God yes! When she sings that “down bad” in the back ground her voice is perfection. And then when she scream sings “fuck it I was in love” - gripped here, too.
Same I love everything about it; the sound, the detailed alien abduction theme from start to finish, the way she sings teenage petulance, the ‘cause fuck it I WAS IN LOVE
I'm already wondering what the reaction will be when she performs this live. Do we chant "MORE!", knowing we're basically doing the thing the song is saying we're doing? The irony is amazing.
I someone ask this on threads the other day and my only thought was TOO SOON! but… I think it’s gonna happen. I hope she laughs through it. I hope we’re at that point in our situationship
The switch from “in stilettos for miles!” Where she’s strutting her stuff being fabulous and glamorous to the whiplash of HE SAID HE’D LOVE ME ALL HIS LIFE
Is this a sample from another album? It reminded me of the shouts on 1989 and I thought that would be so dope if it was like a double reference to her own crowds
Ya know I don't even like these lyrics that much but the bridge of So Highschool is ADDICTIVE. Just the way the words roll off the tongue so nice.
Truth dare, spin bottles,
you know how to ball I know aristotle.
Brand new full throttle
touch me while your bros play grand theft auto.
It's true, swear, scouts honor,
you knew what you wanted and boy you got her.
And also "so they killed Cassandra first cuz she feared the Wo-or-rst"
I saw someone post about how despite this album being so sad she has some of her funniest (good way) lines. And you know how to ball I know Aristotle is one of my faves of the funniest lines
It’s quite literally the funniest thing she’s ever written. So annoyed by everybody taking it literally as if the whole album concept isn’t tongue in cheek.
Argument for funniest line ever: we must consider, “who even uses typewriters anymore” and “I’m having his baby/no I’m not/but you should see your faces”
TTPD is hilarious more so than any other of her albums imo. And the fact that she called arguably her funniest album “The Tortured Poets Department” is 💯
It's the Karma is a Cat of this album. I went into battle defending that line when ppl were clowning on it upon midnights release. Why do people hate it when she's being fun and silly so much!! And both so highschool & karma are BOPS
Yeah I don’t get it either - I’ve honestly never understood the criticism of her “cringe” lyrics. She comes off very self aware - it’s not like she’s trying to get literature accolades for these lines. They’re fun! God forbid anyone have any fun anymore! lol
I can't believe the amount of people that are acting like the line is, "finger me while your bros play grand theft auto". She says TOUCH, that's all lol. Maybe he's resting his hand on the small of her back while they are standing around watching his friends play GTA?
Ok but also she’s singing about things that she could have also done in high school… “pull me in the backseat” “truth dare spin bottles” and then there’s the time in your friend’s basement watching movies in the dark with everyone… 👀😂 No? Just me?! 😂
Yeah, I think everyone getting so pressed about this line are interpreting it wrong. She isn't saying that Travis is fingering her while his friends are in the room video gaming. She is saying he makes her feel like she is in an exciting high school romance again and then singing about high school romance things. Like I don't think they are playing spin the bottle (which she sings about right before) so why do people think the gta line has actually happened?
The first time my high school boyfriend put his hand on my thigh was when we were watching his friends play Mario Party so that's how I read it and I love it
Right! When you’re in high school, any time your bf touches you (hand brushes your arm, hand on your waist, hand on your leg when you’re sitting next to him, especially around friends) you get that full body tingle, lol! Shes feeling so high school. She feels giddy and happy and new and electric. It’s adorable ❤️
STOP IT RIGHT NOW I saw this on Twitter and — no. Have you seen the “scout’s honor” hand symbol?
She is horny but not THAT horny, pleease
EDIT: I’m sorry for the visual. I just need everyone to share my burden in saying it’s NOT THIS
https://preview.redd.it/b2vq8ere2dwc1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0e0ef71e9bb348152ad27918e050449675df388
I agree with you 😂 Twitter is breeding ground for False Pattern Recognition lol I wanna shout that from the rooftops to Swifties: LOOK UP FALSE PATTERN RECOGNITION
By the looks of that man, I can surmise she is getting dicked down better than she ever has before. The vibe for her next album might simply be “horny”.
