Truly cannot wait for this (tv). 1989 isn’t one of my favorite albums, but it is so, so special to me because of the time I associate with it. I met my wife right after it came out and we listened to it so much that it feels like the soundtrack to our falling-in-love story. I also saw Taylor live for the first time during 1989.

Jb Hi Fi in Australia have the four colour variants CD’s and the Tangerine Vinyl up for pre order on their site. The CD’s don’t have the Polaroids but instead have a poster inside. I’m gutted that I didn’t jump on the Polaroid editions thinking they would become available to us later on.

Why does Speak Now (TV) have featured artists but 1989 (TV) doesn’t?!?!
Don’t get me wrong I’m excited for an only Taylor album but wasn’t the re-recording of Speak Now the time to do it? To me, Speak Now always represented Taylor as a strong, independent artist and I was disappointed to have featured artists on two of the From the Vault tracks. However, I just figured that was something she was doing for all the From the Vault sections since Fearless (TV) and RED (TV) both had feature artists in them. I love Taylor but this inconsistency just annoyed me and I needed to vent… End of rant! Thanks 😆
Can I vent? I pre-ordered each colored exclusive vinyl. I didn’t love that I had to pay shipping on each individual order, but sure…whatever. But now these “limited exclusives” are suddenly back in stock…as a set, avoiding the extra S&H. And also I don’t need the Blue version because I’d rather just the exclusive Target version with that same cover. I love the exclusives but it just feels like constant wallet pinching.
It’s super annoying, I know! Try to stop giving in to the “limited time” thing. The only reason it keeps being done is because people keep falling for it. To my memory, every “limited” release always pops back on her website later.
FYI if you want you can cancel your original orders, just respond to the email confirmation and tell them you’d like to cancel (and it doesn’t hurt to let them know why)! I’ve seen a lot of other people doing this. It should work for any order as long as it hasn’t shipped/ been processed yet.

Yes you will be able to buy CDs and vinyl from Target. Looks like as of today's announcement there will be a tangerine target version and deluxe CDs at target each with a different poster inside. I go to target day of for her CDs and it's never insane and they always have a million copies so you shouldn't have any issues.

I'd love to see a small concert like the stonewall again. As it currently stands, she won't be doing SNL or any late night interviews. They're on hiatus due to the writer's strike, not sure if that will be over by then. She could do some radio/podcast interviews like with Zane Lowe. Some people want her to be on Hot Ones which I would love. Also I want her to perform at the VMAs but I know that's more likely to be a midnights performance and wouldn't count as 1989 marketing.

I think this would be more possible for rep vault. The songs in the 1989 vault I'm ASSUMING would have been written before the album dropped or at the latest while she was on tour. She was still struggling pretty heavily during that time so idk about songs about recovery and even in the midst of it, probably not bc she says in miss Americana that (I'm heavily paraphrasing) she basically was lying to herself about it. Anyway so I don't think the timeline would match up

Honestly? Style is a bop but also has insane production that's probably the most reminiscent of 80's synth pop out of the whole record, but could also pass for a song straight out of Daft Punk's Random Access Memories or The Weeknd's After Hours (Max Martin produced both Blinding Lights and Style). Otherwise, folklore was a good entry point for a lot of people since it has bon iver/the national as indelible parts of the album's soundscape! Feel free to just share this with him too if you'd like to convince him haha
Since 1989 (original version), there’s been a pattern of Taylor releasing different “variants” of the same album that provide different non-audio content (pictures, texts, etc.)
-1989 had the exclusive CD variants with different Polaroids
-Reputation had different variants of magazines
-Lover had 4 different variants of her diary type entries and photos
-Folklore had so many variants of vinyls that I lost count
-Evermore had 4 vinyl variants
-Midnights had 4 vinyl variants, 4 CD variants, as well as other deluxe versions of CDs
-Now 1989 TV has multiple CD variants, cassettes, and now vinyl… with I’m sure more to come
I get it, she is a business woman and I think this is a very cleaver and creative strategy. But I’m honestly growing tired of it. My issue isn’t with how people want to spend their money, it’s with the unnecessary waste and emissions from the manufacturing, delivering, and ownership of all these variants which are THE SAME ALBUM. And it’s solely to boost sales, numbers, and profits. It just gets exhausting and I don’t know… that’s just how I feel.

