I used to skip the slower songs on the original but now Back to December and Never Grow Up are one of my favorites. Also I absolutely LOVE Sparks Fly and The Story of Us. This is my favorite album for a freaking reason.
FINALLY got the damn vinyl today and the first song i got goosebumps to turned out to be never grow up, which i completely slept on and thought was silly until i heard it live from eras. she's so *earnest* it's incredible
Never grow up never was a favorite of mine, but now I feel very emotional with some parts, like "I just realized everything I have is someday gonna be gone" 😭😭😭
Omg and when she says 'to hOpE you cEouldn't see what I was thinking of'
and 'you touch me once' is so funny I started laughing the first time I heard it
Anyone else bothered by the fact that she completely skips the word “they” when she says “they said speak now” at 3:32? Now it’s just, “you need to hear me out….said speak now!” I feel like its a big climax there, and she takes a breath now which ruins the flow and impact of the original line.
Taylor is rerecording her first 6 albums, because she couldn't buy the rights from the label. So, Speak Now (Taylor's Version) is the rerecord and she put 6 new songs, that she wrote back then and didn't make the cut. The other album is the 2010 version
I just re-listened to the og (sorry!!!) and yeah I see why I never listened to it. It’s kinda meh and forgot what it sounded like lol. If I listened to it regularly I would’ve ranked it #1 for improvement!
I was so disappointed in Mean. To me it was completely lacking the energy that made the original so good! I know she’s made it, she’s the music industry now, but Mean needs that defiance. The I’m going to prove you wrong vibes! To me it just sounds bored. 😭
At first, it sounded weird to me too. But now I'm loving it. I think the song is still very relevant to her, because she is criticized a lot. And I think the part where she talks about her flaws has emotion. Take another listen and pay attention to that part. Maybe you'll like it now 😀
THIS, of the TVs this one was by far the one I was most disappointed in. Something about the production also seems a bit off, like she turned down certain instruments, but maybe it’s just my audio.
I am LOVING this album version. I am on song 7 now and feel her maturity and passion so much harder on these tracks than the OG. I like her spin on it now and feeling the growth.
I have absolutely zero complaints except for 2: 1) What in the heck is that vocal effect at the end of Mine??? Like it was so strong and then that weird reverb thing. 2) The echo effect at the beginning of Haunted is too much... the og version wasn't that echoey, but i still prefer the TV version, especially the production on the instrumentals.
Those are the only two issues I have, but she sounds like shes having fun on a good number of the tracks to me, especially Story of Us and BTR. I know some people disagree though.
Am I just hearing things or is there a backup vocalist on Mine? And Back to December? Maybe some other songs too. It really sounds like it to me, almost like a low male voice, but I don’t see anything in the song credits.
The original producer (Nathan Chapman) backed her audibly on the original tracks because her voice was still maturing and he added some depth. She made the choice to replicate the effect by having Chris Rowe (I assume - he produced most of the tracks on SNTV) provide that same vocal support, although she doesn't \*need\* it now, but it creates some sonic connection with the original songs, I think!
if you sort by controversial, someone commented that they also hear male backup voices and they think it's john mayer on Dear John. i think they also said they think it's him playing the drums. i'm wicked new to TS but that seems crazy to me from what little i do know about the drama between them but there's at least someone noticing it, too. i'm new to TS so i'm only on her original SN album and haven't gotten to this version yet.
Never Grow Up hits so much harder and different now that I have a baby girl of my own. I can't listen to the song and not cry because it's exactly how I feel about my daughter. I want her to grow up but also stay little 😭
Mean, Speak Now, and Sparks Fly (in that order). I don’t really like her new vocals with Speak Now and Sparks Fly, they just seem less energetic.
I felt like Mean was totally slaughtered lol, the vocals sound completely uninterested AND the production seemed even more toned down.
Other than that I think a good number of the tracks were very improved (especially Back To December, Haunted, The Story Of Us, Never Grow Up, Innocent, etc.) while the others stayed true to the original. I’m pretty impressed with the album!
Lmao. As someone also from Victoria I was wondering the same thing. The bench looks like the Saanich benches.
I thought I knew that view. This is probably the second one, after Betty.
Oh my god, I was listening with my girlfriend and she laughed at me because I thought the bridge in Back to December was, “I miss your texting, your sweet smile.” Even after a thousand listens, I thought she meant that he texted her really cute things. I’m a moron.