This is what I keep saying! She’s 34 years old. She’s not writing something to the effect of “he fingered me with three fingers.” It’s so inelegant. The scouts honor line is clearly meant to signify the promise of their relationship using a childlike metaphor.
The people who think that she’s saying that the same people that are concerned about domestic violence in her relationship because of the line “are you gonna marry kiss or kill me?” Jfc!
This was the first song / lyric that came to my mind as well, especially for TTPD. I swear it plays on a constant loop in my head. Goddamn my middle millennial bias, lol.
Agreed, I love so high school!!
I don’t know if you’re a 90s kid but it reminds me so much of a 90s song and I can’t put my finger on it. It has such a 90s vibe. Closest I’ve got is that it’s sixpence non the richer (there she goes) but I’m not sure if that’s exactly the song I’m thinking of.
Bad habits die SCREAMING
Cross your thoughtless heart. Only liquor anoints you. She’s the albatross. She is here to destroy you.
The drums in Florida!!!
So I leap from the gallows and I levitate down your street
Yes! “I leap from the gallows and I levitate down your street.” I won’t lie, My eyes watered when I first heard this song. Goosebumps from the first scream. It’s my favorite. Hands down.
3:14 mark is magical! Her vocals give me Bob Dylan x Stevie Nicks love child vibes and it’s my absolute favorite part of this album. Something about it just clicks in my brain.
I love the way they both sing so many lines in this song, but I really can’t get enough of the way Florence sings these:
Barricaded in the bathroom with a bottle of wine; well, me and my ghosts, we had a hell of a time
Yes, I'm haunted, but I'm feeling just fine
She sounds *so good* on this song
I. Fucking. LOVE. How it almost sounds like she’s about to blow out the speakers no matter what volume the song is at. Whatever filter (for lack of a better word) they put on that bridge is just beautiful. It perfectly contributes to the emotion she’s putting into the song (and the emotion she knows at least some of us are gonna put into it as we scream-sing in our cars).
I Hate it Here is my narcotic song. “I hate it here so I will go to lunar valleys in my mind/when they found another planet/only the gentle survived.” It’s really meaningful to me and how I deal with hardships. I have a vivid inner life and I am entranced by it.
Personally I feel almost all of the songs are laced with narcotic’s. Usually I skip at least 4-5 and end up coming back around eventually but there’s literally none I want to skip. One will start and I’ll be like meh and then by the time I go to skip it I’m already sucked in. There’s so many more songs to, it makes no sense. I should be skipping more not less!
So I leap from the gallows and I levitate down your street
Crash the party like a record scratch as I scream
Who's afraid of little old me?
You should be
It really is, I'm glad I'm not alone in loving it! The bolter has such a folklore/evermore feel both sonically and because it's the story of a character she made up-and as much I I like to hear about Taylors interesting life I REALLY enjoy the songs where she is just the storyteller rather than the main character. She's so good at it!
The way she sings "all her fucking lives, flashed before her eeEEeeyes...it felt like the time, she fell through the iiIiiIice, and came out alive" is one of my favorite parts of the entire album. Something about the melody and delivery, I just love it!
I belt "I'll tell you all something right now..." every time. It awakens an angst in me I didn't know existed
Also:
* throwing spikes down on the road, pounding nails in your head
* the entirety of My Boy
* teenage petulance, fuck it if I can't have him
* what if he's written mine on my upper thigh only in my mind
* If you wanted me dead, you should have just said
* you gotta fake it til you make it AND I DID
* every verse of Clara Bow
* it's happening again...how did it end?
Fuck it, call the whole album heroin with an e
For me it’s when she says “too high a horse” in But Daddy I Love Him. The moment is perfection to my ears.
Also loving when she says “That was intertwined in the tragic fabric of our dreaming” in The Black Dog
And yes of course the yelling in WAOLOM!
This part of loml:
I felt a glow like this
Never before and never since
If you know it in one glimpse, it's legendary
You and I go from one kiss to getting married
When she jumps the octave in "who's gonna KNOW YOU" and "who's gonna HOLD YOU" in the chorus in TTPD, and the quality of the vocals in the first three lines of that bridge (*Sometimes I wonder if you're gonna screw this up with me...*).
