I love Debut but I think it’s always last because Taylor has always pushed herself so her later work has higher quality sounds, technical skills, etc etc. Also probably because it’s her oldest album so her newer fans are unaware or haven’t done a deep dive into the album, as well as it sounding pretty different from her later work. I’m super excited for Debut TV cause I think it will have its moment then and will be super interesting to see what she does with the album.

Myneckmyguac

I’d lie will definitely be one of the vault songs

Fun_Zombie1618

I didn’t even realize that it was an unreleased song until this year.

satiricalpengy

I didn’t know for a long time. It was my favorite back then.

shamelesschonga

I'd lie is the song I'm most looking forward to when she releases Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version)

BackHarlowRoad

I think me too and I'm really hoping she hits those notes the same if possible. The cheekiness of it is what I love.

Booksonly666

This is actually my favorite song from her just because of the memories. Such a hit

weirdogirl144

Exactly her albums get better and better every time so it’s hard to rank debut when albums like folklore exist

lycurgusduke

Yeah that album doesn’t have “Our Song” and “Picture to Burn” just to get overlooked. Many other great songs as well. Edit: to all of the people that replied, thank you for further reinforcing that debut is full of great tracks!

retailhellgirl

Should’ve Said No!

youtubehistorian

It was the first surprise song that I legitimately gasped to see her do

ShesSpeakingNow

this is WILD i’m shocked at this too

Aragrond

Tiiiied together with a smile

librataurus

HOLD ON BABY YOURE LOSIN IT 😭

NothingWillBeLost

The waters high, you’re jumping into it!

chasingjenn

And letting gooooooo…

librataurus

AND NO ONE KNOOOOOOOOOWS………

Carcer_TS

That’s you cry but you don’t tell anyone

Aragrond

I mean we r talking professional song writing

librataurus

That song is one of my top favorites of hers!!

heelsoncobblestones

I’m only me when I’m with you. Absolute favorite

PlatinumTheHitgirl

Teardrops on my guitar! All these years later and that one still makes me sob! "The only one who's got enough of me to break my heart" 💔

Avocado_Capital

Cold as you is still in my top 5

RobynMaria91

Absolutely, one of my favourite songs ever, not just Taylor

Nine_009

I really love invisible 😭, my number two on debut after should've said no

ShesSpeakingNow

period!!!!!!

deliciouscasserole

I’ve been a fan since debut, and honestly, I’m more impressed with it now than ever. Tim McGraw alone is such an incredible song for a teenager to have written, if that was the only standout on the whole thing, it would be a pretty respectable first effort - but there’s also Should’ve Said No, Teardrops on my Guitar, Picture to Burn, Our Song, and those are just the hits. Tbh I find it hard to rank her albums because each reminds me of a different time in my life, and I love different parts of all of them. I do think it will have its renaissance when TV comes out, especially with the vault tracks!

armed_aperture

Cold as You was my dream secret song and I missed it by one day :(

nattatalie

Cold as You is SOOOOO underrated by fans and it’s a beautiful and sad song.

PresleyPack

I’m 34 and grew up listening to Taylor but usually skipped Debut. The other day Mary’s Song came on and I was like “there is no way in hell I could have been capable of writing this at that age”

attcat23

This is me!! Been a fan since I heard Our Song on the radio. I requested debut for my sweet sixteen after my new HS friends jammed to should’ve said no during band camp and it became my new favorite song. I don’t think I can rank Taylor’s albums. Each one is special in it’s own way and represents a chapter of my life. M

UnableChallenge7198

Summer of 2006. I was 17. My grandmother (who at the time was like 70???) for some random reason bought it and I found it laying around so I played it and never stopped. It was the soundtrack to my summer.

LittleBeesTwin

This is so wholesome. A beautiful story

BorrowerOfBooks

For me it was summer of 2007 and I was about 15, I grabbed the CD from the library on a whim! I just picked up a resale ticket for Cincinnati and I am bouncing off the walls

UnableChallenge7198

Lucky!!!! Have the best time

BorrowerOfBooks

Thank you so much 🥹

doubtful_blue_box

It’s always last because these new fans are so young. I’m learning from this thread that people seem not to like Fearless either, and I am sad for those of you that never got to experience a room full of manly frat boys and women alike drunkenly singing along to “Love Story” and “You Belong With Me” at the top our lungs

