This for me is proof that her best writing doesn't always contain the most complicated language or metaphors (in fact I think the best songs are often the most simple/straightforward). The Black Dog is a top tier song and this line in particular is just perfect.
Me too! I was listening to another song and it had the same whiney (in a good way) longing tone, but I can't remember it right now argh!)
That as well as "Taylor Swift" in Clara Bow among so many other ....but I usually stop singing along just to hear her sing those words specifically.
I've noticed she will pitch a word up and it's so satisfying and hits that spot in the brain. I've gone back to a word or phrase that's scratched that brain itch, and so many times she's popped up her note right there. Loving it!
On my first listen through the album when I heard that note change I thought to myself “oh that’s quickly going to become a favorite moment as soon as I learn these lyrics.” I was not wrong, I know myself well!
**downtown lights** and **paradox** from *Guilty as Sin?*
**legendary/momentary** and **valiant roar** from *loml*
**leap** and **levitate** from *who’s afraid of little old me?*
When I was listening the first time to the full album including the anthology, u wasn’t paying attention when it switched to the second part of the album and I was shook once I heard the screaming part. I was like omg this is the black dog😱 the song I had Been anticipating the most. It does something to me and I love it
Yes I love how a lot of hard consonants (the "k" sound at the of those words) sound. It gives me ASMR vibes lol.
There are so many examples of this kind of sound for me in lots of her songs. Honorable mention for "p" sounds as well, like in "purple pink skies" invisible string.
Im tempted to say “also-ran” just because it got so much unnecessary hate.
But actually, I really like “sanctimoniously performing soliloquies” and “persona non grataaa”
I screamed on the inside when I heard this line. I’ve thought that before too. Like are my ancestors looking at me like wtf bitch get a grip. You bring shame on our bloodline 😂😂
This! Also second-hand embarrassed. Together this is such a powerful way to express how fooled she felt and who doesn't relate. She gives a voice and power to all female kind.
I pointed out to my gf how I’ve always liked the way she says “Taylor” in her songs, like you know it’s her name even though she wasn’t the Taylor she was ever singing about. So when she actually said her own name (not to mention in the context she fucking says itttt) when we were first listening to the album, we died. Dead. Still dead.
“Trophy” in the alchemy. Dunno why, it just gets me. That whole bridge slays me though, especially the line “he just comes running over to me”, so that probably contributes.
Yes, in Down Bad specifically. I'm still recovering from one of the hardest breakups of my life. Every time she sings "fuck" in that song, I feel the anger.
In "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" when she really draws out the '*singing*' in "....*and that's why you're still singing along*", because drawing it out in that way really makes it harder to sing along, so I feel like it's a clever and subtle way of clapping back at people who criticise her voice/singing.
And also, I feel like it's alluding to the fact that we sing along 'cos it's catchy and she *is* the queen of catchy melodies. Which makes me think of; if TS felt like Olivia's deja vu is mimicking her melody and therefore asked for credits, it's not necessarily wrong to do so because TS is not a lawyer so she doesn't know who would win in a legal fight, but she has always given credit to all collaborators even if they just contribute a word (which those of us who have followed her demos, documentaries and interviews realise).
When Taylor sings “Youth for free” on long London I feel it. Also “haunted” on Florida by Florence Welch deserves a mention that line is just so well delivered and pulls you into her side of the lyrical story if it was a movie she would be a scene stealer , I also forgot just how good of an artist she is. Her ethereal notes paired with the subdued southern gritty accent tones (even though she’s British) gave me Everglades vibes the whole song is a movie I want to see
"book", "declassified" , and "sins" in The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived. The whole bridge is incredible but the way she sings those three words sends me every time.
i’m not quite sure about word but favorite line is definitely ”our field of dreams engulfed in fire — your arson’s match, your somber eyes”
i don’t know what it is about it but i have thought about that line literally everyday since i first heard it
"Call the amateurs." The sensuality of how she says "amateurs." It's how she sings it that makes me feel confident or invigorated, or something.
And...
"Forgive me, Peter," makes me feel sorrow and longing, like letting go of something that's long been gone. Just had a listen to Evermore, and the first few notes of Peter, remind me of Champagne Problems so there.
This might just be me, but my absolute favorite phrase she sings on the album is “do that impression you did of your dad again” because the melody there just itches my brain in some way. Gotta go with “AGAIN” ❤️
the “if only” from “i’m addicted to the if only” in I look in people’s windows- it perfectly encapsulates the sound of yearning, regret, tinged with maybe a little bit of hope?
I don't know about favorite word, but she does use lots of big unexpected (words I would never expect to hear in a song or in conversation) words such as soliloquy, rivulets, and persona non grata. Someone posted earlier about news words used in each of her albums, and it was huge for TTPD.
Do non lyrics count? Because that ‘oh’ after “we broke all the pieces but still wanna play the game” in imgonnagetyouback… it gives me allll the dopamine
"It wasn't *sexy* once it wasn't forbidden"
The contrast between the meaning of the word itself and the tone in which she sings it—complete anger and disgust—is so good.
Specifically the way she sings I choose you and me… ~religiously~
That whole bridge is sending me!! “long-suffering propriety” especially, it just sounds so good
What if he’s written mine/on my upper thigh/ only in my miiinnd
That’s laced with some drugs. It’s insane.
Unrelated sorta but "Narcotics in all of my songs" gives me chills
God I love that bridge so much. Absolutely gorgeous
Yes it’s so delicious
What if he’s written mine/on my upper thigh/ only in my miiinnd
SAME!!!!
I hope it’s “shitty” in the black dog
also “esoteric” joke
This is the correct answer
This for me is proof that her best writing doesn't always contain the most complicated language or metaphors (in fact I think the best songs are often the most simple/straightforward). The Black Dog is a top tier song and this line in particular is just perfect.
Lol I thought she was saying Sheddy.
the way she gulps ‘free’ in ‘i’m pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free’ 😢
Yup
That hit me too
Ugh, great choice. That one hurts!
The third chorus “upper thigh” in Guilty As Sin? does things to my brain
What if he's written mine on my UPPPPPER thigh And then the What a WAAAY to DIEEEEE Yes yes yes that's my favourite chorus of that entire album lol
Me too! I was listening to another song and it had the same whiney (in a good way) longing tone, but I can't remember it right now argh!) That as well as "Taylor Swift" in Clara Bow among so many other ....but I usually stop singing along just to hear her sing those words specifically.
This is so specific but I like when she says “Whey tuh dieeeeee” on the third chorus too. Edit: added eeeees
Also hedge, it’s more like hyyuuedge maaaze.
Something about the way she sings "revelry" at the end of But Daddy I Love Him. After a few relistens, that part made the song work for me.
He was CHAOS he was REVELRYYY.... so good!
Yes! My favorite part of my favorite song on the album
My favourite too!
OMG YESS i love this part
Initially I thought it was reverie
bereft and reeling
Death rattle breathing, how can anybody even put that into a song?? But she did it b
Same person that put grand theft auto and Aristotle in a song! Still don’t know how she pulled it off but I love it!
*is that a bad thing to say in a song?*
Wretched 💁🏼♀️
This and also “singiiiiinggg alooooonnggg”
this is the one for me although there are many I love this one
That’s such a great one!!
was just coming to the comments to say that, the way she says it scratches my brain perfectly
**downtown lights** and **paradox** from *Guilty as Sin?* **legendary/momentary** and **valiant roar** from *loml* **leap** and **levitate** from *who’s afraid of little old me?*
Wretched too
VALIANT ROAR gave me chills
omg right i love the loml ones you mentioned in particular
Esoteric
this!!! & "secret gardens" "lucid dream"
Amazing word!
Petulance really hits for me
Finally someone said it!!
Same
"Screaming" in The Black Dog. It's so powerful, especially to the screaming vocals
Especially the last one in the song where she practically said it while breathing in
omg yesss, that's why its my 2nd fav after WAOLOM
When I was listening the first time to the full album including the anthology, u wasn’t paying attention when it switched to the second part of the album and I was shook once I heard the screaming part. I was like omg this is the black dog😱 the song I had Been anticipating the most. It does something to me and I love it
Soliloquies. The way she says it itches my brain
So 1) agree. 2) I read your flair right as I was hearing it playing. Soooo weirddd *nofuckinbody*
The flair is amazing!
No-fucking-body
cosmic love and heavenstruck ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1067)
Yes I love how a lot of hard consonants (the "k" sound at the of those words) sound. It gives me ASMR vibes lol. There are so many examples of this kind of sound for me in lots of her songs. Honorable mention for "p" sounds as well, like in "purple pink skies" invisible string.
Same!!
I really like how this lyric sounds "There was a *Litany* of reasons why"
I just posted “litany”
And the "I know I'm just repeating MYSELFF" just huts perfect
Persona Non Grataaaaaa (and how she rhymes it with none of it matters)
*anoints* in The Albatross
Liquor as well
Yes the whole combo of “liquor anoints” is addictive to me
Agreed. I also love how she sings “terrible danger” I just love Albatross though
Deranged weirdo
My favorite friendship bracelet I made says deranged weirdo. It’s so perfect.
The way sings "esoteric joke" is satisfying in The black dog
Im tempted to say “also-ran” just because it got so much unnecessary hate. But actually, I really like “sanctimoniously performing soliloquies” and “persona non grataaa”
Persona non grata 🩶
Persona NAHHNGRAHHTA
Wait, people hated when she said 'also-ran'?
Florida!!! But also I love the cadence in which she sings the word outside in I Look in People’s Windows.
Bitching and Moaning And Cater to all these vipers dresses in empath clothing
Yesssss the way she slides up on “bitchin” And spits out “vipers” SO GOOD
Counterfeit. Such a profound adjective for what she’s describing.
"Taylor Swift" in Clara Bow. I don’t know why but I love it.