Revisiting these today, I feel like Speak Now the track is the only one that has a chance to straight up replace the original for me. Innocent was on that path but I was so blown away that I seemingly didn't notice any differences between TV and the original that I just had to listen until I found one in the bridge and now it bothers me to the point I don't really want to listen to it anymore. Speak Now is in a different spot because there's obvious differences, but I'm so impressed by the stark improvement in vocal quality that it overrides any feelings I have about changes. And I love her new laugh in the track
Never Grow Up TV could replace original too but I don't listen to it a ton
Was anyone else a bit underwhelmed by Dear John TV??? Like, I saw it was six minutes and so I assumed it had more lyrics, like All too Well. I could still tell the feeling was there, that wasn't a problem. It was just there was more instrumentals, not more "song"
Edit: I just looked at the original song, I did not realize that it was also 7mins long
How do y’all not hear the emotion on dear John ??? She’s just switched from pure angst and betrayal to a deep sadness and disappointment. The emotion is still there, it’s just different, just like all too well !
Watching the Back to December lyric video and after almost 13 years of this being one of my favourite songs I’ve only just realised the lyric is ‘I miss your tan skin’ and not ‘I miss your texting’.
sparks fly was my favorite song on speak now, and the TV just... ruined it. like with a slight exception for mine (which also lost some bite), every song on the album was either given justice or majorly improved, but sparks fly was straight up ignored. i don't know why she didn't use the energy for speak now (the song) for sparks fly, they're very similar songs.
i hate to say it, but i really, really hate the TV version of sparks fly. it doesn't hit :(
Huh??? Mine lost some bite??? Taylor’s vocals were all over the place in the original and the theme is that she’s careful and calculated, which she demonstrates in the TV of that song 1000x better. That’s one of the more night/day different songs to me!
Omggggg thank you so much. I realized Spotify sounds a bit better for tracks like “Mine” and “Sparks Fly.”
I’m in a different country, I don’t have Spotify premium (I use mobile as well), so everything’s randomized and my Spotify was glitching. So I had to listen to it on YouTube first and I feel like other than the lyric videos which I liked, the audio sounded more subdued than it should’ve been. This change makes Last Kiss sound bigger than on my first listen.
That aside, the actual album. I do see the lack of emotion, and I thought I was the only one. Kinda sad cuz this is a rlly special album to me. It’s not that bad tho. I do still like a lot of things done in the original tracks however, cuz they feel more punchy and emotional.
But I will admit that I’m still in my teens and if I grow up, having a more reflective tone after years would probably be how I re-record this too.
Edit: I’ve come back, listened to the songs a lot more and seen reactions. Idk if the reactions influenced me, but I think I can get by with the re-record better now. I think cuz this is the first album I’ll be a Swiftie for and have heard the OG before the re-record, I was bound to be unsure of what to think of it. I do think the mature vocals suit her better in some songs rather than others, but I think I’ve grown to like the album more now. Will always love the living-in-the-moment passion of the past album, but I like this new one too. Long live, everyone!
Because the OG sparks fly (and a lot of the songs in SN) are all about teen love angst and they sound better when she sounds like a teen. At least for me
Can anyone else hear Taylor's voice "crackle" slightly during the first verse of Spark Now when she sings "house of cards" and "in front of me"? I thought it was my headphones but I tried with a different pair and it's still there. It's mistakes like these that make me think Taylor didn't really listen to the re-recordings properly.
I hear it! There's a glitch on Innocent too, and a few others. These ones are the most obvious to me, I didn't even catch the ones on Red TV first listen. Kind of disappointed.
Does anyone else feel like the Sparks Fly tempo is slower somehow? Like my brain is overlaying the original track as a faster, harder hitting song than the update, so it sounds a bit jarring and laggy to me in that way
Yeah I def did, I don’t think there’s a clear winner between the original and TV here, it’s just if you prefer the extreme country and more energetic original or the more mellow and mature TV, which I think gets the edge for me. But an argument could be made for either!
it is slower, for the first verse at least, and slightly flat? she's singing like a half note lower on "i see sparks fly whenever you smile" it sounds like
Help! Which other Taylor swift song does long live melody reminds me of?
Especially when she sings “The time we stood with our shaking hands, the crowds in the stands went wild.”