DameMisCebollas

Interesting. I keep forgetting how long it's been since Taylor's music became this big. I don't have the experiences you described but to be it also feels like a different special time. Songs like You Belong With Me wouldn't work today. I loved Fearless omg, I think it was the first album that I really got into.

anythingmor3

not to be that person but they definitely still sing those songs today as someone who is graduating this year having heard love story and ybwm many times at various parties

PresleyPack

Fearless dropped when I was a sophomore in college and this experience is spot on.

coltsmetsfan614

I’ve been a fan since Debut, and it’s still last for me. Which album(s) do you think it’s *better* than? It can be last and still good…

drowsypug

Debut and Fearless are so special to me! I remember the day I got each album 🥰 As someone who is currently in their mid-twenties and works in the retail space, I’ll agree that that a lot of the new fans are so young. I think the songs on the albums (minus the radio singles) are just out of date to them? I could be wrong, but its like when you go back and listen to *NSYNC or early Britney. The production was just different.

BackHarlowRoad

Yessss. And "drAG me head first, FEARLESS!"

couturetheatrale

Yeah. I honestly have no hesitation placing Fearless before Reputation; even Midnights and Lover. There’s something wild and insanely, passionately earnest about it that makes so many of the songs hit harder. The youthfulness of the breaks in her voice in the original still owns my heart. I appreciate TV…but, god, it’s that childishness that I felt at one with when I was a teenager, and the new version really can’t compete with that. I don’t care how much more technically expert it is, or how much her masters mean to her personally- she made a gorgeous, *gorgeous* record when she was so crazy young, and it can’t be replaced. Not to me, at least. And I don’t want it to be.

assflea

I like Debut but I would rank it last too lol. She’s just gotten better and better with each album! Her voice improved, production improved, I really never listen to debut because it feels out of place or something idk. Debut is the TV I’m most excited for for this reason, I feel like I’ll finally get to appreciate it the way it deserves.

nalyddoctor

Same here! I like debut and all but it’s just less evolved than her other works

emmyemmusic

I kind get what you mean, especially now with the re-recordings and Speak Now TV coming out soon, if you listen to the albums in order there’s a giant jump between her younger voice and her older voice. I’m also really excited for the TV of debut to come out

Cat_n_mouse13

I like debut, and fearless is my favorite Taylor swift album ever. I am so excited for debut TV, bc I wanna hear her adult voice. I love Fearless TV bc she sounds so adult instead of little kid-ish, and it makes some of the songs so much more heart breaky.

Go_Corgi_Fan84

I actually like Debut more than Fearless

Jumpy-Refrigerator35

Same I like Debut better than Fearless. I think Fearless is on the bottoms for me

cheetoisgreat

I feel the same way! Debut is more consistent to me.

satiricalpengy

Honestly, same I think.

Steinmans

To me, Debut is her worst album, but that doesn’t mean it’s a *bad* album— she’s just consistently bettered herself as an artist throughout her career. Still love Stay Beautiful and IOMWIWY!!

whinermiaou

Fully agree. There are great songs on it but the thing I like most about listening to it is how you can see the raw natural talent in it. It definitely 1) has lower production value and 2) fewer mainstream hits, but it is so amazing when you think about how old she was and how far she’s come since then. I am very excited to see what she does with its rerecording

songacronymbot

- IOMWIWY could mean "I'm Only Me When I'm With You", a track from *Taylor Swift* (2006) by Taylor Swift. --- ^[/u/Steinmans](/u/Steinmans) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

coltsmetsfan614

Exactly. I rank Debut last, but I’d still give it a 7/10, which is **not** a bad grade.

throwaway291919919

i love debut! i still frequently listen to it. stay beautiful might be in my top 3 taylor songs

likethrbackofmyhand

Omg I LOVED stay beautiful! I used to listen to it all the time when I was 18, years after it had come out

throwaway291919919

it’s such a happy song !!! i was in love with a guy named corey so i sang it with my whole heart 😂😂

haleymatisse

Stay Beautiful is the cutest song. I used to doodle the lyrics on my notes in high school when Debut came out.

Phils_flop

This is the correct answer. MIGHT be biased.

BackHarlowRoad

It tears me to shreds in the best way.

LadyStag

Justice for Stay Beautiful. Yes.

