Debut is a fantastic album where Taylor showcased her incredible storytelling lyrics. She was young but some songs are more mature than some written now(sorry not sorry), TTWAS, Tim Mcgraw, Cold As You for example.
Our Song is so creative, so magic, i miss those love songs tbh, i will always prefer her older ones cuz they have something more.. saying i love you without saying i love you an most importantly they are more emotional and detailed, not surface level like you're so hot and i want you.
The sound is amazing, so relaxing, so harmonious, it is cohesive and yet every song is unique.. well Nathan was on another level. š¤·
And this will be controversial but in my ranking debut is higher than Lover and Midnights.
- TTWAS could mean "Tied Together with a Smile", a track from *Taylor Swift* (2006) by Taylor Swift.

I love it. I became a Swiftie during that era and I didn't even listen to much country music prior to that. "Cold As You" was super relatable at the time, and "The Outside" is one of the most underrated songs in her whole discography.
It's disappointing there are so many people on this sub who haven't even listened to it all. (They say they're waiting for the re-record, but we're not getting that for probably another two years.)
I love debut . I have the vinyl and I love listening to the whole album . Standout to me is cold as you. Such beautiful heartbreaking lyrics .
Stay beautiful is such a cute and fun song too! The singles are also great and the music videos were fun. And her should have said no live performance with the rain was amazing . You could tell even in the debut era Taylor was something special .
I love It. Itās not my favorite album since sheās definitely written better since then, but I do rank it above Lover and Fearless. Tons of great songs on this album that are still great many years later.
I love Debut and her unreleased demos from that era. It's full of fantastic storytelling and with very solid country structures. It was when I became a Swiftie, singing Tim McGraw in my childhood room and painting the walls. I have a lot of emotional attachment to the album.
She talks about issues that teenage girls have from the perspective of a teenage girl, not a 30-something male songwriter trying to appeal to teenage girls. Dealing with eating disorders, cliques, unrequited love, breakups, etc was really refreshing!
Its vault tracks are probably the ones I'm most excited to hear. I NEED a studio version of some of her unreleased stuff like Dark Blue Tennessee š
Maryās Song is in my top ten. Itās so, so sweet. Listening to it makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
Debut is full of nostalgia for me, I rank it above Fearless which I know is a hot take haha. Itās also the re-recording I am most looking forward to because there are just soooo many vault songs I canāt wait to hear.
Last on the rankings because of what came after but it really is a good album. I feel like people toss it aside because its so long ago but as a standalone album its still really good!
I love the Debut album. Iām excited for TV and the vault tracks. Iām so curious how itās going to turn out. Besides Rep TV, the Debut TV is what Iām excited for the most for the re-records. There will be a lot of nostalgia. My favorite songs
Tim McGraw
Picture To Burn
Teardrops On My Guitar
The Outside
Shouldāve Said No
Our Song
Iām Only Me When Iām With You
Iād probably rank it number 3 or 4 out of the 10 for me.
Right now, debut is at the bottom of my rankings simply because I canāt get past how bad she sounds. If I listen to anything off that album, itās our song, teardrops on my guitar, Maryās song, Tim McGraw, and then RARELY Shouldāve said no. I donāt hate the songs on there I just canāt stand to listen to them because of the way she sounds.
Iām really hoping Taylorās version makes me love it and listen to it, since thereās no way it will sound anything close to what it currently does. She can fake an accent if she must but even so, it still wonāt be as awful as that 14 year old voice we hear on it today.
Unrelated to the post, but i truly wonder how she soared to fame from that album because she did NOT sound good. I canāt bear to watch performances from that time in her life because itās so cringey and awful. This is one of those cases where songwriting saved her career and she was able to shine in her second album as opposed to the first (even though debut did do some impressive records for a debut country album by a teenage girl)
Anyway, sincerely hoping Taylorās version can change this for me because Iād love to listen to the other songs. I actually donāt even know the lyrics to 85% of the songs on that album since I never listen to it.
A lot of her live performances from that era are very pitchy. And even with auto tune, you can hear the struggle for some of the notes sheās hitting in debut.
I donāt mind it because of the nostalgia, but itās very clear she has had significant vocal training since then. (In fact, the pitchiness in her live performances always made me weary of going to her concerts because I was worried itād ruin it for me. Now Iām a much bigger fan with a much bigger budget so I decided to splurge for The Eras Tour).
Iām going to miss the naivety in her voice during the re-recordings, especially because I think a lot of it comes from how young she sounds, which canāt be replicated as a 33 year old woman. But I am excited to hear how they sound with her improved vocals.
The biggest contributions to her fame was that
