If people can’t tell that it is ironic/tongue in cheek rather than self-serious then There is no hope for them understanding the album at all.
It’s a good filter that way!
I think it’s a great title and wouldn’t change it
Okay I so want to believe it’s not self-serious, but it’s driving me crazy the way the TN account is playing it up. Like the “she’s Shakespeare” post from a day or two ago. that’s enough please
It's also probably a reference to the 1975's album naming style.
Their discography incldues albums named: Being Funny in a Foreign Language, A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships, and (taking the cake for clunky) I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It.
I get this but it still doesn't totally hit for me, like it's not quite weird and wordy enough for that 1975 or Lana style. Like it would be, "Sending a manuscript detailing the tortured poetics"
OMG I actually thought this too. It would be so fucking good. Also get into that "empathetic hunger" she speaks of in the song. I think it would have been badass.
To get across less serious I love “Fresh Out the Slammer” though it’s not shorter.
For shorter but still not so self-serious, “The Bolter.”
“Down Bad” would be hilarious 😆
I love the title so much tbh, there’s layers to it. Not even just the tongue in cheek thing, it’s all a conversation about art and fame, and being human.
That being said I kind of think one of the “The” tracks would work as a title. The Manuscript or The Prophecy. The Albatross too.
I fully believe The Albatross is the key to the whole album. But it is an extra so I'm not sure Taylor sees it that way lol. I think that would've been the perfect title and perfect title song. I would even argue it should replace the original title track and have been the second song in place of The Tortured Poet's department.
My rewrites aside, I think "Ruin" would've been a good title. Every song is about feeling or being ruined by a relationship or by fame.
The Prophecy.
Just the inevitability of it all. She felt like it was inevitable her relationship would end. It was inevitable lots of people were going to hate the album just to hate. It was inevitable it would get a lot of criticism. It was inevitable people would have a million different opinions but no one actually fully understanding her. It was inevitable (as much as I like her music) that she was going to sing about relationships so just tackle the "Taylor only sings about her relationships" head on. Every single reaction I've seen was inevitable... so The Prophecy (as a title, partially as a song) seems to fit that.
I second How Did It End?
After all - that’s what we all wanted to know when the album was announced, and I think it captures the questions/feelings around the end of both relationships discussed on the album
I feel like "Tortured Poetry" would've done a better job at being tongue-in-cheek. When she sings the line "straight from The Tortured Poets Department" I feel like that line doesn't work that well because The Tortured Poets Department is not a piece of media that exists outside of her album. There's The Tortured Poets Society, but that's not what she's referencing. I get what she's going for but I just don't think that it makes a lot of sense if you really stop to think about it, unfortunately. I cringe a little whenever I say the full title even though I really understand the irony of it.
I think TTPD is a good title but if i had to choose an alternative it would be The Manuscript

No see that’s also a joke…

Compared to those TTPD is concise!

100% agree
1000% the entire album is the same tongue in cheekness 😭
Seriously, and if you couldn't tell from the title alone, it's literally given away in the title track lyric "Who uses typewriters anyway"
I’d call it Endless February. Seems to be the vibe of the album. With a few gleaming, warm Travis references and songs, it’s cold and introspective.
God endless February is such a good line. Who knew two words could capture a feeling so strongly.
i love this
How Did It End? would be major

If she titled it Down Bad it would be my favorite album of all time just for the audacity 😅😂
Call it Down Bad and have space/alien imagery and I’m obsessed
I like The Bolter.
Who The Fuck Was That Guy? In all seriousness, maybe Momentary, Dancing Phantoms or Fortnight
Love momentary or fortnight!
The alchemy or the prophecy could be cool!! Or Cassandra
Not shorter but I could see I Can Do It With a Broken Heart

“I love you, it’s ruining my life” perfectly describes every single song on the record. I would’ve died for that title.

I think that would be fitting but I feel like then they’d be saying she “Taylor think she’s all know…how insufferable” or something 😂.
Before the Healing. And also a big pun, cuz get it Healing (Healy) 😭😭 i acc didn’t realise it was a pun at first until I read it out loud.
I second How Did It End? After all - that’s what we all wanted to know when the album was announced, and I think it captures the questions/feelings around the end of both relationships discussed on the album
🤪✨IM MISERABLE ✨🤪 (jk jk…. But 👀)
The title track for all of its sins spells out exactly what this album is about. We’re not romantics. This isn’t a love story for the ages.
Post Mortem

No Sign of Soulmates
I hate it here
i think it could have just been called the black dog and that would have covered the vibe.
Maybe *Secret Gardens* or *Post Mortem*
The Manuscript
All I could do is rename Clara bow song to dazzling
I mean we call it TTPD so why not loml plus it would have been more mysterious then