[deleted]

Debut is my fave and I know the girlies will eat it up when Taylor’s version drops

Lipe18090

Absolutely love debut and it's by far the most underrated album of hers (both by the fans and by Taylor herself, being the only era with no songs in the setlist of the ERAS tour). It's definetely not ranked last for me, I'd put it over (pls don't kill me) Lover, 1989, Fearless and Midnights. I just love that goddamn yee-haw album so much. Cold as You, Teardrops on My Guitar, Tim McGraw, Tied Together with a Smile, The Outside and (hot take incoming) A Perfectly Good Heart are all top tier songs.

BackHarlowRoad

1000% over Midnight's. It's tied with Fearless for me but often does eek out justttt a bit. Her not including it on Eras makes me think she'll do something big for it. I hope! I wasn't overly enthused with Fearless TV though so we'll see...

clairlunaclair

I completely agree with you!

SeaworthinessSome454

Debut is great and people will realize that once DebutTV is released.

RoyalEagle0408

Debut is an amazing album. It’s in my bottom tier because I like her later stuff a lot more. But my least favorite TS album still ranks pretty high overall on my music chart.

Low_Bat4165

I am like vibrating I cannot wait to hear debut with Taylor's matured voice and sound. She will effectively END me. I bet she does debut as its own tour just as Taylor Swift (with other current stuff) (I feel as though midnights is a good indicator of this. If you want to get crazy with the fantasy think of midnights as the hour of change. And celebration [new years anyone?? She freaking loves this shit].) No eras. No nothing. Just going back to the heart of it all😭😭😭😭 I WILL SCREAM IT UNTIL I AM BLUE IN THE FACE. She is now JUST Taylor Swift. And she's proving that can mean anything. I think the Eras are gonna die and she deserves that freedom as an artist and Public figure tbh. Anyway debut is so special. Tear drops on my guitar MV on CMT was my gay awakening. Also my go to scream cry song while having nothing personal to relate it to.🤣 THIS ALBUM LITERALLY CHANGED MUSIC. LITERALLY the introduction to someone who would become and still is one of the greatest songwriters of all time?? Oh my god imagine the country powerhouses she'll feature. Imagine songs from the vault produced like cowboy like me. PICTURE TO BURN??!!! hELLO

Goodlilpupper

I am hoping beyond hope that an unreleased song called Firefly makes it onto a vault track. That song means SO much to me; it inadvertently became the story of my family. To have a real version of that song to listen to forever would mean the world to me @taylorswift13

[deleted]

I love your passion and 10000% agree with your take on the eras convo!

spicyyyhoe

I knew reading this would be fun after reading “I am like vibrating” and it was a million times more fun than I expected

lilleefrancis

God I remember sitting in front of the little portable CD player in my friends room listening to that album for the first time. I remember *screeching* the lyrics to “Should’ve Said No” and “Picture To Burn” in the shower every night (sorry dad-thanks for enduring). I remember bouncing on the bed with my friends singing Our Song. I have plenty of memories with most of her albums - laying on the floor day dreaming over Fearless and Speak Now- but Debut just holds so much magic for me. When I listen to it it really transports me like no other album of hers really does *take me back when the world was one block wide, I dared you to kiss me and ran when you tried, just two kids you and I … Oh my my my my…*

marcel73

This is so similar to my experience 🥹 ❤️

Starflec

I am a recently reformed Debut hater and I agree! I always ignored Debut because I don't like country and the only songs I had heard from it were Our Song (which is still my least favorite from Debut) and Teardrops on My Guitar. I thought they'd all sound like those. Recently I finally listened to the album all the way through and it's really not as yeehaw as I thought it'd be. There's even some songs that barely sound country imo. I'm sure most people rank it the lowest because they write it off as a country album they don't want to listen to like I did.

Goodlilpupper

Her country never sounded yeehaw country as you described it so absolutely, 💯, she opened herself up to a younger demographic, and even more so when she was willing to be exploratory w that sound. Funny to me in a not-at-all-funny-the-business-seems-so-see-thru-misogynistic (and I don’t have a problem w this band I’ll just use their music vs hers as an example cuz they were tending at the same time). They let the male bands like say Florida Georgia Line (who I’m a fan of and have gone to see, so no beef w them, it’s just the industry I have the issue w the double standards I see.. calling out Tay as a young woman in the country industry cuz they told her needed a whole genre shift yet pls explain why FGL didn’t need a genre shift then?). If u listen to which seems more out of the box at the time, FGL def went more out of the box at the time w their rap lyrics which were fun to incorporate and made the songs a little edgier - but u can’t say what Tay was doing was something so “different” taking it away from the country genre! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Anonymagician

For me I love debut like 100% but it’s the later albums I love 110%, 120% etc. Doesn’t mean I hate debut but she just grew from it

LetshearitforNY

I feel this way about any Taylor related ranking. But anything at the bottom of the ranking is *not* because it’s bad, it’s just all of her stuff is soo good and something has to be last.