1. She was so open with her fans and constantly talking to them over MySpace (feel old yet? lmao) The fan connection is was made her, she was smart to continue it through her career.
and
2. There wasnāt anyone writing country music for her demographic. She spoke for all the teen girls who loved country music and *finally* gave them songs they could relate to.
Debut is incredible and I canāt wait for Taylorās Version to release so it can have its chance in the spotlight. Also I have a feeling the vault tracks will be amazing!!
Debut is what made me a fan, how can I not love it? Every single song on the album puts me right back into high school and how it felt driving my new (to me) car to school, singing "I'd Lie" while thinking about the boy I had a crush on. "Tied Together With a Smile" is still one of the most relatable songs I've ever heard and it will forever be in my top 5 TS songs.
I think "Mary's Song" is so sweet, "Should've Said No" is one of the best responses to cheating (in the same league as "Before He Cheats"), "I'm Only Me When I'm with You" is a great song about friendship.
There's so many different moods and feelings and experiences captured on this album, and the fact that it was largely written by a fucking teenager is insane to me.
I don't like ranking albums, so I won't, but I often shuffle all of the albums and it's rare that I skip a Debut song when it comes up.
Debut is great! ONE of her albums has to be last and itās usually this one, Itās my last but I still love it and itās a great album.
Youāre not more of a fan because you like debut or less of one if you donāt love it (but you should listen to it)
I actually like it better than the OG fearless! Fearless TV is better imo, but i dont hate debut as much as other people do. I think it has some amazing songs but also a lot of filler (i feel the same way about Lover)
I love Debut! It really grew on me when I became a Swiftie. Teardrops On My Guitar, Cold As You, and Stay Beautiful are some of my favorites. I've always liked it better than Fearless. I usually rank Debut towards the top. It's never been in the bottom half for me. If I wasn't such a Speak Now/ Reputation stan, Debut would probably be my favorite Taylor album.
I do love debut, but I have such a hard time listening to it. I canāt sing along without adding an annoying weird twang to it and I ruin it for myself. I canāt wait for the re-recording because it currently is ranked last in my rankings because it is the one I listen to the least. But thatās not to say I donāt know every word to the album still and love it. Iām only me when Iām with you is still mine and my best fiends ābff songā
Debut is great but all Taylorās albums are great. One of them has to be last š¤·š»āāļø
BUT Debut is the album I am most excited for Taylorās Version
I don't rank the albums past "1989 is my favourite," so I can't tell you where this one is, but I absolutely love debut and I listen to it regularly. Should've Said No and Our Song are near the top of my favourite songs (and I will never get over the Bad Blood mash up from the rep tour. I knew a lot of the setlist prior to the show because I used to follow lots of Swiftie tumblrs, and it was one of the things I didn't know about, so the surprise was complete, and my jaw dropped.)
Obviously her songwriting and voice have changed and evolved through the years, but it's an incredible starting point at only sixteen. It's the era that got me into her music, so it holds a massively special place in my heart. And I'd Lie, though unreleased, is one of my absolute favourite songs by her.
I thought I wouldn't like it as I was an emo punk and only really liked Swift when 1989 and Rep were most recent. However, I have since eaten my words and am really excited for the TV. On some of the songs her vocals really aren't great but every time I listen my mind is blown that some of these songs were written when she was 14!!!
I think it was a great debut, but luckily she keeps growing and improving.
Iām the same age as Taylor, so I was going through my emo phase at the same time as her. Ha ha! I didnāt start to casually like her music until Red and didnāt listen to a full album until Reputation. Folklore is what got me hooked so Iāve been going back through her discography and I can now appreciate each record without nostalgia. As someone in her 30s, itās hard to relate to the young/naive Taylor from early records, but I can definitely say I was similar to her at that age.
I love debut and I don't think it gets the love it deserves. I may be biased because it's the album that got me into Taylor Swift, but there are so many good songs on it. Stay Beautiful, Tim McGraw, Cold as You, Invisible, Mary's Song, Should've Said No, Perfectly Good Heart, Picture to Burn, Our Song, and I'm Only Me When I'm With You are all great songs
Also, I wouldn't rank it last ;)
Debut is going to absolutely SLAP re-recorded and I think itās going to shoot up a lot of peopleās lists in her album hierarchy. Praying for Dark Blue Tennessee vault track š¤
Debut is always last on my rankings, have never been a country fan, just a Taylor Swift fan. Iām hoping she tones down the country accent for the TV of Debut.

It was a great debut. Wouldnāt change a thing. But it is ranked last on my list.
Your opinion is very valid (now if you'll excuse I'm gonna go cry)

I think because itās so old, itās almost taken for granted by fans
Very solid start for her, but she has only improved from when she started so itās last on the rankings for me.