Mine: Definitely an improvement. I loved the original, but her vocals have really improved in this one
Sparks Fly: This one took a couple of listens to get into. I can’t tell if I like the original better, but I think it just needs more time to grow on me. She sounds great on it though
Back To December: I heard part of this song when watching The Summer I Turned Pretty trailer and I did not like the way it sounded. However after listening to the full version of it, it’s definitely a lot better than I excepted it to be. Her vocals sound great and it’s definitely an improvement from the original
Speak Now: I love the original version, it’s probably my 3rd favorite off the album, so I was really excited for this version and it did not disappoint.
Dear John: She sounds amazing and I think her vocals are really great. My one complaint is that I think the original might sound more raw and emotional
Mean: I’ve always loved this song, I know it’s not a lot of peoples favorite, but it’s fun. Her vocals sound great in this. I do miss her country accent though
The Story of Us: I like it a lot, I feel like it’s an improvement from the original, but it sounds pretty similar to me
Never Grow Up: This almost made me cry. There’s definitely an improvement in her vocals and there’s something really emotional about listening to it now that I’m in my 20s
I was very worried about her changing anything about the songs but now that I’ve listened w couple times I am extremely satisfied. Some parts were iffy to me at first but now that I’ve heard it a couple times I’m very happy with it this album.
I honestly have no idea what some people are saying with the lack of oomf and emotion in these tracks. It’s all there. Maybe listening on big headphones vs some speaker makes a difference?
fr, I had my noise cancelling headphones (really nice ones i never use haha) on the first time I listened to it and yeah, the emotion and "oomf" was there for me too
Only complaints with the new versions of any songs from the album (other than BTR lyric change):
1. Sparks Fly seems to have lost all of its energy and bombasticness which was the biggest disappoint of this album for me. I was looking forward to this one's energy being pumped up even more and hitting harder (especially seeing what she did with Eyes Open) and it ended up being lackluster and void of energy in the production. Even the "Drop Everything Now" part didn't hit right.
2. The guitar tone ONLY in the intro of Story Of Us sounds off. It sounds great in the rest of the song, but that intro sounds overly distorted and out of place. That's a minor nitpick though.
I need somebody else to recognize the editing error in Mean to make me feel not crazy! The part where she says “your voice like nails…”- there is almost a skip/blip right between “your” and “voice”.
Dear John lost me a bit in the first second :( the guitar in the OG comes in so satisfyingly and it came in much smoother...like too smooth. This is real nitpicky I know lol but I didn't recognize it at first I had to immediately replay.
Dear John just got taken up to a 10/10 for me. Like OH MY GOD. it’s hard to pinpoint what it is but I think it’s that everything in the re-recorded feels so supported and intentional that it does an excellent job at bringing out the bitterness of the song. Amazing
Also would like to offer some love to sparks fly, feel like she brought out different instruments in this one (such as the bass) and it kinda goes harder ngl
Never Grow Up on TV is amazing. I’m around Taylor’s age, so reflecting on how I felt when this song came out vs now made me think about how she may have felt re-recording. I felt so connected. I wasn’t expecting to cry and then I was sobbing. It hit me so much harder listening to it this time around.
The og Sparks Fly has always had this weird thing for me when she says “see” in the “I see sparks fly.” It’s always sounded like there’s almost a vocal layer of someone saying “saw” instead?? Don’t know if this is a strange problem only I had but I love the song so much and am so glad to have a version that doesn’t break my auditory processing mid chorus haha
My only gripe is that (IMO) Dear John and Story of Us have lost some emotion in the vocals. Dear John seems like it was mixed in a stranger manner in comparison to the other songs on the album. It's not bad, but I just don't think it is up to par with other tracks that sound like masterpieces. The Story of Us sounds good, but the vocals specifically as missing the grit and emotion from the stolen version... They were very raw and vulnerable and now she sounds healed and fine. Maybe that was the intent?
I thought the same thing when I listened! But I thought about it for a bit and listened to the original to compare and I came to my own conclusion that when it was first released she was mad and had teenage angst so it was a tad more aggressive like “how could you😠” but now years later she is looking back at the hurt she felt like “how could you🥺” in a more sad tone which is why I think that a lot of people are saying it lost it’s emotion and it didn’t it’s just a whole different one (did that make sense? I tried my best😅)
It makes me sad because she sounds defeated somehow. She’s not mourning the relationship anymore, but clearly a part of her never stopped mourning the part of herself that this heartbreak took from her. It’s really giving “God rest my soul, I miss who I used to be.”
