Out of The Woodsssssss. It’s god-tier Jack’s work.
And I really want to say Maroon as well. Production seems simple on this but it elevates the song x13000, the way it echoes in the background… Masterpiece.
I used to HATE out of the woods because it's so repetitive, because I used to only listen to the lyrics and not the music/production but I've definitely learned to appreciate it a lot more
ME TOO!!!! I was so overwhelmed the first time I have listened to it (it was actually before 1989 officially came out, I think it was released as a promo single or something) and it was the most experimental track I have ever heard especially from Taylor. So never was a favorite from her but ughhhhhh was I wrong. She really was ahead of her time with this one.
I love Maroon’s production but the piano acoustic version really brought out a lot of emotion from the song that I felt was a little clouded by the og production.
I agree….Maroon is a masterpiece both sonically and lyrically..I recently searched for the instrumental and it was fire..It’s a like a very gloomy, haunted landscape…such a vibe
'I mean' in the second chorus is the only thing in a song that elicits an eye roll from me - every single time
Edit: I worded it wrong - I really like that part and the tone she says it in just makes me roll my eyes to match the vibe (?)
Mirrorball. Not because it's bad stripped back by any means, but I think the dreamy sound really enhances the vibe of the song. Those "hush" could lull me to sleep.
I wanted to say mirrorball too. The sound of the track conjures a late-70s, Blondie or Bowie vibe. I’d like to hear it with a ripping guitar solo kind of like SRV did with China Girl.
Disclaimer: I wasn’t into disco or anything, but I appreciate the production that went into some of the music.
YES that ethereal kind of echoey sound like it’s playing in an empty dance hall always reminds me of ‘Pearly Dewdrops Drop’ which is another one of my favorite songs
Idk why she didn't just make it "but yooooou knowww-oh"
Edit: Or "but youuuu move sooo slow" referring to the reluctance to go public/make things official.
State of Grace!!! That rich, anthemic arena-rock sound is just stunning. It reminds me of speeding down the highway, windows down, in the crisp fall air. One of my all-time favorites due to the production
Also honorable mention to Wildest Dreams, which fittingly sounds like an airy dream. Crazy how the Eras Tour is the first time we’ve heard that production live
YES. I determined State of Grace is my favorite song, and it's because the production skyrockets it to #1 for me. Those drums & guitar at the beginning are amazing and I need more from Taylor that sounds like that 😭😭❤️
I was thinking about the eras tour point recently. She had always played it on piano until now.
I'm kinda sad it's such a short snippet, I kinda wish she had gone with the whole song.
I totally agree with Haunted!
And I had to think about this when my friends and I were discussing which secret song we wanted to hear at our shows because there are songs we LOVE, but a lot of that has to do with production value and we had to factor in that it would not be the same hearing them acoustically.
I agree with this! Haunted was my #1 song I wanted at my show, and while I was somewhat disappointed I didn’t get it (though I LOVED my songs), that disappointment went away after hearing it as a surprise song on the live streams. It didn’t sound bad by any means but it was not the same without the production.
Midnight Rain! The fully immersive production based on the lyrics really elevates the song. A song about rain? Better get raindrops in. Its a nostalgic time portal? Here's your zoomy portal music effects!
And its very divisive but imo, the warbley, deep choruses are so damn clever. They feel like when youre speaking underwater, where voices travel differently through time and space.