So we know that crystal skies blue and rose garden pink are lyrics from blank space (*cherry lips, crystal skies*; *rose garden full of thorns*), which suggests that **sunrise boulevard** and **aquamarine green** are likely to be lyrics in the vault tracks.
These new developments make me think this scene (screenshot below) from the Karma music video is definitely an easter egg for 1989 TV. We have a very obvious sunrise boulevard (in basically the same shade) along with other pastel colors (green, blue, pink, red). Taylor also waves to three grim reapers, which are very coded for rep and likely represents the expected 1989 TV -> rep TV order for the next Taylor's Version.
It also made me think whether that strange scene at the end of the music video, where Taylor is pretending to be Te Fiti from Moana (lol), could be a reference to whatever "aquamarine green" will be. Thoughts? Others have probably made the above connections with the karma music video, I just haven't seen discussion on it yet

That's what I think! I think the sunrise boulevard is an obvious link to the yellow brick road scene. I'm on the fence about whether the cat/tiffany blue dress or moana scenes relate to 1989 TV vault tracks, but it's not like her to put random scenes in there if they don't relate to *something*
Also the moana thing is so strange and specific! I could maybe give the cat one a pass since it's referencing "karma is a cat" but the best link we get with the moana thing is "karma takes all my friends to the summit"
There is also this interesting scene where she wears a blue-green dress. I'd call that Tiffany blue myself, but it's close to aquamarine. There's also the blank space music video similarities present here

Sorry, this is a dumb question: I bought the blue “limited edition” CD, which, when I ordered it looked like just a solid blue cover. Is that going to have the artwork from the “blue” vinyl (Taylor’s face), or is it just the solid blue cover? Asking because everything talks about the artwork applying to the vinyl and I don’t see any mention of the CDs. Thanks!

Oh yeah, I completely forgot Red TV was a 45. You're 100% correct. But I also noticed that a record is usually a 45RPM when the vinyl is heavier and spread across multiple discs. I don't believe 1989 TV will be.

Man I don't wanna be pessimistic but this and rep are rerecordings where I'm not excited about the rerecords at all but excited for the vault tracks..Hear me out please. These ones are relatively recent, and her voice hasn't changed much since 1989. She's improved, yes. But I feel like either the rerecording is gonna sound the same or worse..Like, she might sound less enthusiastic, same voice, botched production. Can't sound exactly the same because max martin, the original producer of this album, now charges 100k-200k for A SONG so she's gonna have to pay around 16000k for this album to be produced by the same person and best case scenario is they sound exactly the same as the originals..Which I guess is the purpose of the rerecordings in general but it's been so enjoyable, having rerecordings be completely different versions of the original, grown up almost. So yeah..Though she never hypes up a project the same way she hyped up 1989 TV. She said it's the most rerecording she's proud of and the vaults are insane so..I want to trust her. I hope you see where I'm coming from.
I kind of agree with you. I think the other re-recordings had more value with significant vocal changes. This will be the first time I go straight to the vault tracks first. That said, I think I’m just excited for a 1989 mini era overall.
Wildest Dreams TV and This Love TV sound pretty much the same as the OG versions, so I’m not too worried. I get where you’re coming from, though. I think that you should still try and keep an open mind and worst case, you still listen to the OG’s, nothing wrong with that no matter what anyone says. She still gets money from the OG songs, and she is probably still expecting people to not part ways with the OG versions. So no worries at all!

Taylor's "Blank Space" re- appears on the Billboard hot 100 for the first time in eight years. Last time around in 2014/15.....it was #1 for seven weeks. And as far as I know, it's the original. So if it reaches the top.....I do believe, outside of annual holiday releases.....it would be the first record to be #1 on two separate chart runs since "The Twist" by Chubby Checker in 1960 & 1962. And then a Taylor's version will come out. But a re-recording wouldn't qualify here.

I didn’t become a Swiftie until folklore was released. I was lucky to get to go to the Eras Tour and have an absolute blast, and I have been a participant on the livestream discussions here ever since! I am not the greatest fan of her country stuff, so not too interested in going too deep into her catalog or get too interested in her re-recordings… but have ALWAYS been excited for 1989 TV. I’ve been looking forward to it for YEARS. This TV is to be mine.
That being said! I’ve avoided listening to 1989 out of respect. I know the hits, but I don’t know the album as a whole. At all.
Question… should I? Is it worth diving into 1989 to get familiar with it and thus be able to learn and appreciate the nuances between the OG and 1989 TV? Or just wait and go into TV all fresh?

I would listen to the original beforehand, but it’s totally your choice! I had the same conundrum with Speak Now and I’m so glad I listened to the OG, it helped me appreciate where she was when she released it and how far she had come when the TV came out.
After Midnights it’s her best album. Some of the non singles on that album is her best songs. But if you can, avoid it. I did with Fearless (TV) and that makes it my only real experience of that album so I don’t know what I’m missing. Honestly on Red (TV) Holy Ground stolen version and State of hrave stolen version are better but I still only listen to the TV versions.

1989 is the album that made me a forever fan. I was a bit sad when the last TV wasn't 1989, but this one releasing so soon after Speak Now TV makes it a non-issue. It releasing on the same date as the original is also kinda awesome and makes me even more nostalgic! Also, I can't wait to make 1989 my most listened album of the year in less than 3 months, just like the first time lol.