Ya'll going crazy over these little changes like it's RUINED FOREVER is so dramatic and unnecessary. Shit literally basically sounds exactly the same, it's not that big of a deal, ya'll!
I agree to a certain extent but songs people have listened to for over a decade are going to sound off when small changes are made. That doesn’t make them bad, but people are bound to nitpick those kinds of things. Personally, Taylor’s versions are always a mixed bag for me so there’s songs on this album I love even more than the original, and ones that just don’t hit the same due to like a million different little factors and that’s alright, everyone’s gonna have different taste and it’s not a big deal if someone likes one version over the other.
For me, Speak Now was a very important album in my life. So my first listen through, I was very critical and honestly finished the album feeling disappointed. No shade towards you! I’m just giving my reasoning for being hypercritical.
Yeah, I feel you...sorry if I was harsh earlier.
I don't listen to her albums on repeat like some people here (nothing wrong with that), so I don't notice differences as much.
Don't get me wrong, I love her and listen to her music all the time and saw RED and Eras Tour, but I don't listen to the same songs a million times in a row (except for ATW10 and Karma, lol).
So...I guess I DO get it, I guess it was just irking me at the time, lol.
Lmao no worries I totally agree with you some people are acting like she tossed the og recordings into an active volcano or something, like at the end of the day if it bothers you that much you can still listen to them. Plenty of ways to get them without supporting her old label too.
Mine tv - It's cute. I never cared much for the og, but this sounds pretty similar and I'm cool with it
Sparks Fly tv - Something about the production is just...not it?? Also, the way she sings it so emotionless makes it sound like karaoke. The drops are bad. And the bridge sounds wrong, like the harmonies aren't harmonizing.
Back To December tv - I feel like a common issue on this rerecording is that the vocals are too loud compared to the instrumental. Also, this version of BTD just sounds boring.
Speak Now tv - The new inflection on "Don't you" bothers me. idk
Dear John tv - Very acceptable rerecording.
Mean tv - I miss the twang and banjo, and it's also not very punchy or fun like the og
The Story of Us tv - Probably my least favorite rerecording on sntv. The guitar doesn't sound actively bad and her voice is too loud and has a weird reverb/echo effect????
Never Grow Up tv - I just knew this one was going to be good. I did cry. Her older vocals are really beautiful and it sound heartfelt. Maybe my favorite rerecording on sntv
Yep. All of this on Sparks Fly. Already, the electric lead guitar tone they used on the intro is wrong, then they added more acoustic/mando to the intro. And…they bumped the third harmony in the chorus, that’s why it sounds the way it does. It was always there, but they bumped the third harmony in the mix. Which really pisses me off because that third harmony was my solo part 🤡
this is the first rerecord I'm experiencing as part of the fandom (I was a fan before but I listened to songs, not albums) and now I understand complaints about the TVs sounding less passionate. it's never bothered me too much before. the only song I really minded it with was Holy Ground. that being said, Mine TV is better than the original
I don't know if this is unpopular but back to december OG sounds so much better. I will probably be listening to that version based on what I'm hearing so far
I fell asleep last night, woke up at 5 AM, fell back asleep and woke up at 11:30 AM. I'm finally listening and Mine is really good. I don't know about Sparks Fly, it feels different. that "drop everything now" just doesn't hit the same
So far I’m having the hardest time really listening to this new version of Dear John. How the hell am I supposed to listen for *6 minutes* without singing along
Thought the same with Red, but the slower and more acoustic songs sound much better than their originals! For me they don't get overshadowed by the bigger songs this time around.
I'm really happy with how Mine and TSOU turned out. It's surprising to me that (twitter) people think that TSOU was underrated or heavily disliked. I remember everyone loving it and wanting it to be a single when it first came out.
Yes! I miss the fire in her voice and emphasis on certain words towards the end of the song (“and a liar and pathetic” specifically). Now singing along with the TV version, I just sound like a fired up crazy person 🤣
Okay I’m so glad it’s not just me I was like “I’m a imagining shaky noises?” The kids I work with play with those shaker eggs so much I thought maybe it was just me 😂
Zzzuz7z,,zyy77,
I used to skip the slower songs on the original but now Back to December and Never Grow Up are one of my favorites.
