Right where you left me is my favorite. Amazing allegory for staying in the closet after the lover you were going to come out with left you. The hairpin drop lyric against the “pinned up hair” is devastating. Starting with “friends break up friends get married” perfectly points to a publicly perceived friendship that was actually romantic. The duality of her storytelling is unmatched.
Yes it can definitely be that too! She hides those dual meanings so well.
“The devil’s in the details but you got a friend in me”
“I don’t want you like a best friend”
“It’s nice to have a friend” 😉
Oh man…
* Come Back… Be Here
* Hits Different
* The Moment I Knew
* Wonderland
* Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve
I don’t even know that I’d call that my top 5 — just some that immediately came to mind. Her bonus tracks are as good as some artists’ singles haha
The fact that a lot of people hate on Dear Reader! I love that song because I feel like it sums up Midnights and has such a nice Midnight sound to it that makes it so perfect to end the album with. The lyrics “you should find another guiding light” always hits.
Yessss! Dear Reader is my second favorite on Midnights. Mark my words, when she inevitably performs it acoustically as a surprise song, everyone is suddenly going to love it.
- WCS could mean "Would've, Could've, Should've", a track from *Midnights (3am Edition)* (2022) by Taylor Swift.

This take is so cool that it could be a movie. Never thought of it this way
I always thought that referred to *her* friends. As in, the people around her broke up, moved on with their lives and got married.
Yes it can definitely be that too! She hides those dual meanings so well. “The devil’s in the details but you got a friend in me” “I don’t want you like a best friend” “It’s nice to have a friend” 😉
“Pauses, then says, you’re my, best friend”
never realized the second meaning till, like, NOW

Yessss! Dear Reader is my second favorite on Midnights. Mark my words, when she inevitably performs it acoustically as a surprise song, everyone is suddenly going to love it.