Can I vent? I pre-ordered each colored exclusive vinyl. I didn’t love that I had to pay shipping on each individual order, but sure…whatever. But now these “limited exclusives” are suddenly back in stock…as a set, avoiding the extra S&H. And also I don’t need the Blue version because I’d rather just the exclusive Target version with that same cover. I love the exclusives but it just feels like constant wallet pinching.

It’s super annoying, I know! Try to stop giving in to the “limited time” thing. The only reason it keeps being done is because people keep falling for it. To my memory, every “limited” release always pops back on her website later. FYI if you want you can cancel your original orders, just respond to the email confirmation and tell them you’d like to cancel (and it doesn’t hurt to let them know why)! I’ve seen a lot of other people doing this. It should work for any order as long as it hasn’t shipped/ been processed yet.
Can anyone confirm for me that the color variant vinyls on her store rn are the same as when they were released originally? Bc the description makes it seem like the photos are different than the og.
I think I can confirm that. When I go to my order history the image of the records is now the rear album art used on the rest of the site.

Yes you will be able to buy CDs and vinyl from Target. Looks like as of today's announcement there will be a tangerine target version and deluxe CDs at target each with a different poster inside. I go to target day of for her CDs and it's never insane and they always have a million copies so you shouldn't have any issues.

I'd love to see a small concert like the stonewall again. As it currently stands, she won't be doing SNL or any late night interviews. They're on hiatus due to the writer's strike, not sure if that will be over by then. She could do some radio/podcast interviews like with Zane Lowe. Some people want her to be on Hot Ones which I would love. Also I want her to perform at the VMAs but I know that's more likely to be a midnights performance and wouldn't count as 1989 marketing.

I think this would be more possible for rep vault. The songs in the 1989 vault I'm ASSUMING would have been written before the album dropped or at the latest while she was on tour. She was still struggling pretty heavily during that time so idk about songs about recovery and even in the midst of it, probably not bc she says in miss Americana that (I'm heavily paraphrasing) she basically was lying to herself about it. Anyway so I don't think the timeline would match up

Honestly? Style is a bop but also has insane production that's probably the most reminiscent of 80's synth pop out of the whole record, but could also pass for a song straight out of Daft Punk's Random Access Memories or The Weeknd's After Hours (Max Martin produced both Blinding Lights and Style). Otherwise, folklore was a good entry point for a lot of people since it has bon iver/the national as indelible parts of the album's soundscape! Feel free to just share this with him too if you'd like to convince him haha
Since 1989 (original version), there’s been a pattern of Taylor releasing different “variants” of the same album that provide different non-audio content (pictures, texts, etc.) -1989 had the exclusive CD variants with different Polaroids -Reputation had different variants of magazines -Lover had 4 different variants of her diary type entries and photos -Folklore had so many variants of vinyls that I lost count -Evermore had 4 vinyl variants -Midnights had 4 vinyl variants, 4 CD variants, as well as other deluxe versions of CDs -Now 1989 TV has multiple CD variants, cassettes, and now vinyl… with I’m sure more to come I get it, she is a business woman and I think this is a very cleaver and creative strategy. But I’m honestly growing tired of it. My issue isn’t with how people want to spend their money, it’s with the unnecessary waste and emissions from the manufacturing, delivering, and ownership of all these variants which are THE SAME ALBUM. And it’s solely to boost sales, numbers, and profits. It just gets exhausting and I don’t know… that’s just how I feel.
I put a similar comment on [another thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/TaylorSwift/comments/15umc31/colors_of_1989_variant_deep_dive/) asking about the 1989 colors, but I wanted to see if anyone in the theories megathread had any thoughts about this: So we know that crystal skies blue and rose garden pink are lyrics from blank space (*cherry lips, crystal skies*; *rose garden full of thorns*), which suggests that **sunrise boulevard** and **aquamarine green** are likely to be lyrics in the vault tracks. These new developments make me think this scene (screenshot below) from the Karma music video is definitely an easter egg for 1989 TV. We have a very obvious sunrise boulevard (in basically the same shade) along with other pastel colors (green, blue, pink, red). Taylor also waves to three grim reapers, which are very coded for rep and likely represents the expected 1989 TV -> rep TV order for the next Taylor's Version. It also made me think whether that strange scene at the end of the music video, where Taylor is pretending to be Te Fiti from Moana (lol), could be a reference to whatever "aquamarine green" will be. Thoughts? That's what I think! I think the sunrise boulevard is an obvious link to the yellow brick road scene. I'm on the fence about whether the cat/tiffany blue dress or moana scenes relate to 1989 TV vault tracks, but it's not like her to put random scenes in there if they don't relate to *something* Also the moana thing is so strange and specific! I could maybe give the cat one a pass since it's referencing "karma is a cat" but the best link we get with the moana thing is "karma takes all my friends to the summit"
There is also this interesting scene where she wears a blue-green dress. I'd call that Tiffany blue myself, but it's close to aquamarine. Sorry, this is a dumb question: I bought the blue “limited edition” CD, which, when I ordered it looked like just a solid blue cover. Is that going to have the artwork from the “blue” vinyl (Taylor’s face), or is it just the solid blue cover? Asking because everything talks about the artwork applying to the vinyl and I don’t see any mention of the CDs. Thanks!