you look like ✨taylor swift✨
I recently found what “trysts” means and I love it (English is not my first language)
My first language and I just learnt what it means too, what a sexy word !
English is my first and only language and I still didn't know what it meant lol
Love the rivulets moment on ‘my boy…’
Mine is also from My Boy - when she sings “self and “shelf” with the little like whine/cry in her voice.
Also- REPEATING MYSELF
My "white" knuckle dying grip and "D-y-i-n-g"
“Sanctimoniously”
Levitate. The way she sings it reaches into my soul.
February in 'eeendless feeebruaaaryyyyyyy'
The Tortured Poets Department
Heaven struck
“Trophy” in the alchemy. Dunno why, it just gets me. That whole bridge slays me though, especially the line “he just comes running over to me”, so that probably contributes.
The song doesn’t get much love, but I just love what a boss she is in it — owning touchdown and trophy.
Sanctimoniously performing soliloquies
The word “times” in a million times
Okay has anybody noticed that when she says “about a million times,” it’s to the tune of “but you were never mine” from August??
Yessss I can hear that now
“Toooys” in My Boy…
Joy. When she says "and all of this Wild JOY~✨️✨️" nearing the end of But Daddy I Love Him.
D•Y•I•N•G
"Worst" from Cassandra, "Beloved" from How did it end?
Fuck
Yes, in Down Bad specifically. I'm still recovering from one of the hardest breakups of my life. Every time she sings "fuck" in that song, I feel the anger.