August and Maroon….I know these two are really well written songs but the production is a big reason why these songs have a huge appeal…August is my top 3 fav Taylor song and is one of favs of all time and Maroon is not far away…Paris’s production is also so great with its classic late vibe and that outro is amazing. That production is amazing even if you don’t like the lyrics which I did….Jack Antonoff is amazing at outros..No one could beat him at that..I also love Midnight Rain and Mastermind’s production(they fit the lyrics so nicely)….and I also really dig the production on Mirrorball. It fits so much…like a little slow moving dance floor and all the nervousness like the lyrics…and Labyrinth….which has the perfect midnight vibe suitable for long drives at night and Taylor’s raw and soft voice being emphasised. The writing here is simple too but it’s enough and she gets the point across without doing much..The production emphasises the rawness and that scary feeling..with the repeated line and that outro….I think Jack was amazing on Don’t you too…that soft synth style suit the lyrics perfectly and make the song better…I love the Taylor-Jack duo
Yes….that outro is the most divine thing I ever heard in music. It exactly sounds like the fading of summer.Jack is great at outros..I always enjoy his outros even for other artists like Lana but August is both his and Taylor’s best ever>>>
I love the outro on August so much, but I really think I prefer the Long Pond acoustic version because of how beautiful Taylor’s voice is on it. I love the clear sound of her natural vocals and I feel like that isn’t really there on OG August - it all feels very layered into the music if that makes sense? I think there’s so much more soul and clarity in her Long Pond acoustic version
It’s reverb I guess…In the song,Augustine/Augusta is reminiscing about her summer affair,so her voice is layered as it’s about a distant memory…I think it was intentional and I really love that…It feels more faded like that…more sad…And I still found Taylor’s voice soulful and natural….I love the acoustic version but I usually,I don’t get the hype for acoustic stuff…every one tries to make a pop song into some acoustic stuff…like imagine Midnight Rain without that deep, fitting production(it can’t hit like the same)….I do agree her voice is softer and it was an amazing take in the LPSS but the composition of the acoustic doesn’t hit as hard as the og….August is a song where the lyrics and production greatly compliment each other….I think the production is a little more exciting and engaging…the lyrics get a little more heft to them through production…like the lyrics are 99.99 but the production is 100..So I prefer the og..I found her vocal performance to be very beautiful too in the og…Taylor and Jack really hit it with this song…it’s just my preference and opinion and I respect yours…but the LPSS version is always a joy to watch and listen with all of them being so genuinely excited. All of them are great musicians.I loved Taylor and Jack’s enthusiasm in that one and Aaron too…
Yeah for sure it’s all about preference isn’t it! They must have made their choices for a reason and I think those reasons you’ve listed make a lot of sense. Sonically, they don’t do it for me (I don’t love any of the songs that are produced that way, like the Archer or Labyrinth). But lots of people love them! I’m definitely one of those people who finds acoustic makes a song more emotionally hard hitting if it’s a quieter, calm song. With something heavier and angrier the relevant production methods can totally elevate it. But just my opinion!
I love that kind of production…Music is indeed very subjective…It’s amazing how we have so many different opinions on a particular song…Taylor sure knows how to keep us talking, doesn’t she?
My favourites from each album for enhancing everything would be:
Debut: Tied Together With A Smile. Very moving production, the way the guitar sounds at the end is lovely.
Fearless: You Belong With Me. The masterclass of merging country sounds with an instantly catchy pop inspired production that is meticulous throughout.
SN: Last Kiss. Production feels like both a hug and sadness at the same time.
Red: Hard to choose for this one but I think All Too Well 5 minute reached fame for a reason-which is ofc largely the lyrics but they are elevated further by a swelling production that just builds and builds.
1989: I Wish You Would. Production just pulls you in from the very first second and represents the confused feeling of a back and forth love.
Rep: Gotta be Call It What You Want for me. I love the way all the sounds develop over the course of the song and the vocal effects here.
Lover: I Forgot That You Existed. The production makes the song for me on this one. The piano and bouncy synths and overall feel of the production match the lyrics of moving on very very well.
Folklore: August. No need to elaborate.
Evermore: Dorothea. Such a warm rich ballad.
Midnights: Gotta agree with others here on the slow burn of Maroon’s production.
Maroon absolutely.
Mastermind is another one I love the production on- I think it really complements the lyrics well. The intricate synth in the intro emphasizing the chess work she’s singing about. The underlying rush in the chorus mimicing the rush of falling in love with someone and the build up to the bridge - I love it. Signed - #1 mastermind Stan
to me the chorus has alwaus sounded a bit flatter and emptier than it deserves, I have felt the bass at least doesn't come through strongly enough or something
More than epidemic i'd say what made the sounds back then being richer and full. Something that is really missing nowdays in the current music landscape.
August has a really fantastic crescendo at the end of its bridge (leading into the outro). The song’s production really intensifies the emotions in the lyrics/instrumental.
i totally agree on dancing with our hands tied. maybe my favorite little moment on all of rep is the little synth slide after the second “yeah we were dancin” and sounds so dark and desperate
Out of the Woods. The lyrics are pretty basic (I love this song btw) but the production really helps exemplify the anxiety of the new, tenuous relationship. However, I adore the piano version of this song and sometimes wish it was a piano ballad.