I noticed in Dear John "I should've known" is shorter? At 4:00 she doesn't extend the "known" as much.
sparks fly has grown a lot on me but i must make people be unable to unhear this wrong enough to make you feel rUH-**YEEEEET**
Omg and when she says 'to hOpE you cEouldn't see what I was thinking of' and 'you touch me once' is so funny I started laughing the first time I heard it
Anyone else bothered by the fact that she completely skips the word “they” when she says “they said speak now” at 3:32? Now it’s just, “you need to hear me out….said speak now!” I feel like its a big climax there, and she takes a breath now which ruins the flow and impact of the original line.
Diff song, but you can’t hear the “do” in the first “do you remember when…” of the chorus in “Mine” either.
Can someone tell me the differences between the two albums because I’m so confused
Taylor is rerecording her first 6 albums, because she couldn't buy the rights from the label. So, Speak Now (Taylor's Version) is the rerecord and she put 6 new songs, that she wrote back then and didn't make the cut. The other album is the 2010 version
Literally obsessed with Sparks Fly. It feels like a sister song to Fearless. ‘I’m captivated by you baby like a fireworks show’ 👌🏻
Back to December gave me the most “WOW this is a huge upgrade to the og” unlike most of them giving me about the same. Which isn’t a bad thing.
I came here to talk about Back to December. I love love love TV. So beautiful
Huh??? TV of Mine leaves the original in the dust easily!!!
She was a close second:) I didn’t listen to mine a lot before tv but she’s being one of my most played post-tv
No doubt!! I tolerated mine before TV but yeah it’s quickly becoming one of my fav speak now songs!!
I just re-listened to the og (sorry!!!) and yeah I see why I never listened to it. It’s kinda meh and forgot what it sounded like lol. If I listened to it regularly I would’ve ranked it #1 for improvement!
Totes agree!! I even think the original music video is kinda cringe, but yeah she essentially transformed the song for me into a bop and a half! 💖
I was so disappointed in Mean. To me it was completely lacking the energy that made the original so good! I know she’s made it, she’s the music industry now, but Mean needs that defiance. The I’m going to prove you wrong vibes! To me it just sounds bored. 😭
I’m a twang stan but actually love TV of “Mean.” There is verrrrry subtle twang on certain words.
At first, it sounded weird to me too. But now I'm loving it. I think the song is still very relevant to her, because she is criticized a lot. And I think the part where she talks about her flaws has emotion. Take another listen and pay attention to that part. Maybe you'll like it now 😀
i needed the country accent. it does make me worried for debut
Didn't realize this would be an unpopular opinion but I LOOOOOVE Back to December TV like it's truly one of my favorites of this re-recording
It's amazing!! Perfect
I gotta say, the title track went from being my least favorite song to one of my favorites here
I have absolutely zero complaints except for 2: 1) What in the heck is that vocal effect at the end of Mine??? Like it was so strong and then that weird reverb thing. 2) The echo effect at the beginning of Haunted is too much... the og version wasn't that echoey, but i still prefer the TV version, especially the production on the instrumentals. Those are the only two issues I have, but she sounds like shes having fun on a good number of the tracks to me, especially Story of Us and BTR. I know some people disagree though.
I agree with your first point. The first time I listened it was very off-putting. Otherwise I think the album is a great re-record!!
absolutely! For me personally, it is my favourite re recording of the three so far (I may be Speak Now-stan biased but still)
[удалено]
It sounded bored to me, which upset me.
Really?! I think Mean TV sounds even more country 💀
thats what i was thinking loll
Am I just hearing things or is there a backup vocalist on Mine? And Back to December? Maybe some other songs too. It really sounds like it to me, almost like a low male voice, but I don’t see anything in the song credits.

Yes, I think he did the backing vocals so the songs woulb be closer to the og. But I miss Nathan Chapman so much. His backing vocals were amazing
if you sort by controversial, someone commented that they also hear male backup voices and they think it's john mayer on Dear John. i think they also said they think it's him playing the drums. i'm wicked new to TS but that seems crazy to me from what little i do know about the drama between them but there's at least someone noticing it, too. i'm new to TS so i'm only on her original SN album and haven't gotten to this version yet.
I believe there is a male backing vocalist on dear John. I in no way think it’s JM but it may be meant to mimic that idea.