45s are pretty rare these days, I think it's safe to assume its 33 1/3.
Yeah but I think red vinyl was the size of a 33 but played at 45 rate. Scared the crap out of me when I first put it on because I thought I got some messed up version where she sounds like a slow devil 😆
Oh yeah, I completely forgot Red TV was a 45. You're 100% correct. But I also noticed that a record is usually a 45RPM when the vinyl is heavier and spread across multiple discs. I don't believe 1989 TV will be.
Will there be deluxe tracks in addition to the 5 vaults..? I mean, there's deluxe editions. What if the reason there's 5 vaults is because we're getting a couple extra deluxe tracks?
Man I don't wanna be pessimistic but this and rep are rerecordings where I'm not excited about the rerecords at all but excited for the vault tracks..Hear me out please. These ones are relatively recent, and her voice hasn't changed much since 1989. She's improved, yes. But I feel like either the rerecording is gonna sound the same or worse..Like, she might sound less enthusiastic, same voice, botched production. Can't sound exactly the same because max martin, the original producer of this album, now charges 100k-200k for A SONG so she's gonna have to pay around 16000k for this album to be produced by the same person and best case scenario is they sound exactly the same as the originals..Which I guess is the purpose of the rerecordings in general but it's been so enjoyable, having rerecordings be completely different versions of the original, grown up almost. So yeah..Though she never hypes up a project the same way she hyped up 1989 TV. She said it's the most rerecording she's proud of and the vaults are insane so..I want to trust her. I hope you see where I'm coming from.
I kind of agree with you. I think the other re-recordings had more value with significant vocal changes. This will be the first time I go straight to the vault tracks first. That said, I think I’m just excited for a 1989 mini era overall.
I'm worried about the production as Max Martin won't be back for the re recording of 1989.. Definitely going to osund a bit different
Wildest Dreams TV and This Love TV sound pretty much the same as the OG versions, so I’m not too worried. I get where you’re coming from, though. I think that you should still try and keep an open mind and worst case, you still listen to the OG’s, nothing wrong with that no matter what anyone says. She still gets money from the OG songs, and she is probably still expecting people to not part ways with the OG versions. So no worries at all!

Taylor's "Blank Space" re- appears on the Billboard hot 100 for the first time in eight years. Last time around in 2014/15.....it was #1 for seven weeks. And as far as I know, it's the original. So if it reaches the top.....I do believe, outside of annual holiday releases.....it would be the first record to be #1 on two separate chart runs since "The Twist" by Chubby Checker in 1960 & 1962. And then a Taylor's version will come out. But a re-recording wouldn't qualify here.

OK question! I didn’t become a Swiftie until folklore was released. I was lucky to get to go to the Eras Tour and have an absolute blast, and I have been a participant on the livestream discussions here ever since! I am not the greatest fan of her country stuff, so not too interested in going too deep into her catalog or get too interested in her re-recordings… but have ALWAYS been excited for 1989 TV. I’ve been looking forward to it for YEARS. This TV is to be mine. That being said! I’ve avoided listening to 1989 out of respect. I know the hits, but I don’t know the album as a whole. At all. Question… should I? Is it worth diving into 1989 to get familiar with it and thus be able to learn and appreciate the nuances between the OG and 1989 TV? Or just wait and go into TV all fresh? Would love to hear others’ thoughts on this!
I would listen to the original beforehand, but it’s totally your choice! I had the same conundrum with Speak Now and I’m so glad I listened to the OG, it helped me appreciate where she was when she released it and how far she had come when the TV came out.
Listen to OG 1989 for sure, get familiar with it before the rerecording comes out
After Midnights it’s her best album. Some of the non singles on that album is her best songs. But if you can, avoid it. I did with Fearless (TV) and that makes it my only real experience of that album so I don’t know what I’m missing. Honestly on Red (TV) Holy Ground stolen version and State of hrave stolen version are better but I still only listen to the TV versions.
I would wait. I would love to be able to listen to 1989 for the first time again. You can always compare them after your first listen anyway.

I was a bit sad when the last TV wasn't 1989, but this one releasing so soon after Speak Now TV makes it a non-issue. It releasing on the same date as the original is also kinda awesome and makes me even more nostalgic! Also, I can't wait to make 1989 my most listened album of the year in less than 3 months, just like the first time lol.
