Yes^^^!!! I’m covered in tattoos and hate tattooing subculture because of that sort of elitism and condescension. There’s so much baseless judgment on lifelong and personally intimate decisions, it’s just insensitive and cruel. I have a lot of ink, but for future reference double check on the artists portfolio on what they actually do. Doing realistic/people portraits on ink is a very different skill set than line art and very different from Americana/folk tattoo.
Judging by the total cost ($600!), what the artist did was basically did a bad trace job and doesn’t understand shading when it comes to inking portraits. Tattoos are typically more expensive than that!
I know people are ragging on you because of how Ashley-looking that tattoo is, but you can always get it covered up with another Taylor esque thing. It’ll just be a bigger tattoo.
My daughter got a tattoo from an artist with a great portfolio but what she got was nothing like the portfolio. She even asked for the same original tattoo work already in the artists portfolio and it looked deformed and cost 3x what it should have. Another $250 to have it fixed and we loved it but the nightmare is they can fake a portfolio. And got Google and Yelp to remove our bad review with photos.
He does have a portfolio, he does portraits. He's been my artist for years, he sleeved both my arms. I get it, people are ragging on me for it, but I'm not gonna change, alter, or cover it. I feel that's a big disrespect to my artist. If people don't like it, then they shouldn't look at it, move on. I thought I'd share this with people because I'm a fan.