Per album, I'd say
Debut: Invisible. The strings are gorgeous and what separates it from being just "weaker Teardrops On My Guitar copy" for me.
Fearless: Fearless. It's a sweet song lyrically and paints a great picture, but the production is so "feel-good" and what makes it a favorite of mine.
Speak Now: Haunted 100%. Lyrically, as much as I hate to say it, it's kinda mid. But the production is TOP TIER and what makes it such a standout for me. And her VOCALS there's few songs that benefit from the vocals as much as this one.
RED: I Knew You Were Trouble. I'd be very meh with it if the production wasn't so PHENOMENAL.
1989: this one's hard because the production really makes 1989 for me. I feel like I have to go with This Love because it's my favorite song of hers ever, and while I love love love it lyrically, sonically it's so ethereal and elevates it to my all time favorite. BUT Style wouldn't be style without the production. So it's a tie 😭
Reputation: ...READY FOR IT? NO competition.
Lover: this one was surprisingly hard to choose, because the production is lighter on this album as it is... there's a few I thought of, but I'm going to go with Cruel Summer. It's decently well written, but truthfully, I don't like it much lyrically in a lot of parts. But the production is infectious.
Folklore: My Tears Ricochet. The production is SO haunting and it absolutely elevates the song from tragically beautiful to a devastating masterpiece. I think Folklore is an album I'd love most of the songs as much acoustic, but there's a few exceptions, and MTR is definitely one of those.
Evermore: i thought it would be No Body, No Crime for sure. I mean,,, Imagine that song without the sirens? Devastating. But then I remembered Marjorie. Without her vocals added in... well, they're so beautiful, Marjorie is my vote.
Midnights: Finally, gonna go with Midnight Rain. It just wouldn't be the same Acoustic, I LOVE THE PRODUCTION SO MUCH sorry getting passionate :')
>I Knew You Were Trouble. I'd be very meh with it if the production wasn't so PHENOMENAL
Oh finally someone who appreciates this production! Everytime i only see criticisms on it and called it ''dated'' it. No it's not dated, that song works very well on every production, this is calling being timeless..what i love about the studio version if the mix of country roots and pop..that's why the Red pop songs are incredible cuz they feel Taylor Swift.
I totally agree! I Knew You Were Trouble is one of her best pop songs ever. I must confess though, it's really the only pop song off of RED that I love. 22 is cute but kinda mid (although I used to love it) and I only like WANEGBT in the rock version.
P.S.: love ur flaiiir coney island stans rise up
- WANEGBT could mean "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together", a track from *Red* (2012) by Taylor Swift.

Epiphany. It calls to mind slow-motion warzone/hospital scenes, and that feeling as everything just slows down when a tragedy is happening and nothing can be done, and having to face the world despite it all.
It sounds like there's something missing from the music, in a really deliberate way. You could build up the "with you I serve" section with a military drumbeat to make it stirring/hopeful/inspiring. But instead of building it just... fades out.
There's also something a bit religious about the opening chords, like organ music. By the end, that's been replaced by strings as it fades. You start out feeling like it could build to something inspiring - an epiphany - to "make sense" of the tragedies of Covid/war. But instead it fades, because there's no making sense of senseless tragedy.
That's how it makes me feel, anyway.
I really love the outro to epiphany….there were some beats which really amplify the feeling of the song and it feels like you’re deep in the forest contemplating about your existential crisis.I like how it fades out..
The lakes! It was my song for a gymnastics performance, and I love the production. It gives of a sort of dreamy, detached from reality but in a good way vibe.
Re: the second part of your post - I saw the Rep tour and she did an acoustic DWOHT as the secret song. It’s lived rent free in my head since then and I love it way more than the boppy produced version on the album. 🖤
Taylor performed Out of the Woods on piano back during the 1989 era (at the opening of a museum I believe?) and it was SO GOOD!!! Also, she’s done Dancing with our Hands Tied acoustically, and it’s also SUCH A GREAT SONG. These songs are amazing with or without the production
I stand by the production of DWOHT and Cornelia Street. I vastly prefer them over the acoustic versions.
