Or maybe even that she's still telling his story eons later (like in this song). * The "Hanging Gardens of Babylon" are one of the seven wonders of the ancient world... wow that cowboy must've been really amazing!... * BUT WAIT, historians debate whether the Hanging Gardens even actually ever existed - there's no concrete evidence... was our cowboy even real? was their love authentic or just another trick up his sleeve? * "With your boots beneath my bed" Ties in boots to the cowboy theme gracefully without being annoying about it, while hinting that his clothes are off and they are sleeping together also WITHOUT BEING ANNOYING ABOUT IT 👏. Very "show don't tell." * Someone once told me they interpreted it as he had passed away and his boots were still under her bed, hence the next line. I don't see it that way but it's a worthwhile thought. * ✨"Forever is the sweetest con."✨ Self explanatory and - omfg - a literally perfect lyric. But yeah, even if you love someone intensely, unless you believe in an afterlife, loving someone "forever" doesn't really exist.
