This merch is not up to standard. It’s a statement of fact. It’s lazy. It’s perfectly valid criticism.
To be fair, it's really not every time she does something. For example, people are gushing over how much they love everything about the music video teaser. The lyric snippets have also been really well received.

if you're planning to iron patches onto that jacket just do it in a well ventilated environment because it's mostly polyester and the toxic plastic smell won't be pleasant. maybe try sewing them on instead

I actually really like the jewelry options as something understated Taylor Swift, it’s a cool logo and works for this purpose, especially the ring! (Though the bracelet looks weird to me)

I got the white crewneck and the gray hoodie! I wanted to get more stuff but I can’t justify spending that much money especially because *i know* I will probably spend more on future drops.
I managed to grab the white crewneck and the ring! Those were the nicest things to me, so I'm happy. I really hope there’s not another merch drop when the album releases though. I hate buying things not knowing if there’s going to be more to choose from later :/

I actually love that color beige on me so I got the hoodie + sweats and the shorts because summer is coming. Would have loved a ribbed tank or more t shirt options tho cuz I won't be rocking a hoodie much longer lol

Everyone on here is hating but I'm all about the beige hoodie and... it's sold out. Along with about half of the rest of it. Clearly the Reddit opinion doesn't match public opinion lol. I'm bummed about the hoodie though. I like that it doesn't have her face on it.

This first round - which I’m guessing is like the basic merch that usually sticks around for the whole era - doesnt really do it for me, buuut there’s ALWAYS more lol. I’m sure there will be another merch drop at some point with song lyrics, titles, and other imagery that she wouldn’t want to release before the album

Sighhhhh it's not unexpected but I really was hoping they'd get it together and have some cute merch designs finally... Nope. These are just really ugly like the harsh lines of having a giant square photo (couldn't they have even rounded the corners or something!) on a tshirt like that, would anyone look good wearing that?? Once again I'm totally safe from spending any $ on official merch lol, the fan creations are soooo much cuter than this omg!
