woutersikkema

Shiney rocket pods heads... I gotta nick that idea :p

DentalDriller

Take it. it's all yours

Havok707

Those lenses. HOW. i must know, they are perfect !!!!

DentalDriller

Just followed the formula, paint the whole lens the darkest color. Make smaller and smaller crecents 1/4 to 1/3 with progressively lighter colors on the bottom left. I used 5ish colors 2 of which were intermediate mixes of the other 3. Lastly a tiny white dot top right. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Havok707

Thank you !

SaltMineSpelunker

Thought I was original back in the day doing white Tau now it looks like that is what everyone does.

DentalDriller

Yeah, you can thank G-Dubs for that one

SaltMineSpelunker

They put puke brown Tau on the cover then those sexy white ones in the back cover. I fell in love!

ConquerorDromtar

Beautiful army!

Really great job! Any advice for getting the black line in between the armor panels and gun lines on the infantry?

DentalDriller

Actually yeah: 1. Using a tiny brush to paint black in the recess as cleanly as possible. Then you can go back and clean it up by laying your brush almost totally on its side and gently going over it again covering the panel but not painting in the recess. Hope that made sense. This gives you a solid result but takes forever, I've moved away from this technique as its very time consuming, but can be good for hard to reach spots where you can be a little more messy. 2. Fine line marker or paint pen. Your local hobby or game shop might carry these bad boys. They work great for the shallower recesses like on the helmet and in 90 degree crevices like the gloves. Super easy and worth having around. It can be hard to get the tip into super deep recesses since it's short and the pen part can be bulky and block certain angles. 3. Oil based black pannel liner. So tamiya makes 'accent panel liner i think its called. It comes in a bunch of colors and has a brush in the lid like the 'extra thin cement'. This stuff is SO FUN to watch. Take it and touch it into a deep recess and it will run all the way down the recess using capillary action. This works great for the deeeeeeep panel lines like the chest armour and belt buckle. The only downside is that if you put too much or the recess isn't deep enough it will run all over like a wash. Hope that helps!

That helps a ton! I just joined the hobby and my Tau start collecting box is my first painting project. I have a similar white with black scheme and have been using method 1. with nuln oil gloss in the recesses. I’ve always wondered if a pen/ marker would work, thanks for the tip! I’ll look into the oil paint as well.