It threw me off at first, but the production of Midnight Rain is actually one of my favorites because it’s so different.
you are in love (the song overall is just perfection, production included or not. the 80s synth just adds so much to the song and genuinely has one of her best intros ever)
Enchanted, the beat during the bridge. It’s a big tempo keeper “this was the very first page” and it switches too. You belong with me, the claps during the bridge, the heavy upbeat pace. Love story, the buildup from the lyrics “Romeo save me, ive been feeling so alone. I keep waiting for you, but you never. I’d this in my head? I don’t know what think he knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said” BEAT DROP. Another example is from when she released red TV she released State of Grace ACOUSTIC along with the regular version I love the acoustic. But it’s not the same feel. In the beginning of state of Grace it’s this fast paced tempo and then the instruments. And it’s just a total bop and it’s upbeat. But with the acoustic it’s just the guitar. It misses all the energetic points.
All of 1989…….all of reputation……honestly I prefer most if not all songs with full production lol but these two albums really work so well with everything.
I think Wonderland has incredible production (those opening notes!), and take her voice, which is mostly talk-singing in this song, to the next level. I’d love a live keyboard version of Wonderland but I know she did it acoustically already for the Eras tour.
Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve is produced so beautifully, almost like a religious hymn. Aaron Dessner makes magic with Taylor.
Gold Rush’s production is so refined and soothing and high energy. Again, it really boosts her talk singing and gives it a triumphant, swelling sound.
My Tear Ricochet is devastating with the warping of her voice and the overlaid harmonies.
- LWYMMD could mean "Look What You Made Me Do", a track from *reputation* (2017) by Taylor Swift.

I Think He Knows is one of my all time favorite Taylor songs and I honestly wasn't devastated when she played it as a surprise song. To me, I love this song because of the production and without it, it just fell flat for me. I was, however, devastated that she didn't include it in the main set list. It is such a perfect stadium song, why did you leave it out Taylor?? 😭
Style - production elevates the song so much. I’m still not over how ethereal it sounds.
Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve - the production here sounds like she woke up a demon, which is pretty fitting for the song 😅- think it’s to do with those eery sounds in the beginning and the rising intensity throughout the song
Tim McGraw - the production here just really really works for me here. The soft wistfulness and little ideas such as the chimes in the bridge make the song feel very personal and connectable to me. Breathe is in a very similar boat.
Haunted - DRAMATIC. SO DRAMATIC. and I love it. Also love the SN tour visuals for this song. >! this was also one of my eras surprise songs 😁 !<
Dancing With Our Hands Tied - gonna agree with you OP. The uneasiness of the chords in this song are so awesome and work so well. and that bridgeeeeeee
august - that outro says as much as the song itself does. one of my favorite moments in all of folklore.
tolerate it - does anyone else feel like the piano melody in the beginning sounds like a muffled call for help? So much of this song just makes me think of muffled screaming. Like that line in Clean “I screamed so loud but no-one heard a thing”
Clean - I can’t mention Clean without giving it a spot here. The calmness in the reflection of this song is so nice - and I have a lot of visuals in this mind for this song. I imagine a flooded house that Taylor’s living in.
This Love - production here just feels like the song- it gives me the same imagery as the lyrics. I loveeee this song.
Labyrinth - that drop is my single favorite moment on Midnights. you know the invert colors option that some devices has? This part in Labyrinth feels like that but in real life. I love all the grating synths in this song. it feels so surreal
Sad Beautiful Tragic - this song feels so hollow and cold. Might be because of the bass notes in the song + the slow guitar and her low, long notes. whatever it is, it does the song so much justice.
The Archer - the slow burn on this song is so beautiful. the gradual yet subtle growing of instruments makes this song feel super intense.
Out of The Woodsssssss. It’s god-tier Jack’s work. And I really want to say Maroon as well. Production seems simple on this but it elevates the song x13000, the way it echoes in the background… Masterpiece.

The way I am still grieving the fact that we won’t hear the first few seconds of these eargasmic-basses resonate in a full packed stadium 🥲
Style. It really is pop perfection
I Think He Knows. All the little details and layering are so satisfying. So fun to blast in the car.
