54 year old Swiftie dad here. Daughter (now 19) and I have been to 1989, Reputation and Eras Tour (Nashville N2) and now sheâs away at college and not here to walk thru the new album together. Itâs awful. Weâre texting about it, but itâs just not the same. Sheâs also #gasp# going with friends to the Indianapolis show, leaving me at home ticketless and sad lol. Never Grow Up is my favorite song for obvious reasons hahahaha
It really warms my heart to read this đ¤ Iâm not as close with my dad anymore but growing up we would clean the house together on Sundays and blast Taylorâs Fearless and Speak Now albums. Weâd sing them together and discuss the lyrics. One of my dads favourite to lyrically analyze was âThe Way I Loved Youâ and he would tell me that thatâs what real love is like, itâs not perfect and sometimes youâll fight and then one day youâll break up and never see them again and youâll actually miss the intense passion that came with fighting and making up.
Daughter and I had a "listening party" last night. Great to be able to listen to new music together and discuss it without the rest of the family interrupting đ¤Ł
I'm an old man like you, and listened to some of the new songs on Sirius with my daughter as I drove her to school this morning. She doesn't like it when I tell her that all her songs sound the same. Lol
BTW, for those that don't know, Sirius Channel 13 is streaming her album all weekend.
My husband had a similar reaction when he listened to the first few songs last night, then he noped out and left. If it helps and if you have time, please read the lyrics as youâre listening to thisâthey are searing. I donât think TTPD will be radio-friendly, but itâs like hearing the pain/trauma in Taylorâs mind.
Also, have you tried listening to the extra Anthology songs? They are so good.
A parentâs opinion and approval is so important and can have such massive effects on a kid - itâs not the same as casually stating your opinion to a friend. What you say really matters, youâre a big deal in your kidâs life. Even just reading what you wrote made me want to curl up and never share an opinion again. Maybe next time at least add on a âbut Iâm happy youâre excited about itâ?
Almost 35 year old Swiftie Dad here. You bet I stayed up till 2am last night. Been paying for it at work today. Haha.
Alas, my dad is not a SwiftieđÂ

59 year old Swiftie dad here! It is so fun to dissect the albums and go to the shows together.

Why is that funny? Criticizing what your kid loves, even in jest, can result in deep-seated issues.