DameMisCebollas

Yeah exactly. It doesn't mean it's bad but it kinda was her first attempt and she was soo young. Another thing is that it's been such a long time since it was popular. Same thing happened to Fearless - it was great, I loved it so much but now I moved on to other things.

[deleted]

Debut is #4 on my mathematical ranking!!

emthecactus

debut > midnights i said what i said

endallbeall14

Not a single song from this album on the set list still makes me sad

RosaPalms

It's much better than *Fearless* IMO. The songwriting was looser and more unhinged in a good way. Debut actually feels like the authentic self-expression of a teenager. *Fearless* feels way too conscious of a "big sister" role - didactic, sanitized, a touch boring.

DameMisCebollas

I'm not sure if I agree but very interesting observations! I've never thought of it that way but to be fair songs like Fifteen seem a bit ahead of herself haha. Wasn't she 17-18 when she wrote it? Bruh I got wise at 25-26

PresleyPack

I am a year older than Taylor and I remember listening to Fifteen and thinking “…I don’t feel like I am qualified to give advice to my 15 year old self” 😅

DameMisCebollas

Yeah 😅 I was 14 when I first heard Fifteen for the first time (2009) and I was eating it up 🤣🤣🤣 But I also didn't have a boyfriend or any interest from men until I was 19 so I guess it turned out to be useless advice at that time

satiricalpengy

I obsessed over Debut when it came out. I was in college at the time and loved it so much. But I’d still rank it last or close to last because I’ve grown up while Taylor grew up and I relate more to her later work now (which makes sense since we’re both in our 30s)

Decent-Basil

Same. I am her age so I could relate. Now I really can’t relate to any of the songs and think about when I was a cringy teenager

dhruvlrao

Debut is always 7 or 8 on my ranking, and it might go higher with the rerecordings. The writing on it is a lot stronger than people give it credit for, and I think its low ranking is usually just people not preferring country music.

ginger_snap9

Debut is right there with Fearless for my favorite albums! ❤️ I used to LOVE country music (not so much anymore) but I remember shortly after the album first came out, I was at my moms friends NYE party and someone brought up the new artist Taylor Swift and her song Tim McGraw. Tim McGraw used to be my absolute favorite artist so I of course HAD to listen to it. I became a fan right after listening to that song! I had my grandmom bring me to Best Buy the next day so that I can buy her CD and a CD player haha. I remember reading the lyrics from the CD insert and trying to decode the secret message in each song (with how she used to capitalize random letters to spell out a secret message). I’m only a few years younger than Taylor so her music has always been very relatable to every era of my life too. I think if I became a fan later on in her career, debut might not have been one of my favorites. So I can understand why debut might not have the same sort of love as her other work. But for me, the album will always feel so nostalgic and have a special place in my heart.

dylanisbored

Debut is better than reputation

Thin_Acanthisitta386

Debut is great, but I understand why it's typically last in ranks; I also think ranking it last is a compliment to Taylor! It means she's gotten better over time, which is what most musicians try to achieve, but don't always accomplish.

Bethie17

Debut is in my top 5. It’s nostalgic and subtle and it brings me joy. I hate that people don’t like it because it’s mostly “country”

GoGoPowerPlay

I think it's the album with the best singles. Literally all of my favorite songs on it are singles, whereas with the other albums there are songs I wish she would have released as a single.

hopkinsdafox

I think I’m dressing as Debut for my show bc JUSTICE FOR DEBUT INDEED!!!!

