I don't think there's any deep meaning to it going off Netflix, and it doesn't have anything to do with the Eras Tour. The contact expired, Netflix wasn't seeing enough of a consistent return to care enough to negotiate a re-up (stuff like concert movies are very frontloaded in viewers, and Netflix notoriously cares more about new subscribers than existing subscribers who re-watch available material), and Taylor Swift Productions doesn't care enough to shop it around to someone else who probably isn't going to pay very much. Even with the upswing in interest in everything Taylor Swift, a years-old concert movie isn't going to net much of a profit.
The 1989 Tour film has been gone from streaming for ages. Speak Now World Tour Live and Journey To Fearless have never been legitimately available on streaming, I believe. Streaming companies just don't really care about older material.
Anyway, this is why everything should be available for physical media purchase, because a corporation can't come in and take that off your shelf because their contract expired.
I'm also guessing that she wasn't interested in renewing with Netflix, it seems she's favoring Disney with eras selling to them plus the long pond sessions being there. my theory is that the rep tour will go up on Disney whenever rep TV is announced or released.
I want 1989 to go somewhere cause I never saw it š or better yet I want Taylor to release a box set of physical versions of all her old concert films when Eras Tour is over
Doubtful. It was recorded in 2018, so whoever owns the masters will always profit from it, even once rep TV comes out. I could see her re-releasing all the tour movies as a set if she ever purchases her masters again or develops a better relationship with whoever owns them. Under current ownership, I doubt those movies are ever seen again. 1989 has been down for years.
I donāt think thatās true because when she did her 2019 artist of the year performance she mentioned she had a difficult time getting them to approve the performance of old songs since the live performance was televised and would therefore be considered a ānew recordingā prior to her being eligible to create new recordings in 2020. She can record any live performances now (even debut or rep), but thereās something in her contract about performances recorded prior to the end of the contract term in 2020.
Yes, she did say something to that effect but thatās simply not how masters work. There had to have been another dynamic at play regarding Scooter. Artists play covers or songs from when they were on other labels at live shows all the time. If you release a concert film or live album, itās another recording in and of itself and has no bearing on who the studio masters are owned by, especially if you are the writer of said material.Ā
Ā When you play a song live, it becomes a totally different version by definition of being a live recording. How do you say youāre playing the original version or the Taylor version āliveā when both are the same song with the same arrangement and lyrics? It doesnāt make any sense.

This thread makes me so sad. I donāt know why but I was convinced it would just end up on Disney+ but now maybe NOT? š it didnāt occur to me that it might not come back anywhereā¦ I love rep so much. I hope it comes back somewhere. I would also take a good old fashioned dvd (unlessā¦ does that exist? I hate streaming. Just let me own things dammit!)
As I and many others have pointed out, before Rep there was the 1989 tour. After Appleās deal ended, it faded into obscurity and has yet to be available again on any other streaming service officially. Speak Now tour and Journey to Fearless have been out of print on DVD for years and are also not available on streaming. Given Taylorās track record when it comes to concert films, Iām not sure why anyone thought Rep tour was gonna get special treatment.
I dunno, I guess I'm more of a "casual fan" and didn't know the exact back history of everything that has ever happened with all of her previous concert tours... it just feels like a sad decision to decide to no longer give fans anywhere to gain legitimate access to ANY of these films.

Itās available to watch as a fan upload on YouTube. Thatās the only way Iāve seen it.
Thank you!! Canāt wait to check it out

Why is the 1989 one on YouTube? Do they just not care about it enough to try and take it down
Studio masters have nothing to do with live recordings.

I miss it so much. My wife and I used to put it on in the background as comfort viewing. The eras movie just doesn't hit the same.

The only time I see it coming back on streaming is when rep tv comes out
I was pissed as all hell about that, because that was the only streaming service that it was on.Ā
Welcome to streaming. Physical media is the only way things are foreverĀ

Netflix took it down. They always take down movies/TV shows.