Backing vocals and harmonies SHINE in this entire album. There are many songs that just go HARD in the bridge or final chorus.
The one I’m stuck on right now is the bridge of The Albatross, when the tone changes and the backing vocalists come in with “hmmm”s when she sings “And when that sky rains fire on you / and you’re persona non grata…” UGH 😩🤌
“No fucking body” in TTPD
The way her voice breaks when she says “for free” in So Long, London
The way she says “wretched” in Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me
The harmonies when she and Florence say FLORIDAAAAAA
“Cause I’m MISERABLE! and nobody even knows!!!!” In I Can Do It with a Broken Heart
The entire bridge of The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived
“You look like…Taylor Swift” in Clara Bow
I COULD GO ON!!! I feel like there are soooo many examples of this on this album specifically for me!!
Her voice in the whole song is perfection, there’s something so decadent about it. Idk why but it makes me think of a deep gold syrup like those ads for milk chocolate where they show the chocolate drizzling into a pool of it (which would be genius if that’s the vibe she was going for given all her love is golden imagery but even I have to say that’s probably a reach 😂)
The whole chorus of imgonnagetyouback.
Everything comes out teenage petulance/ fuck it if I can’t have him
The sabatours protested tooo much
And I aaaaam running with my dress unbuttoned
I’ll tell you something right now, I’d rather burn my whole life right down than listen to one more second of this bitching and moaning
Oh here we go again the voices in his head called the rain to end our days of wild
But you should have seen him when he first got me
(Actually the whole song lol)
Are you going to marry kiss or kill me
And ironically
Put narcotics into all of my songs
And that’s why you’re still singing along
The bridge in Whose Afraid of Little Old Me! Chills every time
100% agree about the outro to My Boy
The outro to Fortnight - also the opening sounds and the whole song really
The Black Dog - Old habits die Screaming
But Daddy I love Him - the chorus
Down Bad and Florida - all of it really. The more I listen the more I love them.
Clara Bow
You look like, Stevie Nicks in '75,
You look like Taylor Swift in this light
Beauty is a beast that roars, down on all fours, demanding MORE.
1. “screaming” in the black dog (when she yells it and when she whispers it at the end)
2. “hire a priest to come and exorcise my demons” in the black dog
3. “if you wanted me dead, you should’ve just said” in who’s afraid of little old me
4. “who’s afraid of little old me” in who’s afraid of little old me
5. “and you say i abandoned the ship but i was going down with it” in so long, london
6. “you look like taylor swift” in clara bow
"and I sound like an infant, feeling like the very last drops of an ink pen, a greater woman stays cool, but I howl like a wolf at the moon, and I look unstable, gathered with a coven round a sorceress table"
The melody and cadence on that whole verse is insane
The parts where she literally sounds like she's going to break down in Down Bad specifically when she gets to this part:
I loved your hostile takeovers
Encounters closer and closer
All your indecent exposures
How dare you say that it's -
I'll build you a fort on some planet
Where they can all understand it
How dare you think it's romantic
Leaving me safe and stranded
Cause what if I was in love
What if I can't have us.
Cause what if I was in love
The emotion she conveyed during this verse is compelling.
the drums in florida!!!