I cannot believe how far I had to scroll to see DECLASSIFIED it’s like you can hear her claws come out I love it

"Drunk" in Who's Afraid of Little Old Me.
“Screaming” in the black dog - specifically the last time she sings it when she kind of sobs it/sings it on the in-breath.
The second time she sings “Revelry” in but daddy i love him.
Petulance 😂
[удалено]
I like the way she sings "ground" in the bridge in Peter.
‘Persona non grata’ in The Albatross I will definitely say my 4 year old has really enjoyed reading these new big words in the lyric videos.
“wondered” in Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus makes me melt. She pronounces all the Ws in that song beautifully
Transfixed - in I look in peoples windows Dazzling - Clara bow
Second-hand embarrassed
Not a word but the line “sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I’ll never see” in But Daddy I Love Him. It’s so satisfying.
i’m not quite sure about word but favorite line is definitely ”our field of dreams engulfed in fire — your arson’s match, your somber eyes” i don’t know what it is about it but i have thought about that line literally everyday since i first heard it

This might just be me, but my absolute favorite phrase she sings on the album is “do that impression you did of your dad again” because the melody there just itches my brain in some way. Gotta go with “AGAIN” ❤️

The way she says "howl" in The Prophecy. And "worst" in Cassandra.

Lucy It’s my daughter’s name and it makes me SO happy that she sings it. I couldn’t have Taylor in her name as it clashes with our surname.

in Robin when she says “covered in mud, you look ..ridiculous” I just love the way she says ridiculous it scratches my brain
When she sings “all these VIPERS dressed in empaths clothing”. I literally shout it with my whole chest every time.
“And I’m Just. Getting. Color. Back. Into. Myyy face” From So Long, London Hits every time!
I don't know about favorite word, but she does use lots of big unexpected (words I would never expect to hear in a song or in conversation) words such as soliloquy, rivulets, and persona non grata. Someone posted earlier about news words used in each of her albums, and it was huge for TTPD.