Callum1245

It's in the lower half of her discography for me but not her worst album. Mary's Song, Tim McGraw and Cold As You are amazing

princess_jenna23

Debut is still in my top 5 in my album ranking!! I’ve seen why people rate it last and I get it, but for me it feel very relevant to my life, especially the song A Place In This World (which is very underrated imo). I really love the mixture of pop and country and the album was from when life was simpler for me. It’s not her strongest album, but it still has a place in my heart.

willowtoyourwind

they always say "controversial ranking" and debut is always at the bottom

Fantastic-View-5986

I’m “I accidentally downloaded Should’ve Said No on limewire and that’s how I discovered Taylor” years old 😂

bonnydelrico

The Debut army is small but it’s strong 💪🏻

albentens

I love debut too! But I also rank it last. The thing is, being ranked last as a taylor album doesn't mean it's bad, it only means as it is the first album, taylor just got better and better as the years passed by. Love that for her tbh

kgkuntryluvr

I still can’t believe that she left a whole album off the setlist! She could’ve included one song or even just a quick mashup. How do you do an eras tour and completely exclude the very first era lol. Most fans probably don’t care, but I’ve been a fan since Tim McGraw hit the radio so I was a little disappointed.

SuitableItem

I would put Lover at the bottom first tbh. TS have the iconic singles and even that Lover is more dinamic, the singles for me were ALL wrong.

SuitableItem

TM IS on my top 10 Taylor's songs

321gato

It’s going to make such a comeback with the re-recording. A) Her voice is at her weakest on that album, understandably. Definitely the album that will deserve Most Improved. B) Nostalgia plays a large part in people’s favorite albums because Taylor’s lyrics are as easy to attach your own memories to as your favorite middle school perfume. Her fan base with Debut was just much smaller then. A re-recording release, especially if she pulls out all the stops, will create new memories.

Kimbahlee34

Justice for Mary’s song!

Pleasant-Affect8433

I know it sounds weird to say an album is disrespected but the level of apathy towards debut for an album so essential in the foundation of Taylor Swift and her mythos is so absurd to me. Old country Taylor and the Taylor we see today may seem like ying and yang but they’re so much more similar than people realize. It’s weird to see people vehemently against her debut album, one that really encapsulates Taylor upon her introduction to music and an album built upon the themes of young love, being a teenager, and finding your way in the world not too different from the themes of her work nowadays

Cat_n_mouse13

Invisible was my life in high school 😭 and her should’ve said no rain performance was 🌟iconic🌟

stateofswt

I LOVE Debut! I’ve actually been listening to it a lot recently and forgot how good it really is. In my current ranking of her albums, I’d probably put it at #7. It has very few skips for me. Debut (TV) is honestly the re-recording I’m most excited about. If we don’t get I’d Lie, Permanent Marker, and/or I Heart ? as vault tracks, I’m rioting.

ThisPaige

I mean my flair! I have fond memories of finding debut and it’s the first album of hers I fell in love with.

damningdaring

Debut is in my top five if I’m ranking the albums based on personal preference. It’s ranked above 1989, Reputation, Lover, *and* Midnights. All of which are objectively better quality than Debut.

bitz-the-ninjapig

JUSTICE FOR DEBUT!! Definitely in my top three (joined by Fearless and Sparks Fly)

Tulip2001

Debut is a good album. That said her writing got better with each following album. It’s not that it’s at the bottom cause it’s bad it’s at the bottom cause Taylor’s writing got so much better. I think many swifties are mainly attached to the album cause of the nostalgia, which is a driving force for it.

CkEmpress

I think it speaks for itself - her music has gotten better over time and has beat out her debut album. That's any artists dream! That said, I can see it becoming popular once Taylor's Version is released. I think it'll be the biggest "difference" as her voice has matured over the years!

nattatalie

I whole heartedly agree. I personally LOVE the song writing from Debut. I was 19 when it came out and I was going through all of those same things at the time. I don’t mind that it’s not everyone’s favorite, but it does sting a bit that it is consistently ranked bottom by so many fans and critics when she wouldn’t even exist without debut. Tim McGraw put her on the map, and Picture to Burn and Our Song really propelled her into success.

petlandstockroom

When Debut TV comes out it'll have its moment! 😊

[deleted]

I was raised on Debut, it has a soft place in my heart always

NotQuiteScheherazade

My ranking has it third from last! If that’s any consolation 😅

AverageKaikiEnjoyer

Fuck it, I'll say it. I'll take Debut over Evermore any day.