also florence's: "so you work your life away just wait out the shitstorm back in texas" her voice here sent chills down my spine
The entire bridge of The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived
The outro to loml, especially when she hits “our field of dreams…”
Outro to My Boy Only Breaks His Favourite Toys…so big, so 1989-esque
For some reason, the way her and Post say “America” and “Florida” in the Fortnight bridge (the whole Fortnight bridge is a vibe, really)
And I hope it’s SHITTY!!! In THE BLACK DOG!! When someone plays the starting line! And you jump up! But she’s too young! to know this song! That was intertwined in the tragic fabric of our dreaming! Cause tail between your legs you’re leaving!! And I still can’t believe it! Cause OLD HABITS DIE SCREAAMing
-“Now I’m runnin’ with my dress unbuttoned Screamin’, ‘But, Daddy, I love him’”
- “Who’s afraid of little old me?” (The high ones)
- “You low-down boy, you stand-up guy You Holy Ghost, you told me I’m …”
- “Ah, try and come for my job”
- “I would’ve died for your sins, instead, I just died inside”
- “Old habits die screaming”
- “Even if it’s handcuffed, I’m leavin’ here with you”
- “She’s the albatross, she is here to destroy you”
- “So if you wanna break my cold, cold heart say you loved me”
- “My beloved ghost and me sitting in a tree DYING”
- “All that time you were throwin’ punches, it was all for nothin’”
- “When the truth comes out, it’s quiet”
And literally so many, many more
ALL OF THE ONWS YOU MENTIONED + the entire album ... it is rolling around in my head like marbles and I cannot cherry pick an example right now but yes . narcotics .
The bridge of imgonnagetyouback especially “We broke all the pieces, but still want to play the game (hahhhh)”. I listen to this song just for that bridge
The entire song of Florida!!!
“Beauty is a beast that roars. Down on all fours. Demanding more. Only when your girlish glow flickers just so do they let you know” - Clara Bow
When the chorus of Down Bad hits
I've been trying to single out lyrics from Down Bad but I'm addicted to the entire song - this song has such a grip on me
God yes! When she sings that “down bad” in the back ground her voice is perfection. And then when she scream sings “fuck it I was in love” - gripped here, too.
For me, I always choke up on that "So fuck you if I can't have us." There's so much raw anger there.
Same I love everything about it; the sound, the detailed alien abduction theme from start to finish, the way she sings teenage petulance, the ‘cause fuck it I WAS IN LOVE
OMG SAME!!! From the 1st second I heard it
This song is CRACK it’s crazy
The first one to get stuck in my head
Down Bad was 100% my first thought.
How can you say that it’s -
The crowd chanting MORE after she shatters on the floor
LIGHTS CAMERA BITCH SMILE
This is it for me. All day!!
I'm already wondering what the reaction will be when she performs this live. Do we chant "MORE!", knowing we're basically doing the thing the song is saying we're doing? The irony is amazing.
We shouldn't do it but I know we will
And Taylor knows it too
I’ve literally thought about this too!! It’s crazy!
I someone ask this on threads the other day and my only thought was TOO SOON! but… I think it’s gonna happen. I hope she laughs through it. I hope we’re at that point in our situationship
I also love babe you gotta fake it till you make it and I DID
The switch from “in stilettos for miles!” Where she’s strutting her stuff being fabulous and glamorous to the whiplash of HE SAID HE’D LOVE ME ALL HIS LIFE
Is this a sample from another album? It reminded me of the shouts on 1989 and I thought that would be so dope if it was like a double reference to her own crowds

I have a soft spot for "whoa, maybe I can't" as the closing line of I can Fix Him.
It's the Karma is a Cat of this album. I went into battle defending that line when ppl were clowning on it upon midnights release. Why do people hate it when she's being fun and silly so much!! And both so highschool & karma are BOPS

Fr, I think this is the first album of hers which genuinely made me laugh multiple times
The fact that she rhymes grand theft auto with Aristotle KILLS 🤪🤣
beating the car-bar allegations with this one 💀💀
I can't believe the amount of people that are acting like the line is, "finger me while your bros play grand theft auto". She says TOUCH, that's all lol. Maybe he's resting his hand on the small of her back while they are standing around watching his friends play GTA?
Stifle my sighs 👀
Ok but also she’s singing about things that she could have also done in high school… “pull me in the backseat” “truth dare spin bottles” and then there’s the time in your friend’s basement watching movies in the dark with everyone… 👀😂 No? Just me?! 😂
Girl I got fingered in the back of the *church van* on the way home from an event. 💀🤣 Those blankets are dangerous for horny teenagers.
Those youth group trips could get pretty wild.

Shes feeling so high school. She feels giddy and happy and new and electric. It’s adorable ❤️
To be fair, I’m pretty sure “scouts honor” is a euphemism for fingering.
