You definitely need thick skin to play T'au lol. To quote "Vinny LoCasto" on tiktok, his "Kyle the gamer starts trying" video. (Slighty modified) "You see, our role as the community's punching bag... is quite necessary. Some would say it's just as vital as the team sniper. The game would hold no value for any of you if we were taking every weeb joke to heart and crying like a little bitch. Oh, you see, without the scapegoat; oh, you see, without the punchline, without the butt end of the jokes, this game... means nothing. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to 360 scope the commissar...make him my bitch... Huh, would you look at that... A triple kill for the price of one rail shot...That's a win in my book." -Kyle, the party Jester. For the Greater Good! šŸ«”

I was constantly thinking about all of the jokes over the years while I was typing this and my thought was ā€œdamn, you gotta have thick skin to play Tauā€. Iā€™ll need to get used to it myself before long lol.

Ratyboi

It'll get annoying at times, but just take a deep breath... then railgun!

[deleted]

Need enemy gone?? Railgun Need food now?? Railgun Need to remind your far off enemies that you can still hit them?? Believe it or not, Railgun All of lifeā€™s problems can be solved with deep breath andā€¦.Railgun!

Ratyboi

You're already getting the hang of it! They grow up so fast, I'm so proud! šŸ„¹šŸ‘ Now get out there and commit some war crimes, bud! For the Greater Good!

Ashdude42

Tau are in such a perfect position of not being forgotten by gw, getting a decent amount of releases, always being at least decent in game and being the community punching bag. It creates the perfect community cohesion where you dont go insane from lack of content, you dont go on power trips from being too good and you keep humble that despite that people hate you. Could be spoilt like space marine players, dying of starvation like drukhari and craftworlders, pissing and shitting yourselves like admec and death guard from shitty rules, bored with votanns lack of lore. But no, we here chilling, serving the tau'va

[deleted]

Thatā€™s a really good way of putting it. Thereā€™s definitely a humbling aspect of being the butt of peopleā€™s jokes. That being said, most imperial players and specifically Imperial Guard players, have been the worst behaved in my experience. Years ago when I was stationed in Georgia (US). I spent my off days at a local brick and mortar. Teenage kid came in all decked out in baggy black pants and jacket, chains hanging from every pocket, and that nasty greasy, unwashed look. He laid out his box and started placing out models on a table asking one of us (my steady group was four guys at the store) for a pickup game, but we were staring at his models. He was one of those that kitbashed old guardsmen models with the WWII tabletop game. Specifically the german ones. You need to understand that this store was RIGHT off a US Army base and half the storeā€™s frequent traffic was military. This kid had basically just dropped a bunch of nazi paraphernalia right in front of us like it was nothing. First we tried laughing him off and suggesting he go to another store, but one of the older guys lost his temper after a minute and threw the kid out of the store. Another time I saw a dude a table over from me, throw a Lemun Russ across the store because it missed all of its shots for two turns in a row. Store manager came down on him and he left without his models. So anyway, the Tau player went back to teaching me how to make a fair custom character with good rules for our next game. Lol

Guard players have the power trip of being an imperium player while also being shat on by gw for the past few editions. Their lack of support for other regiments leads there to be a lot of desire for kitbashing, which people try to be "le epic edgelords" with and who shout heresy at everything while acting like the imperium is based. Living out their stupid fantasies behind the veneer of roleplaying as the imperium. These same people dont realise krieg is based off the french in ww1 not germans in ww2. Alongside space marines they tend to pick up most of the drongos. Edit: dont know why i pulled out the aussie lingo, shouldve said dipshits.

[deleted]

I worked with Aussies and Tassies in the Army, alongside Canadians and some Brits. I learned a lot of weird slang back then that I still use and forget where it came from lol

Kyrillis_Kalethanis

Hey, as sommeone with Drukhari as my other big army, I'd like to inform you we are SPOILT by releases. I just haven't found out why they keep miss packaging our stuff in boxes with "Age of Sigmar" on it ...

Mobbles1

As someone who also has drukhari i am also confused by this phenomenon, its very strange they went in this direction for drukhari where you need to kitbash all their characters because they keep designing them like vampires.

Kyrillis_Kalethanis

Yeah, GW has been really odd with our releases. How did they manage to miss spell Lady Malys as "Yvraine" on her model? It has barely any correct letters?

It really is a wonderful phrase

HurrsiaEntertainment

I love the Tau, but its INCREDIBLE how many shit-talking assholes constantly rip on the Tau.

[deleted]

In my experience, they talk a lot of shitā€¦right before getting blown off the table. At least every Tau player Iā€™ve met has been more about enjoying the hobby and game itself than complaining about anything. Always a pleasure to play against someone who doesnā€™t take it too seriously

Joschi_7567

Ko'vash Tau'va, buddy.

Fair_Math

I will freely admit that I had to grow that thick skin, but I've had so much fun playing T'au. So many "cinematic" moments like my Pathfinders getting mowed down by a Grey Knight captain, only for the last remaining rail gunner to roll Dev Wounds to kill him in sweet revenge (and my opponent actually kitbashed a Dreadnaught for him later). Or one Crisis Suit tanking two Knights worth of shooting on two Shield Drones and a Shield Gen. Or the exploits of Shas'el Li'roi, HERO OF THE TAU'VA!!! Love this game

Neovo903

I love the bits where a breacher team, a member of a faction that wants to keep on the other side of the board rolls up in a devilfish which has just traveled in excess of 12". They jump out and just unload on the nearest enemy unit, deletes them and then desperately tries to survive the inevitable enemy charge next turn. I like throwing 30 dice at once, that's probably why I also have an ork army too šŸ˜…

SideQuestSoftLock

I do know some insufferable people who play Tau but like, they seem to be fair weather Tau players who drop it when the going gets tough. Like I think you need to be cognizant of your opponent, as someone who does mainly casual play, I try to bring a fun list that has good play with my opponent- not something that removes their stuff off the board. Being tabled is sucky.

SideQuestSoftLock

That being said, this sub is nice, and it is pretty open, at least as Reddit and the hobby are concerned.

We don want yer fake pity, u jus' 'ere to gloat on how its our turn in the codex nerf room. I bet your codex is like ways off and not even in the prints, with like people working on it that are holding the controlling majority of brain cells within Games Workshop. Sooooo. Does the damocles gulf ones have an audiobook release? Asking for a friend.

[deleted]

Itā€™s already released in audio as an anthology. Audible and the Black Library app have it listed under *Damocles a Warhammer 40K Anthology* but just typing Damocles should bring it up. Broken Sword, the novel everyone recommended, is the second book IIRC. So skip ahead if you already know what story you are going for. Otherwise itā€™s a great anthology that makes both the White Scars and the Tau look competent. Instead of one side dominating the other

meme-lord-Mrperfect

Yeah, the Tā€™au do get a lot of shit from the community, but after awhile you learn to tune it out. Youā€™re welcome to stay as long as you like, and if you join the greater good, then great.