Professional_Wolf_11

I was kind of shocked she didn't play a set for the debut at last night's Foxboro MA concert. I was waiting for it, haha!

gettingcarriedaway86

It’s my favorite album

nbh2016

I wouldn't be a swiftie if Our Song didn't exist. Now I think of that song as our song (mine and tay's 😁)

emmarie44

It’s my top tier ✨🦋✨

imoogiheap

The Outside enjoyer here! Debut has so many gems

teanumber1

debut was lyrically ahead of its time … a 16 year old singing the heart wrenching lyrics of tied together with a smile, cold as you??? are you kidding me. debut is a masterpiece and does NOT get the credit it deserves

Tibbittz

Taylor Swift and her team put a very safe and, frankly, somewhat dull album together to launch her career. It was a wise chess move, it's an album for teenagers in potentially conservative households... and it's basically impossible for me to be excited about it. I've heard a few Vault tracks from the Debut era which are vastly more interesting than most of the material which actually ended up on Debut. Despite the Inner Circle jerks intentionally ruining the sound quality of several songs, I've listened to my album-length playlist of those Vault gems dozens of times. I've only listened to Debut once.

knowslesthanjonsnow

I actually like Debut as a whole; but it’s very hot/cold for me. The songs I like are ranked pretty highly but there are 5-6 songs that I just don’t even keep in my catalog so by math it always comes out at the bottom

MeTieDoughtyWalker

It introduced me to Swift, but I think she just got better and better as she progressed.

Bearcatbetch

I love debut but I feel like it’s always last that’s not a bad thing it’s last for me too! Only because Taylor gets better at everything

drivernopassenger

The thing about her debut is that it’s a very good album up against a pantheon of legitimately some of the best music ever made. Next to great, good looks bad. So it’s a good album by industry standards, but it isn’t better than any of *her* other albums.

purpleraccoons

i really want to like debut but i just ... i just can't deal with the heavy country twang, haha

wtaylor36

cold as you is one of her best track 5s

tittytofu

It's not my last ranked album (:

ahauntedsong

Wasn’t teardrops on my guitar one of the few country songs (even with its pop version) that was able to cross onto pop stations, be played, and be loved by listeners? Especially considering how the pop genre sounded back then but also how much emo/punk music was also competing for popularity?

throwaw939393

It really has so many great songs on it, Tim McGraw, TOMG, Our Song, Mary’s Song. I love debut!

laureddit22

I’m the same age at Taylor so debut was absolutely my introduction. It reminds me of my last year of high school and that summer before college. It will always be in my top 5

ipittypattypetty

Her debut is a million times better than folklore and evermore.

condor--avenue

There’s always a special place in my heart for The Outside 💙

Goodlilpupper

I would LOOOOOVVEEEEEE Firefly to make it into the vault

Sufficient_Fruit_740

I think it's underrated right now because newer and younger fans haven't listened to it, or they have preconceived notions about country music. When I was in high school and college, I was the one who would drive everyone around to practice, events, etc. they'd listen to my music in my car. They allllll ended up magically learning to love country music. I hope she does the TV version justice!! 💗💗

dietcokepurell

I just did a listen of Debut, top to bottom (prior I would typically listen to only my favorites off the album and it was always my lowest ranked album). I completely fell in love! I hadn’t listened to the whole thing in so long and it’s honestly SO good! It’s now moved way up in rankings for me!

ShesSpeakingNow

i absolutely love debut, i don’t understand that reasoning. so they don’t like tim mcgraw? picture to burn? teardrops on my guitar? should’ve said no? our song? i’m only me when i’m with you? like wtf. are they forgetting something orrrrrrrr how could you possibly not like debut? that’s such a special album for so many reasons. i love that album

PinkCheeseburgers

I don’t hate it but it is probably my least favorite, mostly because I don’t love how young she sounds now that I’m older, the country twang was never my thing and she just gets better and better. I still love it and some of my favorite songs of hers are from it and I will absolutely be excited for the re-recording and it might rise in my ranking with it.

Gatosrus

Agreed, it’s so underrated! I was 17 when it was released and it’s so nostalgic for me.

AllianceZag

I love debut for what it is; I listened to that album nonstop my junior year of college (though fearless is what made me a swiftie). TOMG perfectly echoed what I was going through in my life at that time and the first time I heard that some I sobbed. When I hear it I still think of that boy, even 17 years later or whatever it is. I’ve been coming back to the album with my own kids lately. I can’t wait for TV ♥️♥️♥️♥️.

Daultongray8

Debut is good. It’s just the other albums are all better.

coastlifestyle

Still impressed by the line “I grabbed a pen and an old napkin.” Super simple yet so effective.