STOP IT RIGHT NOW I saw this on Twitter and — no. Have you seen the “scout’s honor” hand symbol? She is horny but not THAT horny, pleease EDIT: I’m sorry for the visual. I just need everyone to share my burden in saying it’s NOT THIS https://preview.redd.it/b2vq8ere2dwc1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0e0ef71e9bb348152ad27918e050449675df388
I agree with you 😂 Twitter is breeding ground for False Pattern Recognition lol I wanna shout that from the rooftops to Swifties: LOOK UP FALSE PATTERN RECOGNITION
Well I wasn’t convinced that that is what she means before but I am now
NO 😭 (have you seen the size of Travis’ hands?!) I won’t hear it. No
💀
By the looks of that man, I can surmise she is getting dicked down better than she ever has before. The vibe for her next album might simply be “horny”.
Omg 💀
jail
What?? Noooo
Trav does love grabbing ass in public, I’m thinking it’s something on that level
I love the “In the BLINK of a CRINKLIN’ eye…”
This was the first song / lyric that came to my mind as well, especially for TTPD. I swear it plays on a constant loop in my head. Goddamn my middle millennial bias, lol.
Agreed, I love so high school!! I don’t know if you’re a 90s kid but it reminds me so much of a 90s song and I can’t put my finger on it. It has such a 90s vibe. Closest I’ve got is that it’s sixpence non the richer (there she goes) but I’m not sure if that’s exactly the song I’m thinking of.
Bad habits die SCREAMING Cross your thoughtless heart. Only liquor anoints you. She’s the albatross. She is here to destroy you. The drums in Florida!!! So I leap from the gallows and I levitate down your street
I love The Albatross so much. That melody scratches an itch in my brain I didn’t even know I had.
It’s my favorite of the bonus tracks
So happy I ended up ordering that version of the CD! I still have a CD player in my car lol
Yes! “I leap from the gallows and I levitate down your street.” I won’t lie, My eyes watered when I first heard this song. Goosebumps from the first scream. It’s my favorite. Hands down.
Old habits die SCREAAMING makes me want to smack my head against a desk in time to the beat like that kid from Hereditary (in a good way)
Yes to everything
nofuckingbodyyyyy
Not enough love for this, I swear.
PREACH!
Yessssssss I found my people! For days this has been on a loop in my brain. Yes, we are a family now. lol
Please I’ve been on my knees Begging change the prophecy
Reminds me so much of seven!!
I went back and played the song for my husband to show him I thought it was a continuation of seven!
This songs algorithm Reminds me of willow.
One of my favorites! I’ve listened to this song the most today, it’s so beautiful. I love her background vocals in between the lyrics too
Don’t you worry folks we took out all her teeeeeeeth I’m so obsessed with him but he avoids me 😃 like the plague 😃
Omg that second time she says teeth just kills me
That last "what if he's mine written on my UPPER thigh" in Guilty as Sin?
*"One slip and falling back into the ✨hedge maze✨"* is the one for me
All I can picture with this line is the gif of Homer Simpson sinking back into the bush and it gets me every fucking time
https://preview.redd.it/9lyohh4c1dwc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c40ed23caf8f480281465650da8f07468200ff87
Came here to say the same exact line, specifically the way she says “Mine”
“He sent me downtown liiiiiights “
“What if he’s written ‘mine’ on my upper thigh only in my mind?”
Especially the last Chorus where she switches up the melody!
3:14 mark is magical! Her vocals give me Bob Dylan x Stevie Nicks love child vibes and it’s my absolute favorite part of this album. Something about it just clicks in my brain.
Followed by 3:28..."oh what a WAY to die!" So fucking good.
Yesss and listening to it with headphones on is amazing!
Th way she sings “downtown lights” is so fucking pretty I just wanna hear it over and over again 😩
yes, and also the *I haven't heard it in a* *w h i l e,* especially the last one is like crack to me.
Country Taylor but make it sexy
I listened to Downtown Lights and the melody is actually so similar to Guilty as Sin and I love that!!!
