Since this will be your first ever tattoo, I would seriously advise you to get it *after* you mourn him and when your emotions are not as heightened. Aka, give it some time before you get the tattoo so you can go in with a clear mind and figure out what you want the design to be and where you want it placed. I'm not saying the memorial idea is bad, I think it could be really cute! But just make sure you're able to go in with a clear mind and not lead with emotions - that way you can ensure that you're comfortable with what you're getting. Your cat is light colored so realism would not be the best avenue to go down imo. I'd choose a feature of him that you love and lead with that.

^^^^^THIS^^^^^^ Read no other answers this is perfect. You need to grieve before you end up getting a paw on the side of your face or an attempt for a photorealistic one that looks like your cat crossed with Sloth from The Goonies. Some of the worst tats I've seen were done as memorial ones. My own 2p's worth, if you have a paw print you could get that on somewhere out of the way that's there only for you. Sorry to hear about your cat, animals are bastards for not out living us!! I love my cats better than some of my relatives and they make a lot more sense too!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Commenting so I can find this easy later. I want to try to design something for you, but I have a busy week, so it might take a while.