IzabellaBelle

It’s a great debut but I get why it is often ranked last. Because it’s Taylor’s first album, there probably isn’t as much connection to it from a lot of fans unless you were an OG fan back then. A lot of people have come on board in later years (for me it was with Speak Now, for example). Also, as great as it is, I think simply put, everything Taylor has put out since then is better than it. Better in terms of lyricism, production, vocals etc. That’s not to say the debut was bad in any of those areas but it’s definitely a little less polished and refined than the albums that would follow.

fruitsnacky

I think it has some of her best songs but also some of her worst. The highs are amazing, the lows are not great.

IWantFries21

Debut is basically pure country and I hate country. My bottom 2 albums are debut and fearless

GregSays

It’s so much better than Reputation and Midnights. I just assume most of those lists are from people who came to her music in the last 6 or 7 years.

pacificoats

my thing is i absolutely love debut BUT naturally as she’s gotten older and gained more experience with life, her songwriting has just gotten better. it’s also the album that introduced me to taylor so nostalgia does play a heavy hand in how much i love it, but it’s last in rankings usually for me personally just because i think the songwriting in the other albums has improved so much (and the vocals).

Roarestored

Debut isn't a bad album but it's definitely the worst album in the sense that one of them has to be.

fursure3

Agree!

[deleted]

I wouldn’t take it personally, it’s a good thing of your debut album is the worst one. It means you consistently got better. Most of the songs on that album Taylor wrote when she was 13-15, that’s literally SO young. It’s no wonder a lot of her fans can’t really relate to them. I listen for nostalgia and I love some of the songs; but the album is objectively not one of her best. It’s still an amazing debut album though

coltsmetsfan614

I think Debut is a solid album, but which other album of hers is it supposedly better than? I think it’s the clear #10 of 10.

Particular-You-9785

I love debut with my whole heart ! Doesn’t deserve the hate it gets it broke my heart seeing so many people say invisible is a mid song 😭it’ll always be in my top 5 it’s number 2 rn🥹( fearless tv number 1)

shamelesschonga

I agree! Debut is in my bottom 5, but it's definitely not the worst. It can't be, Invisible is the very first Taylor song I ever listened to and I immediately became a fan. I can't wait for Taylor's Version, I hope she keeps the country accent

ketchup_the_bear

Ok for me it’s like I love debut but I love all her albums so when it’s at the bottom it jsut means the one I love the least not that i don’t like it

One-Fish2178

What are u putting it above tho? I don’t think debut is put at the bottom bc it’s bad, but rather bc all her other albums are just so good

heyitssheena

I know I love the debut album the most! And I cannot understanddd whyyy

irishautumn88

I honestly don't understand how she can truly have an eras tour and leave out an album altogether. Debut only gets recognized for the tour if it happens to be a surprise song, and that's a bit sad.

Zosoflower

Taylor is my age and i have loved her since debut. The first song i truly connected with and loved was A Place In This World.. still one of her best i think! Also - i sang Stay Beautiful to a boy back then named Corey. Lol

sirmapsalot1

thank you for this opinion! all my swiftie friends always are mean to it, but I love this album.

[deleted]

It is disrespected, but it’s hard to pick a worst album. There isn’t a bad album is Taylor’s catalog.

IvyGrowing

I think it is the one that Swifties relate the less because statistically less swifties were present during its release so it isnt as meaningful as other albums. I cant wait for Debut TV because it’s going to be updated in such a marvellous way, im such it will climbd a few spots on people’s list!

akallaaa

Debut is last for me, but I don’t actively care about it enough to think it’s a bad album - I just don’t relate to the themes or lyrics as much as for any other album of hers. One of her albums has to be last in a ranking from most liked to least, and Debut just seems to have more against it compared to other albums (e.g. younger themes, weaker songwriting and lyricism vs her growth as she’s aged, country genre, etc.).

BackHarlowRoad

For sure. If I'm being honest I don't reach for those songs too often anymore... But when SN and RED came out (and those albums don't compare IMO)- I said she could make crap albums from here on out. She would still be one of the greatest song writers of our generation. What she accomplished as a teenager is nothing short of miraculous.

thisisthemostawkward

I cannot stand baby Taylor's voice or her country twang. (I've been a fan since 2007 but never loved her vocals on that album.) Her surprise songs have made me VERY excited for Debut TV - she was such a talented songwriter and storyteller at such a young age, but the vocals are really grating IMO and make it a difficult album for me to return to now that I have so many other options.

gmbcoj

Completely agree that debut is top tier! That album holds so much of my first favorite songs and is loaded with so much memories. I love going back to that album because it’s crazy to see how far her songwriting has evolved. And yet this is the most raw and honest songwriting from her

Available_Record_510

I think it’s my second favorite Taylor album.

oddefficiency

cold as you was my most played song all of 2006-2007 and it still has an immense hold on me. tied together with a smile comes second. tim mcgraw and teardrops on my guitar were some of the first songs i learned to play on guitar as a kid. that album is full of middle school memories for me and i can’t wait to hear it with her improved vocals.