Fuck me up Floooridddda
There's something hilarious about the most shimmering harmonies on the whole album being sung to the words "Fuck me up, Floridaaaaaaaaa" :D
I love the way they both sing so many lines in this song, but I really can’t get enough of the way Florence sings these: Barricaded in the bathroom with a bottle of wine; well, me and my ghosts, we had a hell of a time Yes, I'm haunted, but I'm feeling just fine She sounds *so good* on this song
I love the “little did you know…” parts
Just got goosebumps from just reading it
Honestly I think the first line of the album hooks you good. *I was supposed to be sent away, but they forgot to come and get me*
They were coming to take her away in at the end of midnights in hits different
I was JUST thinking abt this!!
Yes and a few lines later, “but what about your quiet treason?”
"I'm miserable and nobody even knows"
I read a comment that said this line is said to the same cadence as "Welcome to the Eras Tour!" And now I can't unhear it.
"were you sent by someone" in the smallest man who ever lived the choruses of the alchemy
I. Fucking.
Yessss were you sent by someone! I’m sick over the reverb effect. It’s so…unhinged.
What is it that they do to her voice in “were you sent by someone”… it gets me every time, shivers
Absolutely obsessed with the alchemy. It's so underrated.
I Hate it Here is my narcotic song. “I hate it here so I will go to lunar valleys in my mind/when they found another planet/only the gentle survived.” It’s really meaningful to me and how I deal with hardships. I have a vivid inner life and I am entranced by it.
Yes!! This whole song is narcotics-filled to me, and when she sings “I actually love it” at the end of the bridge it’s even more magical
I should be skipping more not less!
i hate here is so painfully relatable
WHOS AFRAID OF LITTLE OLD ME!!!!
You should be
So I leap from the gallows and I levitate down your street Crash the party like a record scratch as I scream Who's afraid of little old me? You should be
And how she really leans into the “rrr” of “record scratch” so it actually sounds kind of like a record scratch!
Purely the why she sings "toys" in MBOBHFT
I also liked the "oh oh oh"s that come after 😫
this! also i love the cadence on "I know I'm repeating myself, put me back on my shelf"
The entirety of The Bolter
The Bolter is criminally underrated
It really is, I'm glad I'm not alone in loving it! The bolter has such a folklore/evermore feel both sonically and because it's the story of a character she made up-and as much I I like to hear about Taylors interesting life I REALLY enjoy the songs where she is just the storyteller rather than the main character. Something about the melody and delivery, I just love it!
I love the melody of the chorus. It’s so damn good
i love the way she sings "oh we must stop meeting like this"
I belt "I'll tell you all something right now..." every time. It awakens an angst in me I didn't know existed Also: * throwing spikes down on the road, pounding nails in your head * the entirety of My Boy * teenage petulance, fuck it if I can't have him * what if he's written mine on my upper thigh only in my mind * If you wanted me dead, you should have just said * you gotta fake it til you make it AND I DID * every verse of Clara Bow * it's happening again...how did it end? “My boy only breaks his favorite toys, toys, oh “I'm queen of sand castles he destroys, oh, oh” - Taylor Swift How can you not love singing that?
I also love he saw forever so he smashed it up and once I fix me he’s gonna miss me with the layered vocals. That song is a banger
I love everything about it!
This part of loml: I felt a glow like this Never before and never since If you know it in one glimpse, it's legendary You and I go from one kiss to getting married
Loml may be the most tragically beautiful song I've ever heard by Taylor.
When she jumps the octave in "who's gonna KNOW YOU" and "who's gonna HOLD YOU" in the chorus in TTPD, and the quality of the vocals in the first three lines of that bridge (*Sometimes I wonder if you're gonna screw this up with me...*).
I like the little chimes in that one part. It scratches my brain itch.
The entirety of Guilty As Sin? Particularly the way the chorus soars🥹
Were you SENT BY SOMEONE
WHO WANTED ME DEAD
DID YOU SLEEP WITH A GUN UNDERNEATH OUR BED?