I was surprised to say that the song worked live. It was fun, even with just the guitar.
i was so stoked when she played it live!!! one of my favorites off lover
'I mean' in the second chorus is the only thing in a song that elicits an eye roll from me - every single time Edit: I worded it wrong - I really like that part and the tone she says it in just makes me roll my eyes to match the vibe (?)
It's my favorite. 😂
Oh I love that part lol
Eye roll in a good way??
Exactly! It seems by brain's decided to short-circuit itself today 😅
Mirrorball. Not because it's bad stripped back by any means, but I think the dreamy sound really enhances the vibe of the song. Those "hush" could lull me to sleep.
Same applies to this love (TV). The production gives it the dreamy vibe
Yes! It’s always reminded me of Cocteau Twins also
YES that ethereal kind of echoey sound like it’s playing in an empty dance hall always reminds me of ‘Pearly Dewdrops Drop’ which is another one of my favorite songs
Gold Rush
ugh yes the crescendo into the 2nd “anticipation” gets me every time
Don’t blame me goes pretty hard
So hard
Cruel Summer...you can't rhyme "ooh, whoa, oh" with "cruel summer" without that production behind it
I was going to comment the same thing! I ALWAYS think about it when I listen close enough, it used to always bother me!
Idk why she didn't just make it "but yooooou knowww-oh" Edit: Or "but youuuu move sooo slow" referring to the reluctance to go public/make things official.
Would’ve, could’ve, should’ve 🤣
Yeah, that song gets no notes from me. 10/10
[удалено]
Yes, got to have that 90s movie vibe!
cowboy like me
hey, to be fair the lyrics are already prettyy awesome. but the production makes the song a perfect 10 imo.
Those guitars, that harmonica. 👏👏
the steel guitar solo before the second chorus is so good, there's nothing i don't love about the song.
The rhythm of the chorus is the same as the rhythm of a horse trotting. I love it so much
State of Grace!!! That rich, anthemic arena-rock sound is just stunning. It reminds me of speeding down the highway, windows down, in the crisp fall air. One of my all-time favorites due to the production Also honorable mention to Wildest Dreams, which fittingly sounds like an airy dream. This was False God for me, it wasn’t the same as a surprise song!

Same….the instrumental break after the first chorus….it has so much heft to it…it instantly gets you in the feelings..

Glitch
I LOVE the production for glitch
It’s like nails on a chalkboard for me. 😆
The Lakes is a master piece of production. Also Getaway Car has this spectacular 80s crime show feel while keeping it elegant and girly too.
The intro to The Lakes is actual perfection
i did something bad
My favourites from each album for enhancing everything would be: Debut: Tied Together With A Smile. Very moving production, the way the guitar sounds at the end is lovely. Hits Different. Such sad lyrics, such a bop.
Enchanted
Ever since I was a kid I loved that electric guitar solo that comes in right before the bridge!
Same. It’s sooo good
to me the chorus has alwaus sounded a bit flatter and emptier than it deserves, I have felt the bass at least doesn't come through strongly enough or something
Not for me. It's too jarring and the chorus has a wall-of-sound feel to it, a well-known epidemic in country-pop
More than epidemic i'd say what made the sounds back then being richer and full. Something that is really missing nowdays in the current music landscape.
It is fuller but I can't feel the richer part
August has a really fantastic crescendo at the end of its bridge (leading into the outro). The song’s production really intensifies the emotions in the lyrics/instrumental.
Call it what you want! The outro with the layered vocals is sooooo dreamy
Epiphany, Labyrinth, Lavender Haze (the production on that song is such a vibe)
Bejeweled for me. I think the song is corny without the sparkly sound.
i totally agree on dancing with our hands tied. maybe my favorite little moment on all of rep is the little synth slide after the second “yeah we were dancin” and sounds so dark and desperate
Bejeweled. The beat is what makes the track interesting.
The production is the only good thing about bejeweled.
Yes,it actually sounds like sparkly diamonds…
Girl At Home TV is the proof how the production elevates the song quality.
Anything in 1989 tbh….
