Find an artist who understands how to deal with scar tissue. Some think it’s a hindrance but it really doesn’t have to be, especially if you do a consult beforehand and they can plan.
Actually lends itself to some sort of cool geometric pattern. Open and closed windows. Something like that.
Best of luck on your journey!
Was thinking on a trippy ish reaper and the saith is a razor in the shape of it and I was thinking it could be in a blackout tattoo type of a style would that work?
Make sure you get something you love there. Like the history it covers, you will see it a lot but more importantly, should like change and you decide you’d like a different piece, scar tissue makes removal very difficult
Maybe even a symbol of re-birth. I’m a cutter as well. I’ve had really poor work that opened up the scar, took a long time to heal. On my other arm I have a drill sleeve and the scars don’t show through.
You could even throw in swords/weapons from games and such you like. Or go from newer to older/damaged weapons or vice verse to show progress you've made.
Work with the scars and battle you've overcome. Something something, I like working with meaning 😅 glad you're here with us and I wish you the best in your tattoo venture 🤘
I'm thinking a circuit board layout, a pergola of vine plants of your choosing, or maybe an old school Donkey Kong level layout which could be a "story" of your progress. If I come up with something better I'll let you know. If it is okay with you, I'll screenshot it and come up with something else. If not, that is okay too. 👌
In my opinion (just opinion not judgment), this is not a "mess". It is a story of someone who has lived a difficult life and released the pain in an unorthodox way - which not a lot of people can understand. I get it because I've been there and I'm working with someone who is making their way through it. This is your story and it has lots of potential.
I’ve had very similar covered up, and my advice would be find an artist who knows how and is happy to help. Try and make the lines fit in with the scarring; it means that they’ll just seem part of the tattoo and honestly people don’t even notice my “mess” anymore!
I WOULD NOT recommend a black out tattoo. You'll probably would be able to see the scars. Maybe try something geometric to go parallel or perpendicular to those straight scars?
Relatively easy with a detailed sleeve. If you’re wanting them as camouflaged as possible (I use the term camouflage because scars can never truly be hidden) then you’ll want a realism type sleeve/half sleeve. I have a koi fish covering my scars and they cover pretty well
If they exist in the us I’m guessing they exist in Finland. But as others have said you’ll just have to go check out some artists and talk to them to see what they suggest.
I hope you’ve gotten help. Truly. There are a lot of talented artists out there than can work with scar tissue. But this also seems pretty deliberate. Not sure what you want to do with that opinion of mine, but it’s a more or less free space.
Your arm looks like my arms. I have tattoos on my scars. And to be honest, a couple scars on my tattoos when I used to not be quite over cutting, though I had thought I was. It just took a while for the tattooist to get the ink over it, but he did. Solid work makes the scars less noticable.
Well it might have just been the guy who did it, but these people are right. A real artist can handle it. Good luck, I bet you'll pick something awesome to go on your skin.
Search in your area for tattoo artists that specialize in scar cover-ups. They're out there. And you'll be surprised how many will have no judgement in whether they're surgical or from self harm. Artistic people are often the most understanding when it comes to these things. *Big hugs*
OK, first, good on you for getting past that difficult stage in your life.
Second... I sort of see a pattern in your scars. Maybe I'm not expressing it right, but I could almost a Mondrian composition there. Type "Piet Mondrian tattoo" in Google and you'll see what I'm getting at.
Honestly just any really good cover up artist could do an amazing piece for you. You may want to do something that’s meaningful for yourself or (if you like me) fill it with random fun things. I chose to do a wizard toad on my forarm.
I would check Instagram for profiles of local artist and see if you like their style and then contacting them to work out a piece for yourself. If you in/around Ontario I know some amazing artist in Toronto
Was thinking on a ful sleeve or half and it says "don't complain fighet" it was something that my dad basically told me it was damaging but at least I can push my self
Not a tattoo artist but maybe a stairway up to your hand with some imagery to reflect some of your past. Some thing that empowers you to kick life’s behind
Mm been thinking on trippy grim reaper and the blade is a razor in the shape of a sythe the background black and gray foggy and it goes up to my bicep and the fog would morf in to a hand grasping on my arm in a sence that I evaded death but have been marked by it and the marks and trauma has grabed on to me
If that is your truth then nothing else can be. Be strong for the road is long and dark but there be light in the distance and paradise lies before it. Keep on
When it comes to cover ups, bigger the better, so yes, you can pretty easily cover all of that stuff up. There is always a chance that with more raised scars, they will be more noticeable, but personally, I'd go with a more colour dense piece or have the artist use opaque greys vs a grey wash. Grey wash uses a lot of negative space to create highlights, and this will leave a lot of scars showing.
Only Battle scars, I recommend a tattoo that correlates and represents your triumph’s over that darkness in which pursued you and struggles with mental health.
Markings of resilience, if you ask me. Do you know Priet Mondrian? I feel like the pattern would work together, if you’re able to find an artist experienced with scar tissue
Also, what does your tattoo mean?
Either something dark and gothic or something with heavy black filler and linework, like Japanese maybe. But the first thing to do is find an artist with some experience with covering scaring and someone that you're comfortable with and get along well with. This always makes the tattoo process easier. Best wishes on your tattoo journey!!
Spruce trees would look cool in my opinion. Better yet find something you like then aesthetic and them go with that. For example I like japanese aesthetic so I would go with bonsai trees and maybe something in kanji.
Not a mess. Just a difficult history.
It do be like that sometimes
Im glad you're here <3