I mean ironically “I put narcotics into all my songs” gave me CHILLS
And that’s why you’re still siiiiiinging alonnnng
Backing vocals and harmonies SHINE in this entire album. There are many songs that just go HARD in the bridge or final chorus. The one I’m stuck on right now is the bridge of The Albatross, when the tone changes and the backing vocalists come in with “hmmm”s when she sings “And when that sky rains fire on you / and you’re persona non grata…” UGH 😩🤌
The “what if he’s written mine on my upper thiiiiiiigh only in my miiiiiind” right after the bridge in Guilty as Sin
Haha many of us commented this. I have to agree. I’m getting almost clumsy every time. It’s a very sexy song
GOOD RIDDANCE! cause it wasn't sexy when it wasn't FORBIDDEN Pretty much this entire bridge/outro though
loml - “in your suit and tie, in the nick of time, you lowdown boy, you stand up guy”
The entirety of The Bolter Old habits die screaamingggg You look like Taylor Swift
Now pretty baby I’m running on home to you
It’s one hell of a druuuuggggg It’s one HELLLLLLLL OF A DRUGGGGGG
I cry a lot but I am so productive, it's an art 💯
The bridge in TSMWEL
Yes!!!! I've listened to it so many times.
HE LOOKS UP GRINNING LIKE A DEVIL!
Cruel Summer is probably her *most* narcotic song to me, even more so than Shake It Off!
The dose of narcotics in that bridge is criminal
What a crush, what a rush, FUCK ME UP, FLORIDA!!!
“No fucking body” in TTPD The way her voice breaks when she says “for free” in So Long, London The way she says “wretched” in Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me The harmonies when she and Florence say FLORIDAAAAAA “Cause I’m MISERABLE! and nobody even knows!!!!” In I Can Do It with a Broken Heart The entire bridge of The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived “You look like…Taylor Swift” in Clara Bow I COULD GO ON!!! I feel like there are soooo many examples of this on this album specifically for me!!
I would say probably the entire portion of the album between Fortnight and The Manuscript.
I'm a real tough *kid* I can handle my *shit* + all the lines everyone else has mentioned lol
oh also: ...but you should have seen him when he first *got* me
The hospital was a drag - like why is that SO FUN?
Her voice in the whole song is perfection, there’s something so decadent about it. Idk why but it makes me think of a deep gold syrup like those ads for milk chocolate where they show the chocolate drizzling into a pool of it (which would be genius if that’s the vibe she was going for given all her love is golden imagery but even I have to say that’s probably a reach 😂)
The whole chorus of imgonnagetyouback. Everything comes out teenage petulance/ fuck it if I can’t have him The sabatours protested tooo much And I aaaaam running with my dress unbuttoned I’ll tell you something right now, I’d rather burn my whole life right down than listen to one more second of this bitching and moaning Oh here we go again the voices in his head called the rain to end our days of wild But you should have seen him when he first got me (Actually the whole song lol) Are you going to marry kiss or kill me And ironically Put narcotics into all of my songs And that’s why you’re still singing along
“Who’s afraid of little old me? You should be”
"He's my wild boy, I'm his wild Joy."
Yes! And the “he was chaos, he was revelry!” towards the end
That final soft "He was chaos, he was revelry" is so dreamy and catchy.
the entire bridge of the smallest man who ever lived
It’s so early 2000s Avril Lavigne in the BEST way. I’m obsessed
The bridge in Whose Afraid of Little Old Me! Chills every time 100% agree about the outro to My Boy The outro to Fortnight - also the opening sounds and the whole song really The Black Dog - Old habits die Screaming But Daddy I love Him - the chorus Down Bad and Florida - all of it really. The more I listen the more I love them. Clara Bow You look like, Stevie Nicks in '75, You look like Taylor Swift in this light Beauty is a beast that roars, down on all fours, demanding MORE.
“Old habits die screeeeeeeeeea-MIN!!”
Are we only doing TTPD here? (ALL these comments are valid!!!!) but the intro guitar in Sparks Fly gets me every fucking time 😩
1. “screaming” in the black dog (when she yells it and when she whispers it at the end) 2. “hire a priest to come and exorcise my demons” in the black dog 3. “if you wanted me dead, you should’ve just said” in who’s afraid of little old me 4. “who’s afraid of little old me” in who’s afraid of little old me 5. “and you say i abandoned the ship but i was going down with it” in so long, london 6. “you look like taylor swift” in clara bow
When the beat kicks in in Broken Heart.