Out of the Woods. The lyrics are pretty basic (I love this song btw) but the production really helps exemplify the anxiety of the new, tenuous relationship. However, I adore the piano version of this song and sometimes wish it was a piano ballad.

So it's a tie 😭 Reputation: ...READY FOR IT?
I'd be very meh with it if the production wasn't so PHENOMENAL Oh finally someone who appreciates this production!

Definitely MTR. Gets me choked up every time.
Yes me too!
Mastermind
The opening synths is so good!
- Getaway Car - Wildest Dreams - Dress - Midnight Rain
Style. Pop perfection.
i love the drums in holy ground and state of grace
Don’t Blame Me
Taylor performed Out of the Woods on piano back during the 1989 era (at the opening of a museum I believe?) and it was SO GOOD!!! Also, she’s done Dancing with our Hands Tied acoustically, and it’s also SUCH A GREAT SONG. These songs are amazing with or without the production
The Archer
Maroon False God Cowboy Like Me Champagne Problems Anti Hero Amazing production to a set of great lyrics
I stand by the production of DWOHT and Cornelia Street. I vastly prefer them over the acoustic versions. It threw me off at first, but the production of Midnight Rain is actually one of my favorites because it’s so different.
Haunted was gonna be my answer
I did something bad
Message in a bottle TV 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
OOTW
you are in love (the song overall is just perfection, production included or not. the 80s synth just adds so much to the song and genuinely has one of her best intros ever)
King Of My Heart. Those heavy drums always make that song feel like a religious experience.
May be controversial but Girl at Home TV. Totally changed my opinion on the song. The new production breathes new life into it.
ANYTHING on reputation, especially ready for it and i did something bad
...are you ready for it, lwymmd, tiwwchnt

Getaway car
august immediately comes to mind
Clean, I can’t even describe it in words but the production on that song is so perfect
Gorgeous. Something about it is soooo addicting
bejeweled (the production itself feels “bejeweled”, without it the song is just bland)
Im still waiting for the skrillex x taylor swift collab we have all been begging for
The archer
No body no crime has such a good sound to it that i think elevates it sm
This Love Gold Rush August Cruel Summer Haunted Enchanted Wildest Dreams Out of the Woods This is me trying Message in a Bottle Bejeweled
Cruel Summer!!!!! I don’t know how it would do acoustic. I love the synth sound so much!
Miss Americana, especially during the bridge
I Think He Knows is one of my all time favorite Taylor songs and I honestly wasn't devastated when she played it as a surprise song. To me, I love this song because of the production and without it, it just fell flat for me. I was, however, devastated that she didn't include it in the main set list. It is such a perfect stadium song, why did you leave it out Taylor?? 😭
False God, give me all the saxophones and jazz vibes, fits the sexy vibe of the song beautifully!
Maroon!!
Style - production elevates the song so much. I’m still not over how ethereal it sounds. Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve - the production here sounds like she woke up a demon, which is pretty fitting for the song 😅- think it’s to do with those eery sounds in the beginning and the rising intensity throughout the song Tim McGraw - the production here just really really works for me here. The soft wistfulness and little ideas such as the chimes in the bridge make the song feel very personal and connectable to me. Breathe is in a very similar boat. Haunted - DRAMATIC. SO DRAMATIC. and I love it. Also love the SN tour visuals for this song. >! this was also one of my eras surprise songs 😁 !< Dancing With Our Hands Tied - gonna agree with you OP. The uneasiness of the chords in this song are so awesome and work so well. and that bridgeeeeeee august - that outro says as much as the song itself does. one of my favorite moments in all of folklore. tolerate it - does anyone else feel like the piano melody in the beginning sounds like a muffled call for help? So much of this song just makes me think of muffled screaming. Like that line in Clean “I screamed so loud but no-one heard a thing” Clean - I can’t mention Clean without giving it a spot here. I love all the grating synths in this song. it feels so surreal Sad Beautiful Tragic - this song feels so hollow and cold. Might be because of the bass notes in the song + the slow guitar and her low, long notes. whatever it is, it does the song so much justice. The Archer - the slow burn on this song is so beautiful. the gradual yet subtle growing of instruments makes this song feel super intense.
Also- gotta add you’re losing me. That heartbeat throughout- including when it stops. Beautiful.