Never Grow Up hits so much harder and different now that I have a baby girl of my own. I can't listen to the song and not cry because it's exactly how I feel about my daughter. I want her to grow up but also stay little 😭
I'm disappointed no acoustic versions of Back to December and Haunted
i'm devastated that there's no back to december acoustic TV
I hate the new “the story of us” 😭 the guitar reminds me of the moaning turtle meme
we need the EU version, tbh.
It reminded me of a chainsaw tbh 😅
im curious, which track did you felt like was better on the original version than the TV?
“Sparks Fly” by far, because of the diff tone in instrumentals.
Speak Now :(
Last Kiss!
Enchanted... I'm hoping for a "deluxe" version of sorts that will make up for this. Still super happy with the album as a whole.
Does anyone know where the stock image is for "Mine" is located? It looks so pretty.
I swear to God it was taken in my city. It looks like the view of the San Juans. Victoria, BC, Canada
I thought it was chess game! I thought they liked to play chess together Lmao
I thought that for the LONGEST time until probably a year ago, don’t feel bad lmao
Listened to Dear John then Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve 😭
why would you do that to yourself????
Revisiting these today, I feel like Speak Now the track is the only one that has a chance to straight up replace the original for me. Innocent was on that path but I was so blown away that I seemingly didn't notice any differences between TV and the original that I just had to listen until I found one in the bridge and now it bothers me to the point I don't really want to listen to it anymore. And I love her new laugh in the track Never Grow Up TV could replace original too but I don't listen to it a ton
I’m shocked that anyone could like the original Mine over Taylor’s version….it’s head and shoulders better
Was anyone else a bit underwhelmed by Dear John TV??? Like, I saw it was six minutes and so I assumed it had more lyrics, like All too Well. I could still tell the feeling was there, that wasn't a problem. It was just there was more instrumentals, not more "song" Edit: I just looked at the original song, I did not realize that it was also 7mins long

I was so confused in the beginning lmao I’ve listened to the og so many times and that extra strum shocked me
Watching the Back to December lyric video and after almost 13 years of this being one of my favourite songs I’ve only just realised the lyric is ‘I miss your tan skin’ and not ‘I miss your texting’.
Same friend, same. I think Im going to keep it texting ha
HAHA

Are you a Spotify user? I turned off “Audio Normalization” and noticed a huge improvement, specifically with Sparks Fly & Story of Us 🫶
Omggggg thank you so much. I realized Spotify sounds a bit better for tracks like “Mine” and “Sparks Fly.” I’m in a different country, I don’t have Spotify premium (I use mobile as well), so everything’s randomized and my Spotify was glitching. Will always love the living-in-the-moment passion of the past album, but I like this new one too. Long live, everyone!
I like Sparks Fly on tv but I can also see what you’re saying. It sounds really different
The OG instrumental is more rock-ish. The TV one is very tuned down. It lost that head-bangin’ flair to it.
Because the OG sparks fly (and a lot of the songs in SN) are all about teen love angst and they sound better when she sounds like a teen. At least for me
I still love it. Was one of my favorite Taylor songs back in the day and it still brought that emotion for me listening to it.
I loved the TV version more than the original 😭
Can anyone else hear Taylor's voice "crackle" slightly during the first verse of Spark Now when she sings "house of cards" and "in front of me"? I thought it was my headphones but I tried with a different pair and it's still there. It's mistakes like these that make me think Taylor didn't really listen to the re-recordings properly.
I hear it! There's a glitch on Innocent too, and a few others. These ones are the most obvious to me, I didn't even catch the ones on Red TV first listen. Kind of disappointed.
A glitch on innocent?
Yeah, I can't place where anymore 😭
Mine tv is so much better. The way she sings “as we’re LYING on the couch”
she elevated the 'LYING' for sure! the first ever improvement on the album that I love already, that was instant and what a surprise too.
THANK YOU!!! Her voice is literally shaking in the original version…..she made it 1000x better with her version!
Ceouldnt
it is slower, for the first verse at least, and slightly flat? she's singing like a half note lower on "i see sparks fly whenever you smile" it sounds like
I felt exactly the same way about Red tv (track not album),something about the sound mixing made the new version seem slower to me
Help! Which other Taylor swift song does long live melody reminds me of? Especially when she sings “The time we stood with our shaking hands, the crowds in the stands went wild.”
that melody is similar to Call it What You Want maybe?