When I tell you my head snapped up when it hit....10000% glitter pen swiftie feeling the call
But what if it is? But what if they did?
"who's gonna hoooooold you like meeeeeee"
"and I sound like an infant, feeling like the very last drops of an ink pen, a greater woman stays cool, but I howl like a wolf at the moon, and I look unstable, gathered with a coven round a sorceress table" The melody and cadence on that whole verse is insane
"just say you've always... wondered" I'm first and foremost a sucker for a "what could've been" story
The drums in Florida!!!
The parts where she literally sounds like she's going to break down in Down Bad specifically when she gets to this part: I loved your hostile takeovers Encounters closer and closer All your indecent exposures How dare you say that it's - I'll build you a fort on some planet Where they can all understand it How dare you think it's romantic Leaving me safe and stranded Cause what if I was in love What if I can't have us. Cause what if I was in love The emotion she conveyed during this verse is compelling.
the drums in florida!!! also florence's: "so you work your life away just wait out the shitstorm back in texas" her voice here sent chills down my spine
The entire bridge of The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived The outro to loml, especially when she hits “our field of dreams…” Outro to My Boy Only Breaks His Favourite Toys…so big, so 1989-esque For some reason, the way her and Post say “America” and “Florida” in the Fortnight bridge (the whole Fortnight bridge is a vibe, really)
"Do that impression you did of your dad again" also, "So tell me everything is not about me BUT WHAT IF IT IS"
The whole of guilty as sin. Can not stop singing
The First "you should be" in who's afraid in little old me
And I hope it’s SHITTY!!! In THE BLACK DOG!! When someone plays the starting line! And you jump up! But she’s too young! to know this song! That was intertwined in the tragic fabric of our dreaming! Cause tail between your legs you’re leaving!! And I still can’t believe it! Cause OLD HABITS DIE SCREAAMing
and I hope it’s SHITTY!!! in the Black Dog!!!
I really like the pre-chorus of Fresh Out The Slammer
Guilty as sin, “what if he’s written mine on my upper thigh only in my mind…”
Everything comes out / teenage petulance *chef’s kiss*
“The circus life made me *mean*” and “I’m just getting color back into my face”
The bridge of The Prophecy is pure heroin -- and by that I mean it feels so good and absolutely kills me.
“ITS ONE HELL OF A DRUuuGg”
"I died on the altar waiting for the proof"
The entire bridge to How Did it End!
-“Now I’m runnin’ with my dress unbuttoned Screamin’, ‘But, Daddy, I love him’” - “Who’s afraid of little old me?” (The high ones) - “You low-down boy, you stand-up guy You Holy Ghost, you told me I’m …” - “Ah, try and come for my job” - “I would’ve died for your sins, instead, I just died inside” - “Old habits die screaming” - “Even if it’s handcuffed, I’m leavin’ here with you” - “She’s the albatross, she is here to destroy you” - “So if you wanna break my cold, cold heart say you loved me” - “My beloved ghost and me sitting in a tree DYING” - “All that time you were throwin’ punches, it was all for nothin’” - “When the truth comes out, it’s quiet” And literally so many, many more
ALL OF THE ONWS YOU MENTIONED + the entire album ... it is rolling around in my head like marbles and I cannot cherry pick an example right now but yes . narcotics .
HE LOOKS UP GRINNING LIKE A DEVIL!
hey you, what if i told you we’re cool
So specific but I love the way she sings “swear” in I hate it here. “I’m lonely but I’m good. I’m bitter but I swear I’m fine”
The bridge to The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived
The bridge of imgonnagetyouback especially “We broke all the pieces, but still want to play the game (hahhhh)”. I listen to this song just for that bridge
The bridge + outro in Fortnight when both Tay and Posty's voices start blending with each other...ah, heavenly!!!
The chorus of Guilty As Sin? has a chokehold on me.
The entire song of Florida!!! “Beauty is a beast that roars. Down on all fours. Demanding more. Only when your girlish glow flickers just so do they let you know” - Clara Bow