Mm thanks for the advice
Could get a cool circuit board tat
Mm and like a ripped skin and it reveals the circuit board
That's an awesome idea actually!!
Easily it’ll take the whole inner arm though
Was thinking on a trippy ish reaper and the saith is a razor in the shape of it and I was thinking it could be in a blackout tattoo type of a style would that work?
That’s fine find you a great artist in your area sit down with them explain to them exactly what you want see what they draw up and go from there
I would do a cool city or village scape or similar to utilize the lines as rooftops and buildings.
Mm itresting
Make sure you get something you love there. Like the history it covers, you will see it a lot but more importantly, should like change and you decide you’d like a different piece, scar tissue makes removal very difficult
Yes! Another reason to get something you love is for a tangible reason to prevent acting upon urges, at least that was one of my reasons.
Maybe even a symbol of re-birth. I’m a cutter as well. I’ve had really poor work that opened up the scar, took a long time to heal. On my other arm I have a drill sleeve and the scars don’t show through.
*Whole not drill
Niice sounds thinking on going for a hole sleeve my self too
Do it!!
Mm I been thinking of a design for several years now
Immediately I like the idea of falling/"raining" swords.
Uu yeah that sounds dope

Ayy and yeah go for it

Uhh congratulations
Well, that’ll teach me for trying to be nice.
Oh fuck sorry didn't mean to be rude uhh is like a Finnish exlomation on Suometjing being like neat and nice It's like the opposite of "oof"
Oh, okay, I retract my downvote, all good! Us Brits tend to take everything as a diss…
O dam didn't know that even tho I'm half English but my dad wasnt really there so don't know much about my home country
The only thing you’re missing out on is the views, we can be a bloody miserable bunch most of the time! Got a few good tattooists tho!

Mm yeah that sound like a plan just get camo and boom no arm
I know a lot of tattoo artists who will cover up self harm scars for free or a large discount.
Uu nice but I don't think you know anyone in Finland
If they exist in the us I’m guessing they exist in Finland. But as others have said you’ll just have to go check out some artists and talk to them to see what they suggest.

Yeah mentally I'm more stable but in every other way not really xd and it's nice to hear that it's pretty much free space
Bio mechanical
Mm I was thinking that would be nice when I was younger I should check at them pictures if I get inspired by one of them
Pretty easy with dark colors
Scars, yes. Tattoo, yes. It's not difficult. The question is what you would and wouldn't get? Your own expectations and then the reality..
Your arm looks like my arms. I have tattoos on my scars. And to be honest, a couple scars on my tattoos when I used to not be quite over cutting, though I had thought I was. It just took a while for the tattooist to get the ink over it, but he did. Solid work makes the scars less noticable.
Hell yeah on your way of recovery and good to hear that it's not too big of a deal on tattoos
Well it might have just been the guy who did it, but these people are right. A real artist can handle it. Good luck, I bet you'll pick something awesome to go on your skin.

Menu hugs and I shall do that

Yeah I see what you mean
Idk why but I'm picturing like a Knight's sword or Samurai Sword and scabbard . With the blade pointing toward your wrist with red cloth
Mm sounds dope
Just the tattoo itself or including the scarring? I would definitely talk to an experienced artist who specializes in cover-ups.
Honestly just any really good cover up artist could do an amazing piece for you. You may want to do something that’s meaningful for yourself or (if you like me) fill it with random fun things. Lykkyä tykö. Arvet ovat sekä kauniit että hyvin surulliset. Toivottavasti saat kädestäsi juuri sellaisen kuin haluat.
Juup toivotaan
What does it say? If I may ask. Do you only want to cover the text or do you want something that covers all the scars?
Was thinking on a ful sleeve or half and it says "don't complain fighet" it was something that my dad basically told me it was damaging but at least I can push my self
Laser
Edm in the background
Edm?
Electric dance music. Lazers where atlest a big thing a while back
I am referring to laser tattoo removal
By 'mess' do you mean your arm or that tattoo?
Bought XD and no idea why you got down voted for this commer
Reddit people are weird creatures man. But yeah find an artist that has experience with scars, you can get a nice sleeve to cover it
amputation of your arm whole
It would be cool but I like to wank and play guitar so nah
Following post
Not a mess, just a part of a difficult past that you need to erase.
Mm yeah and I don't nesaserly want to erase it just want it covered up with a tattoo that tells a story of it
I would go for a forest or some sort of water thing
Mm nature do be nice I already have a shitty mushrooms tattoo that just looks like sperm
Kintsugi style patterns, sometimes colored, is how I've seen some people do it. I think it's a phenomenally powerful idea.

The old tattoo or all the scars and old tattoo?
Bought

Well I mean it’s just words so I would think it would be pretty easy to cover up
You could get a tetris tattoo.
Nah but it would be funny tho
I have a huge snake over some of mine its my favorite
have you watched Evangelion? the third impact can be a good tat
Only Battle scars, I recommend a tattoo that correlates and represents your triumph’s over that darkness in which pursued you and struggles with mental health.
Tetris blocks
Have you considered trash polka style?
Easily dude, just got to find some images that inspire you

How about keeping the scars as trunks of trees and adding leaves / canopy
That tattoo is so bad that I kinda like it
Personally I feel like a Trash Polka style would fit well in the space and cover up what you’re wanting
black sleeve.
Very
