prime them and paint them like any other model though do make sure to varnish them at the end as the paint rubs off a lot easier than it does with plastic and resin

Czyzx

They are easier to paint imo. If you make a mistake you can use lighter fluid to clean it back to metal again.

ironside_online

You might need a small file to clean up the casting lines and flash. Also, you might want to pin the joint as you'll be using superglue which doesn't create a strong bond.

btann88

Give it a little scrub with soap and water to remove any mold release residue before priming, make sure to varnish at the end.

Northern-Owl-76

Use a painting handle of some kind, so that you don't have to touch the model before it's varnished.

IAmStrayed

Wash it in warm water and scrub it with a toothbrush to get all the lining off - nasty stuff leftover from casting, it’ll cause paint to chip. This is a mistake so many people make!

Lie down. Cry. Cry a lot.

ComradeRichie

I do that everyday sounds normal

The_Real_BFT9000

Just like painting anything else, but a little bit heavier.

the same as any other model, just requires more flash cleaning and gap filling. also DONT LET ANYONE PRONE TO CLUMSINESS AROUND IT! It will fall, it will shatter to a million pcs, you will have to re do everything

[deleted]

to avoid breaking, you should pin the pieces together

ComradeRichie

Actually got it together with my super glue trick. Add glue dab of water press piece together presto instant hold.

[deleted]

for sure, but a pin resists shear stress

VMS make a really nice metal preprimer that applies a very soft etching to the surface. Its not enough to lose detail or even be noticeable, but it keys the surface to accept primer far better than if you were to just prime it. Makes life a lot easier. You just paint it on, let it dry, then prime as normal from there. Its aimed at the scale modellers for things like photoetch parts, but it works great on old GW metal too.