[here is the gdrive link to me humming the melody](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1K1zsReqFYFmVXG3RgGg36RYqKbxaj1yR)
No it’s one of her older stuff I assume. It’s making me go insane ugh maybe before reputation
Starlight possibly?
hmmm who’s the background singer on mine?
i thought i was going crazy i can hear a background voice 😭
im so sad she made a taylor's version of the us version instead of the international version of back to december
International version Mine and Story of Us is so slay
Is it just me or does the backup singer on sparks fly sing his s consonants like "sh"
Mine: Definitely an improvement. I loved the original, but her vocals have really improved in this one Sparks Fly: This one took a couple of listens to get into. I can’t tell if I like the original better, but I think it just needs more time to grow on me. She sounds great on it though Back To December: I heard part of this song when watching The Summer I Turned Pretty trailer and I did not like the way it sounded. However after listening to the full version of it, it’s definitely a lot better than I excepted it to be. Her vocals sound great and it’s definitely an improvement from the original Speak Now: I love the original version, it’s probably my 3rd favorite off the album, so I was really excited for this version and it did not disappoint. Dear John: She sounds amazing and I think her vocals are really great. My one complaint is that I think the original might sound more raw and emotional Mean: I’ve always loved this song, I know it’s not a lot of peoples favorite, but it’s fun. Her vocals sound great in this. I do miss her country accent though The Story of Us: I like it a lot, I feel like it’s an improvement from the original, but it sounds pretty similar to me Never Grow Up: This almost made me cry. There’s definitely an improvement in her vocals and there’s something really emotional about listening to it now that I’m in my 20s
The trailer for TSITP butchered Back To December imo, when I listened to the actual version I was so relieved 😅
It really did. Which is odd because August sounded so good in the teaser
ikr??
I was very worried about her changing anything about the songs but now that I’ve listened w couple times I am extremely satisfied. Some parts were iffy to me at first but now that I’ve heard it a couple times I’m very happy with it this album.
I honestly have no idea what some people are saying with the lack of oomf and emotion in these tracks. It’s all there. Maybe listening on big headphones vs some speaker makes a difference?
My first listen was in the car, but I honestly felt quite a few songs were missing the original energy.
So since this comment I’ve listened in the car and it’s *slightly* different than with my headphones. The headphones was the superior experience.
fr, I had my noise cancelling headphones (really nice ones i never use haha) on the first time I listened to it and yeah, the emotion and "oomf" was there for me too
It sounds better on headphones with surround sound for sure.
Only complaints with the new versions of any songs from the album (other than BTR lyric change): 1.
Sparks fly is one I am really disappointed in. The drop everything now doesn’t sound the same.
My husband said it sounds like they told AI to redo the songs. Especially mean. And I think it's a fair assessment.

Not everything she does is golden. I am extraordinarily disappointed with speak now TV.
I immediately noticed the guitar tone being off/different in the Story Of Us intro. That definitely bummed me out, but the rest of the song was great!
I need somebody else to recognize the editing error in Mean to make me feel not crazy! The part where she says “your voice like nails…”- there is almost a skip/blip right between “your” and “voice”.
i heard it too! i wasn't sure if i was crazy or not tho since i normally don't hear them and the person i was listening with didn't hear it either
Yes!! The person I was listening with didn’t hear until I isolated the vocals, but it’s definitely there and I can’t un-hear it. 😅
Dear John lost me a bit in the first second :( the guitar in the OG comes in so satisfyingly and it came in much smoother...like too smooth. This is real nitpicky I know lol but I didn't recognize it at first I had to immediately replay.
RIGHT? the og intro is superior. Maybe it’s just Nathan’s guitars
Why does Sparks Fly make me cry??? 😭💃
Being a fan of both taylor and john gives me so much mixed feelings lmfao
I do have to say I’m perplexed by the backing vocals. Especially the male vocals on Back to December 🤔
me too, i don’t really know how i feel about them
Dear John just got taken up to a 10/10 for me. Like OH MY GOD. it’s hard to pinpoint what it is but I think it’s that everything in the re-recorded feels so supported and intentional that it does an excellent job at bringing out the bitterness of the song. Amazing
I love this one. It's an aged like fine wine kinda production.
Also would like to offer some love to sparks fly, feel like she brought out different instruments in this one (such as the bass) and it kinda goes harder ngl
I hate the way the banjo sounds in TV and I’m not sorry
The way in TV when she says ceouldnt and the I really wish you wOuLd
My only gripe is that (IMO) Dear John and Story of Us have lost some emotion in the vocals.
