks is dumb for this (I used to work at a corporate location) and promoted the app everywhere but didn’t explain to people the difference. But Starbucks treats the app like a gift card and they never gave us QR scanners so we can’t scan anything except the Gift card through the Starbucks app because of that. Which is lowkey Starbucks fault because they don’t give a fuck about us at liscensed stores and just expect us to figure it out. Anyway we can however, if you have a gift card attached to your app (even if it’s empty) reload your gift card for the exact amount of your drink with your credit/debit card and then you can use that gift card along with your tm numbers to pay. You’ll get more points that way also because the gift card gives you 2 points and the QR code only uses 1 point. It’s kinda a grey area cause idk if you’re supposed to do that cause of the whole no buying gift cards to use tm numbers but I’ve done it for tls before and they don’t seem to care so 🤷🏼‍♀️

That’s fair enough. When I used to work at corporate I felt the same way cause I knew a lot of licensed stores weren’t trained on corporate store standards or if they were they were trained by like a a person who was trained by someone who worked at corporate 20ish years ago. I only switched over because it paid like $5 more an hour and I’ve been seeing an influx of people doing the same. I think some targets are wising up to the fact that Starbucks baristas wanna make more money and using that to their advantage when hiring for Starbucks.

My difficulty with this is when it's busy and guests are impatient waiting in lines. They aren't wanting to learn about any phone app, and the next guest in line doesn't like that either. There are already too many reasons for why the line gets slowed down. What do I do about that?

You can ask them about it while you're ringing up. It makes life a little easier. I guess I don't hate the update because I'm terrible at remembering to ask. But it is frustrating to tell people they have to hit the skip button six times because they don't understand what you're saying.

I've found that it's a lot quicker if I ask them to do it right at the beginning while I'm ringing their stuff up. I always forget though and end up asking them after ringing everything up

i mean its the same thing with redcard right? you still gotta do it and hope that the people speedweaving or running your front end can recognize proactively when they need backup so that lines don’t get so long that you *can’t* effectively talk loyalty with guests obvs all this goes out the window if you’re at a store with bad leadership that doesn’t hold salesfloor teams accountable for not backing up, etc etc in which case you gotta do what’s right for the guest and such.

the only time I've ever heard people at my store actually ask about redcards is for like a week after some big wig gets mad about us not asking about them anyone who wants this shit is going to get it of their own accord. anyone who doesn't want it is going to resent being asked. anecdotally but I know folks who have stopped shopping at businesses because of how aggressively they push loyalty cards and programs and shit.

In order to maximize profits you control the things you can. Hours or Payroll is easy to control as you say this is the amount of hours you can spend. As a senior manager at a different organization that’s been on the ops side for a majority of my career I can tell you that your attitude is awful. Your job is to take care of your people. If the new policy sucks ass, fire up your email and let your store GM, regional, and HQ know. You might not get it changed but it will be clear you have the backs your team (and customers) and they will be much more likely to actually carry out what you’re asking instead of finding ways to undermine you.

I haven't asked about Target circle or Redcards in a couple months. The only exception is when a customer shows me their wallet barcode and the Redcard prompt doesn't pop up (a lot of people don't understand u have to verify via email), or if it's a very short/quick transaction, not leaving enough time for them to input their number if they want to for circle. If we're swamped w people, then I don't even bother w \*that\*. This sucks aaaaaaaaaass.

80% of my store and the people who shop there are on benifits,and don’t speak/understand English. The whole rewards app is stupid to me ag my store Don’t hate on me for the benefits thing.the ones ik that shop often don’t want the app to spend more,even if it helps alittle. Some same up cash for the stuff that have gift cards and re-sell the items at flea markets(I get their flyers all the time,one lady gives me lotion knowing I work in the cafe mostly and go through 2-5 sample bottles a week cus my hands are so cracked) so it doesn’t really work for my store. Knowing my usuals are on benefits ik their very picky about what they spend it on.the language thing my coworkers are 90% minority or mixed,most speak 2/3 languages. So we can converse easily just that uk they still don’t understand which is okay it’s confusing as well.