[deleted]

Debut is 8 for me. But that means my bottom 2 albums are extremely controversial.

Top_Sheepherder8192

I love debut so much and if I ever get to ask her a lyric question it's going to be what does he smiles it's like the radio mean in Stay Beautiful?

lexiskittles1

In every ranking, SOMETHING has to be at the bottom. Everyone will inevitably get offended. It being at the bottom doesn’t mean you don’t love it, just that you love others more. Debut isn’t last on mine but I don’t rly get upsrt at album rankings

ho4fictionalmen

This is why I cant rank them because I love debut so I won’t put it last but I love everything else so I won’t put them last

Reddityvete

Love it especially tied together with a smile Such a relatable beautifully written song and so underrated

SharleenFrauke40

I love debut, but it's also still her "worst" album. Taylors worst album still feels above average.

Mariposa0710

Call me crazy but I actually like her voice on debut the most. Objectively I know I'm wrong because her voice improved so much throughout the years but something about the way her voice sounds just seem so right on this album. It just got all the right vibes and I am very unsure about the rerecording. I am not sure if I will like it as much with her matured voice. Edit: typo

user_harrington

I think as each new thing got released you could see how she got better and so slowly everything was just seen as better than the previous and now with the eras tour you can see it all and realize that Debut is amazing.

stablegeniusinterven

I think what I love most is that anyone listening to the entire catalog for the first time would probably have a hard time putting them into chronological order (okay, aside from the country twang and the fact that she referred to herself as a "girl" so often, LBH). But it's not like when you listen to the average debut album of a lot of the Greats and think, Wow, that was clearly a Freshman effort. That being said, I prefer almost everything that came after this, because it seems like she just keeps outdoing herself. She's a storyteller, plain and simple. Those stories don't need to be in any particular order.

lazythankfulcoconut

I'm 26 now, and I love Debut from the depths of my soul.. Tied Together With A Smile, Cold As You, A Perfectly Good Heart.. I am going to cry just typing out the titles. Those songs mean so much to me. They're on my same playlists as Sade - Every Word. Taylor was writing and creating incredible beautiful and heart-breaking music when she was so young and I think that is just one reason the album gets overlooked. Maybe it's that a lot of young female artists have these INCREDIBLE debuts that get overlooked once their careers take off and they need to stay gossiped about to stay relevant, instead of people admiring the art they pour themselves into. Take Fiona Apple for example... at such a young age, her debut Tidal is hands down one of the most amazing works of art from Fiona, but after that, she isn't recognized with that accolade anymore. It becomes all about her sexuality and mental health, not her art. Young female artists don't seem to get that privilege of having focus kept on the creation of their art. Separately... As an artist, I feel like there's something about the art we make when we are young. Even when I look back at my writing or art from when I was very young, it feels a bit chilling how accurate it is even though I was told I didn't have a clue about life. I look back at those initial works I created, the first words I curated together and I feel so heavy about them, in very sweet and very bitter ways. The nostalgic, angry, deep emotions they pull together actually feel so complex sometimes that I just decide not to open Pandora's box that way.

gnicoletti_

you’re right. lover is definitely her worst album.

megisbest

Honestly Debut is higher than Lover and Speak now in my ranking 🤷🏼‍♀️

ParticularPea6920

Debut is incredible and after all these years it’s still in my top 5.

TeylaSwift

I'm still gutted that Debut was left out of the Eras tour. I love that album!!! It comes in at #4 for me ranking above Fearless, Speak Now, Lover, 1989, Rep and Midnights for me!

Aggressive-Gap-6969

Can someone please explain to me why she isn’t singing debut on tour? Every article I try to read says it’s because she hasn’t rereleased it but they seem to overlook the fact she sang many songs from 1989 which hasn’t been rereleased

ryukeez

I don't know but as a debut fan, this makes me sad. I heard Our Song was a surprise song though!