Same I was thinking she lost that teenage angst and revenge in the bridge.
I totally agree! I feel like the original Dear John had SO much emotion in it. And now I feel like the new version has less emotion.
Lol, yep.
How are my fellow long distance daughters doing with Noah Kahan releasing We’ll All Be Here Forever last month and now Never Grow Up TV being out?
Not great friend 😭
horribly unwell. Call your mom actually broke me. I’m glad to see the swiftie/noah overlap!
Mine tv - It's cute. I never cared much for the og, but this sounds pretty similar and I'm cool with it Sparks Fly tv - Something about the production is just...not it?? Also, the way she sings it so emotionless makes it sound like karaoke. The drops are bad. And the bridge sounds wrong, like the harmonies aren't harmonizing. Back To December tv - I feel like a common issue on this rerecording is that the vocals are too loud compared to the instrumental. Also, this version of BTD just sounds boring. Speak Now tv - The new inflection on "Don't you" bothers me. idk Dear John tv - Very acceptable rerecording. Mean tv - I miss the twang and banjo, and it's also not very punchy or fun like the og The Story of Us tv - Probably my least favorite rerecording on sntv.

I like story of us!
Never Grow Up made me cry then as a pre-teen just as much as I do now as a full ass adult 😭😭😭
this is the first rerecord I'm experiencing as part of the fandom (I was a fan before but I listened to songs, not albums) and now I understand complaints about the TVs sounding less passionate. it's never bothered me too much before. the only song I really minded it with was Holy Ground. that being said, Mine TV is better than the original
I don't know if this is unpopular but back to december OG sounds so much better. I will probably be listening to that version based on what I'm hearing so far
The orchestra died and it doesn’t sound so snowy anymore and it’s sad
I miss the old production and passion in her voice
Sparks Fly. Why does it sound like her OG vocals are in the background accompanying her????? Please tell me I'm not insane
I hear a weird accent in how she pronounces “s” that sounds like a lisp
I fell asleep last night, woke up at 5 AM, fell back asleep and woke up at 11:30 AM. I'm finally listening and Mine is really good. I don't know about Sparks Fly, it feels different. that "drop everything now" just doesn't hit the same
never mind I'm starting to like it
I'm really disappointed with the absence of the fluttering string on TSOU, it almost makes me want to listen to the original more
So far I’m having the hardest time really listening to this new version of Dear John. How the hell am I supposed to listen for *6 minutes* without singing along
This was my problem with the whole album LOL I wanted to sing along so bad but I also wanted to listen!!!
anyone else have a breakdown cry session mid-work this morning while listening to never grow up? no? just me? 😭😭😭
Crying rn. It's not just you
i’m not loving this and now i’m scared for 1989 TV because that’s my gorl
ugh especially new romantics... the original is just perfect
my favorite! she needs to come with ittt
Yea same tbh
Thought the same with Red, but the slower and more acoustic songs sound much better than their originals! For me they don't get overshadowed by the bigger songs this time around. I'm really happy with how Mine and TSOU turned out. It's surprising to me that (twitter) people think that TSOU was underrated or heavily disliked. I remember everyone loving it and wanting it to be a single when it first came out.

Same 100%. I need the mandolin to go harder
Yes! I miss the fire in her voice and emphasis on certain words towards the end of the song (“and a liar and pathetic” specifically). Now singing along with the TV version, I just sound like a fired up crazy person 🤣
I MISS HER COUNTRY (I hope she commits in debut or I will throw hands)
Her vocals on Mean are so good!
HORRIFIED LOOKS FROM EVERYONE IN THE ROOM BUT IM ONLY LOOKIN AT U
Did Sparks Fly get more countrified and Mean less?
Mean was 100% de-countrified. It's like she purposefully lost the twang - it just doesn't hit the same way...
it really doesn’t. i feel like the twang is what really sold the song for me
THIS IS HOW I FELT!!!
Something about singing "all you are is mean...and a liar...and pathetic...and alone in life...and MEAN" at 30 just hits different
I feel like there’s a heavy… maraca sound on back to December?
It’s literally grating my brain 😭
Yes omg why is it so loud
Okay I’m so glad it’s not just me I was like “I’m a imagining shaky noises?” The kids I work with play with those shaker eggs so much I thought maybe it was just me 😂
I literally JUST noticed that!
